unfortunately, Shirin Ebadi has tried to redefine Islam!
by Fatollah on Sat May 22, 2010 04:28 AM PDTnever agreed with her point of views! There is no room for religion in politics. no such thing as religious democracy, here I agree 110% with VPK!

Puppet
by Ferfereh on Sat May 22, 2010 02:02 AM PDTShirin Ebadi knows better than you and me that most iranians want secularism for Iran, but when you're just a puppet of European Union you do what they want. They want to remind the world again and again that iranians shouldn't have a secular regime, why ? because a secular, democratic regime will not let them plunder our land, will make a proud people that don't need to be refugees, with 70% under 30, will have progress in economy, technology, .... in short time. I wish we had more patriots than doctors and professors who sell themselves for a dime.
It is sad and funny
by David ET on Sat May 22, 2010 01:14 AM PDTThat the most respected RELIGIOUS LEADER promotes secularism while Shirin Ebadi a lawyer who is supposed to be secular , sitting next to him twists his word still is trying to promote a religious democracy !
Amazing thought from the holiness: "majority of people are not

it's funny
by Q on Fri May 21, 2010 09:49 PM PDThow we can't even agree on the Nobel Peace Prize winner Shirin Ebadi as a good representative of Iranian aspirations.
I think this proves her point perfecty.
Ebadi
by Veiled Prophet of Khorasan on Fri May 21, 2010 07:35 PM PDToversteps her position when she claims to know what the Iranian exiles want. She is one person and entitled to her opinion. "We" are 4 - 6 million people not one person to want a single thing. However most Iranians I know including me want a Secular Democracy. Ms. Ebadi should stick to facts and not try to speak for people whom she does not represent. I really hope the Nobel prize is not going to her head. It would be a real shame.

Ebadi's pluses
by David ET on Fri May 21, 2010 07:52 PM PDTI did like Ebadis reference to 4 million Iranians outside Iran as "refugees" (from own government) . Referring to us as refugees has a strong political meaning and something that many of us deny but is true!
I also liked that she did say that the 4 million are agianst Islamic republic I did diagree that she said we don't know what we want. I think majority want same things : freedom, human rights , equality..etvc
What we do not agree about is how to get there but we do know what we want and that is why most of us are here...
and great ending comment by her about role of women in creating bully son's !
There is no
by Veiled Prophet of Khorasan on Fri May 21, 2010 07:13 PM PDTreligious democracy. It is impossible because religion is undemocratic. Religion specially monotheistic is by its nature intolerant. Therefore anyone who is calling for a religious democracy is fooling themselves.
How long are we going to act like idiots? How can anyone with a brain not see the obvious contradiction in religion and democracy. Why do people pay lib service to this garbage?
Wake up people. For thousands of years humans have dwelt in religious ignorance. It is time to pull our heads out and think for ourselves.

Ebadi still pushing for religious democracy !
by David ET on Fri May 21, 2010 07:00 PM PDTDali Lama defended secularism and said majority of people of earth are seculars and Dr. Ebadi switched it to promotion of religious democratic government!!!
She told Dali Lama: "I hope other religious leaders learn from you."
I'd say : I hope Ms. Ebadi learns from His holliness Dali Lama.
