Sorry to have upset you Sepah Salar!

by Farah Rusta on

Are you by any chance a reincarnation of Mirza Hossein Khan? Funnily you say exactly the same thing that I wrote at the end of my comment: make up your own mind and do not be influenced by Milani's mind. The only difference is that you "think" that you are more educated than others and see it as your duty to educate them. Well, I would like to see how you suggest I should enhance my understanding of Mr Milani. But please don't ask me to go to Darul'funun as it is a boys only school!

Re: On Milani's biography of the Shah

by Sepah Salar on

You are absolutely incorrect Ms. Rusta.  If you have read his books and listened to his lectures long enough, you will know that he is very clear on his stand and his research.  He is one who spent time in prison during Shah's reign.  He is an educated individual that advances in his thoughs as he researches and learns more.  He is not an stagnant individual who gets stuck in old thoughts.  He progresses as he learns - and his material are based on fact and extensive research.  He speaks the same tone in either language as we have followed his discussions in every program for several years and have read all his books.  He has repeatedly indicated on certain weaknesses of Shah's performance or behavior in our mother language and at the same time has been regretful for not knowing of Shah's great love and vision for Iran .

So please don't be another Iranian 'nagger' that is nAshokr for EVERYTHING, even for certain rare hamvatans that dedicate so much of their time and energy to leave behind unbiased facts for the future generation.  So don't instruct a community on a public website to 'not rely on Milani for analysis'; instead educate yourself more and let people make their own decisions.

Cowardly stooges

by Fair on

is depicted in the following:

//www.youtube.cf/watch?v=EwiK34-sgIk&feature=...

These are gang members of Colonel Sanders motorcycle gang.  The only time they are "brave" is when they are faced with unarmed civilians that are outnumbered, and they have guns, knives, clubs, and licence to kill. And even then they are so stupid and incompetent that they run each other off the road:)

How such pathetic losers (including the stateless chicken Colonel himself) can look at themselves in the mirror is mind boggling.  But then one cannot expect more from stateless terrorists who are terrified of the Iranian people.  So terrified that they will imprison without trial or charge a high school student just for writing his opinion:

The Shah a "larger than life

by Sargord Pirouz on

The Shah a "larger than life character"! That cowardly stooge?

He ran away from the country TWICE! He was installed by a CIA coup. When the going got rough, what did he do? He threw some of his high ranking supporters in prison in a desperate attempt at appeasing the masses that had had enough of this stooge. His own supporters!

What type of person continues to worship such a joke of a stooge? It's really incredible. Well, I guess there's a handful of idiots that might still worship Pétain and Quisling. You one of them, too, Darius?

Darius Kadivar

I tend to agree with Farah on this

by Darius Kadivar on

But still have to wait to read his book before judging it one way or another.

My Problem is that Milani similar to many western scholars who also wrote on the last Shah adopts a Republican approach to his assessments of our Royal History particularly in regard to the Constitutional Movement and that is where I tend to disagree with him.

A definitive book on the Shah cannot be written by one and only historian available who happens to be a brilliant researcher as is the case for Dr. Milani whom I admire.

There are many angles to a larger than life character like the Shah and his dynasty that ruled Iran for half a century.

I think Milani's book will be an interesting and maybe groundbreaking attempt to a fair and honest assessment of the Shah's reign and personality but I think that no one can claim to a definitive biography of any historical figure given that there are and always will be different interpretations depending on which generation we belong to and the lessons we think we have learned from history.

I tend to favor a Constitutionalist reading of our contemporary history and struggle for democracy.

Milani to his own admission remains a Republican aka Jomhurykhah. That stance will certainly influence his  conclusions on the man and the Royal institution he embodied. Both as a historian and a citizen that is definitively his right, and a respectable choice if one wishes to remain coherent with one's political or philosophical inclinations. I simply don't share that perspective.

Looking forward to reading his book nevertheless.

On Milani's biography of the Shah

by Farah Rusta on

Gentlemen

Don't want to spoil your expectations of Milan's book before it is out but I must give you a little "health warning"!

Milani writes and speak differently to different audiences. Listen to his weekly chats with Hossein Mohri on Radio Sedaye Iran when he is addressing an Iranian community. He speaks like he considers the Shah a heroic figure in his stand against the foreign powers. Then listne to him when he is addressing an English speaking audience in a TV interview or in a public speech. The same heroic Shah becomes a flawed and frightened character when Milani is trying to appease his foreign audiences.

I suggest you examine the documents which are carefully investigated by Milani (and he has done a very good job of it) but do not rely on Milani for analysis.

Make your own judgement.

Re: What a Pity!

Mo Worcester,

Many did what you did - not knowing of what was coming next.  Now you know and that's all that matters.

Abbas Milani has repeatedly emphasized what he has realized about the Shah once he dug deep into his vision for Iran.  A few years back I was at a Persian restaurant in upper East Side in Manhattan and Milani was sitting right behind us.  It sounded like he was interviewing a couple that was close to the Shah for his book.  We asked him that we've been anxious about this book for so long - but the more he gathered information, the more stuff came up and needed further digging.  I think its all done now and should be out soon.  Can't wait.

Cheers to Milani and to all those that searched for truth.

What a pity!

by Worcester Mo on

I remember like it was yesterday when I was dancing in the street near Dorahi'eh Yusufabad when the Shah left.  I was so happy.  What idiots!  Soon he will be remembered as he should- in my opinion- a patriot who really cared for Iran with many accomplishments who also had some faulty shortsighted policies.  Can't wait for Dr. Milani's biography.

May his Soul Rest in Peace

by Sepah Salar on

I am so proud to have been born in the 1960's and lived in Iran under the leadership and rule of Mohammad Reza Pahlavi.  I could not picture myself anywhere else.  We had a beautiful, fulfilling life (I am unlike the vast majority of unthankful Iranians, that no matter what they have, they are always complaining of something- the 'nAshokr' group.)

I feel sorry for the children of the Islamic Revolution that have only experienced life under these idiot, pitiful, and low-class rulers.

Long live those memories, and God bless his soul for his vision.  He did the best he could; and I am thankful for that.  He will always have a big place in my Heart.

Every time I am reminded of all these brave men who wereexecuted by IRGC after the war. Even after all the help IIFA did to put this bloodthirsty Islamic governmentin power they just couldn’t stop them self from killing and they are still doingit but now on the streets of our cities. Islam needs blood to stay alive.

Thanks for the posting

When the Iran/Iraq war started a lot of these guys (link) were taken out of IR prisons and put back into jet fighters to fight for Iran against its enemy Iraq. its 15 pages, so click on "next"  top right on the page to see it all.

//www.iiaf.net/archive/personnel/index.html The site is setup by an ex-fighter pilot, its got a bit of Shahi theme but not too much to put anyone off. Its mainly about pre and some post IRI Iranian Air force.

The main web page is //www.iiaf.net/home.html  This site has a lot of interesting information, stories and pictures which is great, I am not a Shahi person myself but I respect anyone who would defends Iran against Iran's enemies.
