Two years ago today, on 16 Azar Students Day, December 7, Majid Tavakoli was arrested after addressing an anti-dictatorship crowd at Amir Kabir University of Technology in Tehran. He has been sentenced to eight and a half years in prison for making this speech in which he criticized Khamenei for the crackdown of peaceful protests:

Low security prison
by Bahram G on Wed Dec 07, 2011 04:53 PM PSTIran today is a "low security prison." some who are incarcerated somehow manage to leave it and settle somewhere in the world away from friends, family and the country they deeply love and badly miss. Those inmates of this prison who do not toe the line drawn by the jail keep mullahs are sequestered in seurity cells and occasionally may end up dead by "illness" or "accidentally."
Tavakoli is one of those magnificent inmates who had the courage of speaking against the jailers and their dastardly rules. That's his crime. The real criminals are those RISH-o-PASHM who have made our country one huge prison.
Long live Tavakoli and all those brave upstanding children of Iran who are aiming to restore our country to a place of honor and freedom.
ooops, evidently more to hit the fan:

Oh, dear, there really is a massive braindrain.
THE MAN WHO LOVES HIS COUNTRY
by afshinazad on Wed Dec 07, 2011 02:18 PM PSTThe man who loves his country and his people, the man who is doing nothing but reminding others what is going and what is happening to their land. If this man is guilty? He is guilty being in love with his country and his people. Brave man and women of Iran are in prison because they care and worry about our nation and the country, it is not that he wants’ to be president or the king, he cannot accept the death of nation and land before his own eyes.
long live proud and brave young Iranian who care about national interest and his peoples freedom , and he has sacrificed his own well being for the nation and the beloved Iran.

Be well you brave son of Iran
by Shifteh Ansari on Wed Dec 07, 2011 12:28 PM PSTMajid Tavakoli is one of a group of the brightest Iranians currently in prison. Ironically, the very fact that Majid Tvakoli is in an Islamic Republic prison means that the Islamic Republic will end. When a nation's bravest and brightest people must be chained or else their minds and tongues and pens would endanger the nation's rulers, one knows that those rulers have lost all sensibility and legitimacy.
I hope Majid Tavakoli lives a long and healthy life to see a better day for himself and his children in Iran.

by Jahanshah Javid on Wed Dec 07, 2011 09:43 AM PSTIf such a good, conscientious person is in jail, it reveals a great deal about his captors.
........
by yolanda on Wed Dec 07, 2011 09:43 AM PSTHe is a national hero and epitome of a great Iranian!
We should campaign for his release!
I still remember the "hejab" campaign 2 years ago. The photo blog set IC's record!
It is sad that best and brightest people are in Iranian jail!
Thank you, IC, for choosing Majid as IOD! Great gesture!
Long Live Majid Tavakoli!
