I think she is beautiful, talented, and very funny! All the power to her for a bright future and a successful career. The more Iranians shine and sparkle, the better for us all as a community.

She Didn't Copy

I've seen Nadine live, she's been doing stand-up for over 10 years--that Negar joke was one of her first jokes. I'm not saying that Shappi copied her, I'm saying that people can come up with the same idea, or reference if they're from the same culture. It's not out of this realm. Back off her, you're just jealous, and an oppressor. 

Plus, Nadine is on TV all the time. She's on E!, she's on VH1. She's not some new kid off the street. Do your homework, son.

i dont care what she is doing in the skit, she just isnt funny. now you take my words and build a stereotype on it and then refute the supposed illusionary comments. her being lame has nothing to do with someone being sexist by not liking her work.the two just dont correlate. sometimes some of the arguments people make on iranian.com are just rediculous.

She copied Shappi Khorsandi's joke!!!! Mohammad to Jimmy (Tony)

The link that Irooni posted of Shappi in Apolo, mentioned about iranians shortening their names - Mohammad became Jimmy etc. Now, this lady copied the same thing saying Mohammad became Tony!!! or Shappi was called by her mom, and now she is being called Nagar by her mom!  What a cheater! She is Iranian? Now I really think she knew what she was doing and this is not right!

Not everyone can or wants to live by YOUR moral standards.  This is the problem with bitter insecure Iranians...you have to tell OTHER people how to live there lives.  Like I said, neither, nor this comedian gives a flying frick about what you consider `positive`. 

I thought her material was funny, original, and witty.  You didn`t.  nobody cares!

As for the marg bar amirika, I was making the point that while others can laugh at themselves and others, angry, bitter, insecure Iranians just go around hating everything and everyone they don`t like.

As Parthian said, even if we want to make fun of something, we have to make sure that it's positive and cool. Maz Jobrani and Khorsandi do the same but in a good way.

Just quit while you're ahead. None of your arguments have merit, you're a contradiction. You say you're leaving America, then say you're staying...you say Americans don't make fun of Americans, while Big Boy pointed out Jeff Foxworthy. You're just arguing to argue. Give this blog a rest, and get a life.

I'm a proud Iranian, and I make fun of myself all the time. We have to in order to stay sane. Without humor, whar do we have.

And if you hate America so much, go back to oppression--seems like that's where you belong and like to be.  

who makes fun of Americans?

 I haven't seen any American making fun of America or Americans, they make fun of white people, the south, or one specific city or state, sure, but not America as a whole. I have barely seen any American comedian even bringing up the name of America when making a negative stereotype, even thought there are thousands upon thousands of them. They always point to the ethnic or racial group, not the nationality. Plus, even if they did it, does it mean we should? Look at the state that America's in right now, this society isn't exactly a role model for other societies. Follow your own path, the one that's good for you, cause before you know it, you'll turn up like America or worse, a south American drug infested shathole with hookers everywhere.

 We're living in America, where we can't be racist towards whites, no matter how much we degrade them, cause none likes them, not even they themselves like or stand up for eachother. As for the ghetto and redneck comment, ghetto people can be from any certian race, though most are black followed by latinos, so affiliating them with any specific race makes you the racist, same goes for redneck trailer trash.

Yes, indeed, I along with others like me are the problem and a nightmare for people who wish to see the Iranian people weakend and bending backwards for others, with no respect or honor for theriselves, but not for my own people. For my people, people like me are the solution.

 Btw, I'm not going to leave america, I'm gonna stay here as long as I feel like it and use your economy and have sex with your wimmins, and guess what? you can't do anything, cause you're weak!  These people will never get it. They are be-gheirat, be abroo, and they wanna force their highly Americanized liberal bullsh!t on the Iranian community and people in general.  More reasons for the Iranian/Persian people to organize, for the good of the community abroad and start smacking these people until their carrier is ruined, I mean til nothing's left of them, make them kneel and beg for mercy. Just like what many other communities do (Jews, blacks, Pakis in U.K etc..) to people who try to degrade them. This is how America works.

 I think it's time for nationalism that seperates itself from the west and islam to take part in the Iranian/Persian communities, not just here, but everywhere that has a big presence of Iranians.

Real disconnect...

...between "fresh off the boat" (I finally used the phrase) Iranians and pretty much everyone else.  She is a comedian...an entertainer...not your mother, not your representative, not your anything.

Typical Irani trait to pass judgement on other people just becuase you don't like what they do or say or how they choose to live their lives.  Luckily, she doesn't give a rats ass and does her thing.

I think she has a BSc in biology and an MBA.

And the Brazillian vs. Hasidic wax was fricking hillarious and rather original...do you guys get it...full wax job vs. get rid of the middle leave the sides...Hasidic Jew haircut...ah forget it.

Anyway, the real measure of a comedians success is whether peple are laughing, and she had them laughing.  Nobody cares what a bunch of insecure judgemental FOB Iranians on this site say. 

If I ever become a comedian

 I'll make fun of everyone else other than my own, and even when I make stereotypes about my own, I'll make sure that it's positive and cool, like lets say about our fat Persian penises or how rich we are and how everyone should be honored to be our servants cause we're gods chosen people, next to the jews. Don't worry Iranians, I got your back.

What works best

2. Chat room alcoholic (tragicomic character). More development please!

3. Mom pays both rents (family issues/values). Again, a lot of potential for more development.

4. Persian trendiness. Good choice in keeping this common theme short.

What doesn't work:

Crotch grabbing. 

Talented. Strong presence. Good timing (extremely hard to pull off. the comedian has to read the audience response precisely). Needs more thematic consistency, as in take up fewer themes but develop them further. Loved the show! Thanks.

but she has all the potential to ba a good stripper. Her customers are already here in line!

she's probably young enough to be your kid. I know, I know: you were probably  just trying to do a little  " cultural liability and assets review", and  got stuck in the assets!

She's funny, and genuine, sharing stories of her privates , family and college days, that's all.

Of course by conservative,  patriarchal, hypocritical standards of "Iran" (not sure exactly who died and made all these people spokesperson for Iran) she's " over the top" !
