NIAC police?
by MM on Sun Jun 19, 2011 12:10 PM PDTSome folks like kashk will mock NIAC's involvment in the preservation of Persepolis tablets as an Iranian heritage rather than items that are auctioned off on ebay!!!!!! WOW.....
Folks like Kashk need to realize that the Persepolis tablets are the only evidence Iranians have on the daily affairs of the ancient Persia, rather than counting on the Greek philosophers's point of view. In the NY area alone, NIAC raised 110,000 dollars to help with the legal court costs associated with the preservation tablets rather than mocking the efforts by you, sir/madam.
The involvement of NIAC in HR goes back to ca. 2006 when the membership encouraged NIAC for some advocacy in Iranian affairs. Since then, the record of NIAC on HR speaks for itself. The interviews with Maziar Bahari and Shirin Ebadi are just the latest.
I do not mind if folks like RG or Bahmani encourage NIAC to do even more to promote democracy/freedom in Iran, but tell me what you or your organization have done, in comparison? I may even choose to support them too. Below are some more Iran/HR events from NIAC's website from 2007-2010.
--------------
NIAC has taken a stance with regards to the following bills and influenced them with voter awareness followed by electronic writing campaigns that were hand-delivered to the Congressional offices as well as talks with the Capitol staffers/Representatives:
Stand With the Iranian People: support The Stand With the Iranian People Act (H.R.4303), support Iranian Digital Empowerment Act (H.R.4301), oppose Iranian Refined Petroleum Sanctions Act (H.R. 2194), oppose Comprehensive Iran Sanctions, Divestment, and Accountability Act (S.2799), support Reduce Iranian Cyber-Suppression Act (H.R.3284 / S.1475), oppose Accountability for Business Choices in Iran Act (H.R.3922), support Iran Human Rights Sanctions Act (H.R.4647 / S.3022), support Travel Ban (H.CON.RES.256)
Defend Human Rights: support Religious Freedom Resolution (H.RES.33), support Granger Resolution (H.RES.888), support Baha'i Resolution (S.RES.71 / H.Res. 175), support U.S. Hikers Resolution (S.CON.RES.40 / H.Con.Res. 189), support Robert Levinson Resolution (H.Con.Res. 36 / S.CON.RES.4) .
* 2007-2010: Twice a year, NIAC holds a major policy conference on Capitol Hill to examine the most significant and timely issues facing the US and Iran & NIAC and Amnesty International held a joint conference on Capitol Hill titled "Human Rights in Iran and U.S. Policy Options.
* 2007: Even the real rats got envious: Why has Amnesty International invited a stooge of the Iranian regime to a Congressional hearing on Iranian human rights abuses? By a jealous Kenneth Timmerman.
* 2008: Defeated a Congressional resolution that would have paved the way for a US-Iran war.
* 2009: Ensured human rights were on the agenda when the U.S. began talks with Iran. This has, hopefully, led to the recent 2010-2011 boycott of the 8 Iranian officials with the worst human rights record.
* 2009: Helped remove sanctions on vital online communication tools like MSN Messenger, FaceBook, and YouTube to ensure the free flow of information in Iran (Stand with the people of Iran Congressional Act).
* 2010: NIAC Conference Highlights Demand for Human Rights of Iranian People.
* 2010: Congressional Testimony of Trita Parsi on Human Rights in Iran.

I hope your comments was not targeted at me , as I have come an inch or so close to complete "shehadat" on this site, and made myself quite a few "friends" for opening my big mouth criticising NIAC and it's leadership
but seriously, sometimes if the stick does not work, just try the carrot, it just might....

"Maziar's advice to Iranian-Americans: "
by Roozbeh_Gilani on Sun Jun 19, 2011 09:29 AM PDTPerfect, could not agree with him more, and thank you for emphasising his statement.
Every action counts. We owe it to our brothers and sisters, the political prisoners of Islamist regime back home regardless of their political stance. there is no excuse for inaction.

3rd generation tortured: Maziar Bahari Interview with NIAC
by MM on Sun Jun 19, 2011 09:06 AM PDTMaziar Bahari gives a perspective from a third generation family member (father & older sister) who have undergone torture. I wish him luck.

Maziar's advice to Iranian-Americans: Domocracy/freedom is not only about what you can wear or drive. Get politically active. Locally, get to know your representatives and let them know what you want.
Also, those who say that advocacy from outside Iran, including UNHR observer, do not help need to watch this video.
Another trita parsi/rafsanjani kool-aid drinker ...
by Kashk on Sun Jun 19, 2011 04:47 AM PDTAt least this one cares for human rights in iran rather than Perspolis Tablet (trita's favorite cause before he was "reminded" of human rights abuses in Iran).
People of Iran has shown time after time that the green movement is not about mousavi or karoubi, both under house arrest and no one "kakesh gazide", sapre me the religious bull please and don't mix it with Iran politics (VOA/BBC's favorite cause)!
in each episode all I hear
by alx1711 on Sat Jun 18, 2011 09:55 PM PDTin each episode all I hear is, Enforcement of tazie religion of Islam.
This is FORCE & RAPING of Iran to be Islamist: what people must wear, to drink, to think, to eat, to watch, to hear, to admire, to ponder about...(list goes on). This shows how dirty ISLAM has invaded Iran yet it also shows how they strugle to enforce it upon true Iranians.
Islam & Islamists in Iran is/are Parasites Raping Iran.

by choghok on Sat Jun 18, 2011 02:30 AM PDTThe problem is that what he wants is not the same as you. He prefers evolution instead of revolution. And to tell you something, after being in Iran myself recently, revolution is not what most people there want. Yes there are some young people who are fed up with the system and want a bloody end of IRI, bu even they do not talk about revolution.
Saying that, I do not think that the current system is easily reformable, so even the reforms has to come with force.

Why are the shia so quiet on crimes against humanity?
by amirparvizforsecularmonarchy on Fri Jun 17, 2011 03:18 PM PDTWhy do the shia ayatollah freely condemn patriotism, love of iranians??
Have we all lived away from Iran too long and forgotten to respect our great Shia thinkers and leaders... or are we just able to express our disgust of the Islamic Religion in Iran???
This weeks show was good, even if it reminded us we are dealing with Ruthless Cowards, who kill old men and women, children and don't have any sense of painful remorse for what they are doing to hold on to power at the peoples expense.

تبصره مازیار بهاری
FredFri Jun 17, 2011 02:26 PM PDT
