I would even Argue that Israel will be NIAC's trump card on this
by Darius Kadivar on Mon Mar 14, 2011 04:25 AM PDTWith the Nuclear disaster in Japan and The West's incompetence in dealing with Gaddafi, I'm afraid Israel may well act alone and strike Iran at some point in a near future.
This will precipitate Iran into Ahmadinejad's camp and a Military Take over.
And that is precisely what they have been hoping for.
All the anti war rhetoric was mere Foreplay only to buy time for the IRI to plan it's survival on the long term.
Brilliant Trita Parsi ... THANK YOU !
Unwillingly or Willingly YOU have become the instrument of the IRI hence dooming the chances of a democratic transition in Iran for at least 50 years or more.
As a matter of fact a Military Coup is the trap we must avoid
by Darius Kadivar on Mon Mar 14, 2011 04:09 AM PDTHere is Why:
PAN IRANIST: Pezeshkpour objects to Shah's decision on Bahrain Independence (1971)
Islamic Republic of Persepolis
It is a Hoax and brilliant bluff to safeguard the Republic and be sure the IRI lobbies will actively try to spread this as the best option for Iran.
Please Read my comments to Fred’s Blog Here
Thank Farhang Mansour, Jon Limbert and all the other NIAC Folks for that : These bastards have patiently been preparing the ground for this scenario for years, hence even highjacking the debate on Human Rights like here:

I am hoping for a Turkish style military coup d'etat
by بت شکن on Mon Mar 14, 2011 02:33 AM PDTRevoloutions in any form or color are not going to bring the IRI down. We missed that opportunity long time ago. In 1979 the people revolted because they had the physical and financial strength to do it. They have neither of them today.
Turkish dream may also prove to be far-fetched. I can't imagine to have military leaders nationalistic enough to stage such a coup. But hey, dreams are cheap!
A Convenient Lie!
by G. Rahmanian on Sun Mar 13, 2011 05:02 PM PDTThey all knew who Khomeini was. Now after thirty-two years many shamelessly claim they did not know him well. Why did Ayatollah Taleghaani know when he warned everyone about what was going to happen, but organizations with decades of experience in political activism, did not? This is a very convenient lie. Why didn't the opposition create a united front against Khomeini's camp as soon as they figured out they had been duped? Even after all the initial massacres, some organizations stood, treacherously, by Khomeini. Most of those forces had only one objective and that was, getting rid of the Shah no matter what the consequences. Why is it that most of those people who say they were duped by Khomeini are willing to share what they know with foreign governments or take it to their graves and not share it with Iranians? They always talk about what we already know. Which one of these people said anything new or intelligent on this show?
my mistake veiled prophet
by choghok on Sun Mar 13, 2011 04:33 PM PDTi missed that you wrote high position when talking about people in power in iran today. but still i feel that with a revolution you get people playing a new act. like so many are playing this day. today people are in one way at home and another one outside.
With a revolution that act outside the home would be different. Talking about pinochet, he was backed by british and americans who killed a democratically elected president and free thinkers. He was also the person who ruled over a dictatorship by force of army for a long time, I do not see that as a good example. that would mean that ahmadinejad and revolutionary guards would take the whole power in iran and have a military government in Iran for years.
Regarding Mossadegh
by Veiled Prophet of Khorasan on Sun Mar 13, 2011 03:23 PM PDTBot Shekan thank you for reminding us of his relation with Bazargan. Mossadegh had a very flawed judgement. We see the results of his reckless actions for ourselves. I get sick whenever I see people idolize him.

by Veiled Prophet of Khorasan on Sun Mar 13, 2011 03:20 PM PDTWhy do you convolute my words. I never said try everyone. I said try those in the IR ruling power. Specially the Mollahs. No Mollah should *ever* be allowed to hold power.
There are plenty of capable people who are not in IR power structure. Many are living in exile because they are too honest to remain under IR. The only thing IR gang know is how to rape and rob. That is not what Iran needs.
Regarding Qum; Isfahan and others: Are you telling me everyone in Qom and Isfahan is in the IR ruling power? Wow! There must be a lot of people in IR ruling power. That is big news to me!
Now back to reality. I told you there are many able Iranians both inside and outside. Post revolution Mayors and Governors should be appointed by the central government. This will be a temporary measure until a secular democratic system is put in place. Once that is done elections will be held which choose officials. However no Mollahs and no IR ruling class will be allowed to run. Those gangsters will be in jail where they belong.
Regarding necessity of revolution: others have already said the reasons.
Bot Shekan
by Veiled Prophet of Khorasan on Sun Mar 13, 2011 03:05 PM PDTYou are right. A military coup along the Pinochet is required. I used to hate Pinochet but that is just what Iran needs right now. Someone ruthless who will put the Mollahs back in their place real hard.
Hate to be a cynic but ...
by بت شکن on Sun Mar 13, 2011 02:58 PM PDTthe only remaining solution is a secular-based military coup, followed by an extended military-protected transition to democracy. Loss of lives is sadly unavoidable.
if there ever was
by oktaby on Sun Mar 13, 2011 02:09 PM PDTa need for revolution, this is it.
It is not even just about regime
change anymore. Uprooting ertejaa' is the key to survival of Iran. DK, restore without a revolution???? How exactly?
The interviews are still with islamists and analyst on BBC, while the country is raped repeatedly. Gandhi style pacifism to save Iran is a pipe dream.
Reconciliation is no longer an option. There will be blood and there shall be revenge. Either by Iranians to cleanse, or by external forces to break up Iran.

Revolution is the only solution ...
by Kashk on Sun Mar 13, 2011 12:42 PM PDTSeparation of masjed and state, BTW, just the way khomaini promised (no one in ghom had problem with that), people followed and then he betrayed as soon as he landed his dirty feet in my beloved country . Reform means status quo (akhoond in power and the velayete faghih) and that is not what I'm hearing when people in the streets say "mobarak, ben ali, nobat seyed ali". Only IRI enablers scare you from a secular government in Iran and true democracy.

by ComraidsConcubine on Sun Mar 13, 2011 01:27 PM PDTideologikiye Iranian, is at the root of it all and at the root of that lies poverty. And Mash Ghasem knows that by that, I am not referring to phenomelogical "discourse". hehe! ;)
How About NO TO REVOLUTION BUT YES to RESTORATION !
by Darius Kadivar on Sun Mar 13, 2011 12:07 PM PDTRESTORATION: Shapour Bakhtiar advocates Restoring the Monarchy Anyone has a Better Idea ?
Vieled prophet
by choghok on Sun Mar 13, 2011 11:54 AM PDTWho can run the country if you want to try everyone? A revolution means that people in Iran start to ass kiss anyone going to hold the power and "play along" half heartedly like they have done today. It means that after a revolution it would be difficult to see who is really sharing democratic values.
And what are you going to do in deeply religious areas like in Ghom or Isfahan, are you going to disallow anyone of that city to hold office? What kind of democracy is that if it is going to be on your terms?
That is why revoltion is no good solution. You can see the result of all the revolutions in the world and take note that the result has almost never been good. What we need is evolution and that is possible through putting light on the dark sides of IRI. That is why IRI dislikes the Persian press outside Iran, they cannot be controlled to tell their "truth".

Revolution
by Veiled Prophet of Khorasan on Sun Mar 13, 2011 04:24 AM PDTis really the only option and a complete removal of the system. In fact anyone who held a high post in this regime should be barred from any office. I would not even let them hold a position in Universities.
First of all they should all be tried to their crimes including treason. The ones who make it should be barred from any position no matter what the verdict. I am sure a Western left wing university will immediately give them professorships.
Interview highlights ...
by Kashk on Sun Mar 13, 2011 03:36 AM PDT1- shariatmadari (fast forward to 34:22, I agree 100%): “rafsanjani and khamenei do not want to eliminate each other, just want the weakened version of eachother” IMO: why rafsanjani distanced himself from the green movement after the protestors started chanting “death to khamenei” after June uprising. End to “jomhori eslami” is end of rafsanjani.
2- Milani (fast forward to 36:40, proves his alliance with rafsanjani): “eliminating Rafsanjani is difficult, now, they (ahmadinejad and co) are trying to eliminate the architects of the regime (karoubi, khatami, mousavi, and Rafsanjani) who are not part of the “bande mafia” the same way they tried to eliminate pro democracy members of the regime like Bazargan and Forouhars.” IMO: mr. milani now is grouping “forsat talab” Rafsanjani with the rest of the green movement (now that he is thrown out of his khobregan post) and bunch him with karoubi, mousavi as well as even bazargan and frouhar. He fails to say that Rafsanjani was behind the “revolutions eat their children” up to now. It was during his reign when bazargan was eliminated and forouhar was killed. Now that he himself has been targeted, he no longer is associated with “bande mafia”. Their existence is co-dependent, from Rafsanjani to abas milani to karoubi and mousavi. Sorry mr milani but Iranians have talked, ONLY REVOLUTION / NO REFORM NO SUBSTITUE NO RAFSANJANI
