Reuters - San Francisco Sheriff Ross Mirkarimi, in a deal that would allow him to keep his badge and gun, pleaded guilty on Monday to a lesser misdemeanor charge in a spousal-abuse case linked to a New Year's Eve quarrel with his estranged wife. Under terms of his plea deal, prosecutors agreed to recommend Mirkarimi serve three years on probation, attend domestic-violence counseling and perform 100 hours of community service. He would also pay a $400 fine plus minor court costs, his attorney Lidia Stiglich said.
But in a sign that the political future of the city's first new sheriff in three decades may still be in question, San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee said he was meeting with the city attorney to decide whether to seek Mirkarimi's ouster on grounds that the sheriff had committed official misconduct. "I understand the troubling nature that this guilty plea raises, given the sheriff's role in overseeing and incarcerating criminals in our county jails," Lee said in a statement. "I intend to make a decision based on all of the facts as quickly as possible.">>>

he is iranian
by asadabad on Thu Mar 15, 2012 08:45 PM PDTAnd he's a stupid hypocrite. Don't try to deny the fact that's he's iranian. Persians think their sh!t doesn't stink. Well guess what? You're just like anybody else! Actually, I'd say you're worse than everybody else.. I can't think of any other sheriff in this country (hispanic, black, asian, white) who has ever been found guilty of beating up his wife. By the way, this guy is a coward too. If he's so tough, why does hit a little woman? Why not hit a grown man? The answer is obvious..
Anahid jaan this was hook, sinker and line!
by Esfand Aashena on Wed Mar 14, 2012 11:01 AM PDTThe fat lady has sung and the only act remaining is how people are reacting to it. Perhaps he gets a divorce or something like that but as far as him being in politics it is over. Act two may be we see his photos online wearing women underwear!
The only other possible remaining act that I can think of is due to extra liberalism in SF they may let him continue his position but that'd be the end.
I tell you what, if he remains in office for more than a month, I'll say I'm sorry for all I've said!
This happens all the time and that's why I said in my other comment in Faramarz's blog that I just don't understand why these public figures never learn. Wearing underwear with your mistress and think you can get away with it?!

by Esfand Aashena on Wed Mar 14, 2012 10:42 AM PDTHillary Clinton once went on national TV and boasted about calling out the Monica thing being "a vast rightwing conspiracy". Remember that? She regretted that statement and never spoke of it again once she had to face the music.
The man bruised his wife to the point that he was arrested for it AND he had an affair with women underwear AND abused his mistress. I don't care if Rush Limbauch, Sarah Palin or Fox News ratted him out. He is responsible for his actions and he is going to pay for it.
Trying to spin it any other way is just wishful thinking. He is finished in politics AND I may add ruined it for many other aspiring Iranians who may want to run for political office in SF some day.
Imagine voters' reaction when they find out "another Iranian" running for office.
It's not a little bit of this and a little bit of that. It's ALL Ross Mirkarimi. End of story. Now if this is a touchy subject and some are having an ashoura for it, then ok by all means let me join in!
SF shode karbo-balah! Mahdi biya! Mahdi Biya! Shahid rah SF! Mirkarimi!

by Anahid Hojjati on Wed Mar 14, 2012 10:33 AM PDTIt is a bit of this and a bit of that. Ross Mirkarimi probably bruised his wife's arms but do you really think that he would be where he is now if someone high up was not his political enemy. When he was one of the several SF supervisors, they were fine with it but this new position, did not make them happy.

A Plea Deal Does not mean Guilty
by bahmani on Wed Mar 14, 2012 10:02 AM PDTAs usual, I am appalled at the complete absence of Iranian intelligence, when it comes to LAW.
Governance I can understand, we are the biggest retards of the world, when it comes to not being able to figure out Democracy. Apparently 2500 years of tyrannical rule (including Cyrus) is not enough for Iranians to understand that juts maybe, self-governance might be better.
But the LAW, and how it works especially in connection with politics, should be pretty simple to understand. Since you ALL clearly don't get this, go study some more;
Look for Ross's political enemies. People in political power that he may have pissed off at one time or another.
Next sort them by People with ambition. People who have the most to gain if say Ross did not, or could not run for Mayor next election.
You should be able to find the real reason for all of this. Come see me after class if you still need help.

Men as "Recovering Male Chauvinists," at best.
by Siamak Asadian on Tue Mar 13, 2012 05:26 PM PDTBack in school days, we had this (constitutional law) professor, who used to describe himself as a "recovering Male chauvinist." As young students our initial response, always was along the lines that: he's being "too sensitive," or "he must have been p...y whipped at home,"...But as years go by, with an awareness of just how much patriarchy distorts, deforms and conditionds all our sensitivites , behaviour and values (for men and women), more and more you realize that overwhelming majority of men are at best only Recovering Male Chauvinists.
P.S. Obviuolsy some 'men' (it's more like eternal boy-child, in a grown man's body) never even enter that phase.
Siamak Jan, what's wrong with a man correcting his wives once in

We all need to be corrected once in a while.
Some of us would respond to please sit down.
Some of us would respond to hey you sit down.
And some of us would respond to hey @$$ O sit down.
Different folks respond to different commands.
America is the land of commander and commandee very much like Iran of the late Shah's era was a land of commander and commandee.
As long as there are commanders there will be commandees as well.
I would love to hear your opinion on this matter.
Thank you.

Karimi is not ex-Iranian- he's an American with Iranian father
by Sheila K on Tue Mar 13, 2012 03:52 PM PDT...that's all folks! just because he carries an Iranian last name that doesn't make him Iranian or ex-Iranian or American/Iranian. It's like saying Kardashian sisters are Armenians...NOT! they are more like from Slutian county of LA.
Although Karimi may have inhereted a bit of temper and narcism DNA from one of the parents.
We have no facts......
by Kaveh Nouraee on Tue Mar 13, 2012 02:07 PM PDT....only speculation. Only the Sheriff and Mrs. Sheriff know the truth.
One thing that IS certain, though. In California, if there is even the faintest scent of a domestic issue between a man and a woman, the man is assumed guilty even before the police arrive. If the woman says that there was any physical contact, the guy gets arrested, even if no physical contact took place.
This, is all thanks to one O.J. Simpson.

Ex-Iranians
by Mohammad Ala on Tue Mar 13, 2012 07:05 AM PDTAs many accomplishments of Ex-Iranians are not given credit to Iran, wrong doings of Ex-Iranians or Iranian-Americans must not be attributed to Iran or Iranians.
Generalizing men from one person’s act also will not help solve the abuse problem. Abuse of both women and men are universal and deep rooted in families and societies where these people have been brought up. Although each case is different, court records would reveal how men have been abused by women to reach their goals (especially in case of rich or famous men).
