I have received emails from folks (American) who do not have an account on IC stating they enjoyed the pictures and added Bakersfield has wonderful areas to see.  My mood was to move and sample.  I am sure if I stayed longer, there is much more to experience.  I promise to come back and take you up on your invitations of showing me around.

Country roads are very nice.  What's that song from the late John Denver; Country road, take me home, to the place I belong, West Virginia, mountain mama, take me home country roads!

PCH is probebly one of my all time favorate drives.  Ironically my drive ended at the Yosemite Park.

California dreamin

Driving along PCH1 early in the morning, as the sun is coming up, around Santa Barbara is probably as close to heaven as you could get.

Yosemite Park is not only a wonder, it also has gotten more than one honorable mention in Iranian novels and such.

Esfand, you are particularly correct when it comes to large 4 lane freeways in the US.

Nice pictures.  As one who loves driving to places, close and afar, I must disagree that American roads are boring.  Just consider:  a drive in the hills of western PA or Vermont in mid-late October will show you a million colors; or how about the heart stopping images you will get from driving on hwy 1 in California just south of Monterey; or the strentch of interstate between Sedona and Flagstaff in Arizona (don't miss the painted desert); or the red rock country of Utah; how about Colorado when you seemingly are almost touching the sky, etc.  I have also driven through the Alps in Europe, the Iberian peninsula, most of Italy and western Europe.  Every place has its own beauty, but one thing is certain that nature in US (particularly western US) is simply unmatched.  Just a thought!

Problem with many American landscape is they get boring.

There was a program on History channel that talked about roads or highways in the US and that they all look the same and all feel boring once you drive in them a while.

They said there is a reason for it and that is the convenience and safety that they had in mind.

But I still like travelling with car and if the trip is 8 hours or less I'll drive, it's cheaper too.

The one thing I missed the most when I lived in Hawaii was the fact I could not get into my car and go places. There is something about the freedom of driving in the off roads with the window down and the howl of wind and music mixing to create a monotone silence. Meeting people from different periods and visiting places that you don’t belong to. It is strangely comfortable.
