Photo essay: New Iranian flicks at San Francisco Film Festival

by Nazy Kaviani
29-Sep-2010

Over the weekend of September 18-19, the fabulous San Francisco Film Festival showcased many new Iranian films. The event also presented a tribute to Iranian stage and film actress, Fakhri Khorvash, with a special screening of an uncut version of the 1974 film, Shazdeh Ehtejab. You can see a list of the films which were shown at the San Francisco Film Festival here. You can also keep an eye on the 2011 San Francisco Film Festival, as it gets on its way, by occasionally checking out their blogs: iranianfilmfestival.blogspot.com.

Vildemose I plan to see it.

I plan to see The Secret in Their eyes though it sounds grizzly.  It won an Oscar this year (2010) so it must have been good or at least worth seeing.

DK jan: A bit off topic but I like to get your feedback on a highly recommended movie called "The Secret in Their eyes". Have you seen it??

BTW, great tribute to late T.C.

I am glad to see the multi-lingual aspiring actress, Sarah Tadayon......wow! She got a big smile! I hope she will be given a lot of opportunities in English, Farsi, or Chinese movies!

Thank you for the great photo essay!

Looks like a good event to pay tribute to our cinema pioneers.

Saeed Shafa is doing an excellent work with Triburon & IFF

A True Connaisseur and Lover of Cinema :

The Success of a Film Festival on the long run truly depends on the Stamina and love of the Founder for the films and professionals it showcases.

Unlike many Show Off Initiatives to date in the Iranian Diaspora Film Community where the Founder of the festival tries to promote himself or herself rather than take a true and deep interest in the profession and films presented, happily Mr. Shafa and his team on the contrary have developed a network of interesting and loyal connections with other passionate moviegoers and film critics over the years that enhance the quality and sincerity of their commitment to all GENUINE Lovers of the Silver Screen.

I wish him all the best of success in celebrating Iranian Cinema including that of the Diaspora productions which I believe is a noble endeavor to bridge our Persian Cinematic Culture with that of the American Independant cinema as well as more commercial Hollywood productions particularly given the competitive market of films which is a reality no one can ignore today and which all filmmakers need to take into account if they wish to survive and be taken into account.

Thanks Nazy Jaan for this wonderful photoessay.

My Only Regret : I wish I could have been there ... ;0(

You are right, MPD!

It is really good to see that Iranian treasures are honored during their lifetime. Fakhri Khorvash is a giant! We are so lucky to have her in California, where she can catch a plane and attend an event like this. I bet people in Iran miss her and wish they could be here to come show their love and respect for her.

Jaatoon khali bood! Do you remember Fakhri Khorvash?! Such a fantastic actress and what a lovely lady!

Souri Jan, on a couple of the photos inside, I wrote down some thoughts, hoping that we could have some discussion going. Take a look at these two photos and see what you think.
