Smoothing over reality
by Jahanshah Javid on Sun Aug 30, 2009 01:04 AM PDTSetareh Sabety has some good points. I too thought that it was odd that although the paintings are (almost) realistic, the women in many of these paintings have no vagina.
The genital area has been smoothed over in great nude statues of women as well, but Siadat's work are life-like and everything appears normal except for the vagina (although there are exceptions like #16). And so one wonders why? Are private parts too private?
On the other hand we should also consider that Saeed Siadat is not completely free to paint what he wishes when he is commissioned to paint a nude. In these cases, the customer/subject/model may prefer a hint/taste of sexuality rather than full exposure.
Great work
by Arash_1970 on Sun Aug 30, 2009 01:42 AM PDTArt can not be defined. It can not fit into any dictator's definition.Andy's Campbell Soup cans or Brillo boxes were art.Picasso's works were Art too.Even if you draw a line on a piece of white paper and call it art I'll call you an artist.Art is defined by thousands of people and critics in various ways. You can of course choose your own definition for it and stick to that definition but can not expect every one else to feel the same way. When it comes to art there is no definite answer. The French many years ago did not let Monet into their salons but today...
Mr Siadat's work is great in my opinion.I have always enjoyed looking at his work through the window of his Studio in Westwood. The hands are fine saeed jan , The vaginas are discret and once again your work reminds us that female beauty will never cease to amaze us.
Drwaing a woman does not make her a sex object in my oipnion but calling the collection "Eye Candy" might suggest that :-) Nudity is a very tabou subject in our visual arts even within our never returning back home diaspora.I think things will change as people are more and more exposed to such subjects.
Thank you for sharing Mr Siadat.I enjoyed it
is this art ??
by gitdoun ver.2.0 on Sun Aug 30, 2009 12:04 AM PDTcan't i get this off playboy.com ??? how is this Art ?? A good quote comes to mind --- "One person's Junk is another person's Art"
and i 100% agree with nazijoon.
And women complain that men are all dogs who only think of them as sex objects. hmmmm. i wonder how or why in the world would men have such an impression. music videos, commercials, movies, Vogue Magazine, Cosmopolitan Magazine/ Periodicals in General, music lyrics, Billboards and now "ART" could have something to do with it ...maybe !

Eye candy, yes; but art?
by Ahmed from Bahrain on Sat Aug 29, 2009 10:30 PM PDTThis is more like a chocolate box art, reasonably good in execution but monotonous and lacks true form, composition and individuality.
Expect this from a second year aspiring artist who needs to spend a lot more time developing his/her uniqueness.
Take this as a good critique from someone who has painted since school days and visited many European galleries and paid attention to works of art produced by masters.
Personally I love individuality, here is Egon Schiele when it comes to individuality. One instantly recognises his nudes.

I would never discourage any artist. So, go on painting despite what you read here or anywhere else.
A true artist lives for art, breathes art and when not painting dreams about art.
All the very best.

I find it disturbing that
by TheMrs on Sat Aug 29, 2009 08:01 PM PDTI find it disturbing that some of the nudes have great boobies accompanied by man hands! Does the artist need to work on how to depict feminine hands or is that what the models actually looked like? And thank good ness, there were no forests in this series, it's no the seventies!
Re: lol, Yolanda (Thank you, Souri, for the link!)
by yolanda on Sat Aug 29, 2009 09:45 PM PDTI visited the site you provided. Yes, it has different designs of towels. I like the towels in #19 and #22 in your site. I also like the model in #13, she does not look that bad, she just needs to have a bigger scarf to cover the strategic positions.
thanks for sharing!

Nazinoon, did you say:"piece of meet?" they are artists!
by gol-dust on Sat Aug 29, 2009 06:33 PM PDTcultural issues. in 2006 he had a hendi model. so i assume she left her hendi sheet behind, and that is why he is using the same sheets over and over again. Also, since he has to re-use it, it is easier to wash those thin sheets. No? That's not it?
you are right.

by Setareh Sabety on Sat Aug 29, 2009 01:23 PM PDTI agree with you mostly though at this age I personally would love to be taken as a 'sex object"! lol. but joking aside, I think you are right what struck me too was the lack of pubic hair and the very unreal looking vaginas. one of the pics #12? the model looks like a shemale tucking in his penis between his legs. now if this is a drawing of a she male then great. but if not then to demean the vagina like this is tasteless. either show it in all its glory or just don't go there! and surely ebi this is no rubens! is the artist a friend of yours? this is more like the fifties porn post cards. i checked out the artist's other works and much prefer them. this in my hmo is not good art both anatomically and aesthetically!
lol, Yolanda
by Souri on Sat Aug 29, 2009 12:32 PM PDTGo to the link I provided below, and pick #11 and #19
You will have similar towels. Those models are more gentle with the towels, you may get a better choice there :)
Have fun!

Appreciating women.
by Sarah M on Sat Aug 29, 2009 12:23 PM PDTThese pictures, while technically generally well done, show a problem inherent in male-dominated societies all over the world. These women are portrayed entirely as sexual objects. Prepubescently hairless objects with little to no depth. I'd like to see a woman drawn as she is sometime. Pubic hair, extra padding, emotional depth and all.
Until men start treating women like the wonderful beings they are instead of the purely sex objects they aren't, pictures like these will be accepted as "honoring women" when they are in fact degrading them.
nice, but.....
by Souri on Sat Aug 29, 2009 12:10 PM PDTWhy he uses always the same towel for his different models?
