Last stop: Visiting Monticello, the home of Thomas Jefferson

by Jahanshah Javid

Monticello, Thomas Jefferson's home in Virginia, was my last stop before reaching Washington, DC, my final destination, finally! It was a reminder of what a great man he was: unquestionably flawed in his ownership of slaves until the very end, until his death, and yet so influential in the spread of the idea that all are created equal, that liberty and the pursuit of happiness are everyone's inalienable rights.

Nice pictory.

The melons are garmak, I think.  Athough the best Persian melons are kharbozeh Mashhadi!

So why didn't you come to the sculpture garden?!  It was very nice and you missed it.  Not too many Fridays left of the Jazz outdoor programs.  I'm telling you, you'll like it bubba!

Everything is sacred

Paine's "Common Sense"

by Jahanshah Javid on

Thanks sseyedian for mentioning Thomas Paine. He's one of my favorite characters. I wrote a paper on him when I was a journalism major at the University of New Mexico.

His pamphlet Common Sense calling for independence from the British monarchy is a work of genius. It left a great impression on me.

None can stand next to Sir Thomas Payne, especially in America

by sseyedian on

America and Mr Payne's compatriots owe a lot to him for what they are and should be ashamed of how he was treated, including Thomas Jefferson.

Most extremely well-done, the whole enchilada... Turn the whole series into a documentary film.
