It's a Kindle

Yes folks I am writing this using a Kindle 3. What is seriously appealing about it is that the internet is free and global. Of course it is a book reader but you can do other things with it. Unlike Android you can read articles in Persian on Iranian.com. So if you are into books and do not like internet fees for life then get this lovely device. And of course the battery lasts a week.

If you want to be simple and basic and a skin flint like me, and have weak hands, then Sam Tab sucks, or Kindle rocks.  In time you will see them all produce a thin job and they will put it in a Corn Flakes packet.

JJ I had to use my pc to

by alimostofi on

JJ I had to use my pc to reply to you because my Android phone does not work on your site.

At the moment the Android system is not Persian font friendly.  I don't know whether there is a national security issue.  Twitter in Persian does not show.

As far as the best phone it is hard to say.  I have iphone Blackberry Windows as well as Android.  Having looked at all of them I would say that the developers for Apple platform are way ahead.  The Iranians on that platform have an app that changes the keyboard to a Persian font when you want to type something in Persian. The only problem with the Ipad is the price size and no multitasking.  So you can't twit chat as well as write.

So you need another device as well.  The Opera browser on an old Windows Professional 6.5.3 is still the best.  Sony Aspen is a good old phone or get the new Nokia C3 for £60 with opera mini that will show the Persian. Blackberry Torch is great phone, and their platform is the best for communication. But you do not have a lot of apps as they have high standard.  But the free BB messenger network is superb.  You can for example get an meial then convert it to a mext message and send it everyone.  But there is no Persian keyboard.  BB does multitasking.

I do not know why Android does not allow Persian on their latest Android 2.2.  The future Gingerbread Tablets should do it.  I am making enough noise to get them thinking.  It should be a doddle for them.  I think it is a security thing with the Middle East and Twitter and Facebook that are creating their own social networking platforms.  There are some really cool social networks coming along which will be all encrypted and is not penetrable by the owners.

The world is moving in a new private encrypted social networking framework and they governments are worried - especially the Chinese.

Bring it on!

Well the TV should be ok

by Anonymouse on

Anahid jaan Samsung also touts as being less expensive than similar products.  Something like a TV where you just turn it off and on should be ok.

The article that JJJ provided said that  "Tab is the first true competitor to Apple's iPad".  So basically iPad is the standard that others strive to achieve.  The read deal!

So for someone like JJJ who always abuses his toys to find out "what's inside" (like a devilish little boy ;-) he needs the top of the line iPad!  A Samsung Tab will probably last him a week before he throws it out to the corner in anger!

Dear Anonymouse, I just bought a HD LED Samsung TV for the bedroom. For the size of it, it was expensive because of having LED technology. I let you know if it gives me any trouble.

Samsung is SUCKS to Canada! Always!

by Anonymouse on

I never trust a Samsung brand.  They're like the double talk salesman who won't tell you what he is selling does "not" do! He'll tell you what it does, but not what it doesn't.

For example, they have this combo VCR/DVD recorder that supposedly allows you to record your old VHS to DVDs, except you need to buy another piece of equipment to allow you to do it!  You can't just hook it up and expect it to work.

I didn't buy that combo but most of their products are shady and I've seen so many complaints that just don't trust their brand.  Just read some of the users comments on their products. They are mostly all Sucks to Canada!

iPad is not big, it's the size of a small book, much less and thiner that a laptop.  The good thing about it is that you take it out and it's there, right there.  I like it very much but don't have much use for it.  It's a luxury.  For now and when on travel I use a Dell 9" mini.

Samsung Galaxy Tab

by Jahanshah Javid on

I just saw a friend two days ago. He has HTC phone with Android. He loves it. And it had a Farsi keyboard too.

Most Blackberries have small screens although they have come out with a bigger version which is about the size of an iPhone.

The iPad is too big and awkward for me. Plus it does not support Flash. I would rather hold on to my laptop.

Here's the Samsung Galaxy Tab which my friend recommended. It seems to be what I need for my type of work and travels:

I don't think that the electronic version of all books are available; that's why I have not bought a book reader yet.

I bought a smart phone on which I can get my emails, etc but it doesn't support Persian font. The operating system is Android which sucks!

JJ, your smartphone usage is different than most

by Anahid Hojjati on

I use my Blackberry a lot but Here is my confession, I have had a kindle for months but I need to start using it. But JJ, an Iranian friend of mine recommends a different book reader since with that one, you can download many Farsi books for free. Let me ask him which one it is. Even though Blackberry is great inside US, for someone like you JJ, you have to make sure device answers your needs which are different than a typical user because of your travels and your need for a device that is more user friendly for Farsi.

JJJ seems like iPad is the latest and greatest in technology

by Anonymouse on

I don't have a smartphone and don't even text!  but I can see someone like you can use them. I mean you're literally living off and on the internet!

iPad should also go with your iPhone if you want to get a smartphone.  Verizon should have it by Christmas.

I want one

by Jahanshah Javid on

I've been thinking about getting one. I've been buying too many novels lately and carrying them on my travels is not something I want to do.

I need to get a smart phone too. A friend of mine recommended the Samsung Galaxy as well as their new tablet. I need to get updated with all this exciting new technology.
