A look at the reaction people have given to Obama winning the Nobel Peace Prize makes you think, how important it really was for him to greet the Moslem world.
//views.washingtonpost.com/post-user-polls/20...
But more importantly it means that the radicals in the Moslem world, especially the Seyyeds in Iran, cannot take this man lightly.
Now for the first time ever we have a US President who has all the accolades to not be brushed off by groups like the Non-Aligned nations, who support the Seyyeds.
Once the nuclear deadlines with the Seyyeds are passed, there will be no excuse for anyone to oppose what US foreign policy dictates.
So if the US does attack anyone, it would have been done in good judgement. We are led to believe anyway.

Obviously everybody here is
by alimostofi on Fri Oct 09, 2009 11:29 AM PDTObviously everybody here is surprised, like the rest of the world. It reminds me of the moment Arafat was awarded. This man represents the single biggest obstacle to Peace and he is using every tool possible to make sure that when he does attack, he does it from a morally high ground.
The reason for what I say is this. The US forces need to stay afloat. The US military industrial complex needs to stay in business. It won't happen if there is true peace. There is then a good reason from some people's point of view, for their to be war.
Obama will be the most innocent unlikeliest President in USA to start WWIII because of his background, and now he even has a Nobel Prize. But that is exactly why he has been put at this situation. The forces that will start the next war, will not want the leader of US to be a person with a personal vendetta or religious fanaticism that GWB had.
So the Seyyeds (apologies to all who disagree with my use of this word) will not be able to blame Obama for anything. Oh they want war, and perhaps they should have nominated Ahmadijenad, so that he would become converted to peace like Arafat. But no Obama has been sanctified by the "Holy Water of Nobel". Obama is one of the "Holier than Thou" folks!
So what we have is a person who can, at the right time turn around to tell the Seyyeds, "listen, I am Obama. The world loves me, and I am right when I decide to strangle you and bomb you if I want".
The stage is set for the world to kill. As an advocate of non-violence I am just too cynical for all this. I fear that there is something really fishy going on, and a lot of this is PR in advance of a major confrontation. Let us hope I am wrong and we have peace.

205 nominees were nominated for 2009 peace prize, largest ever.
by Anonymouse on Fri Oct 09, 2009 10:53 AM PDTWe don't even know who the nominees were and yet we are all qualified to say something about Obama.
Here's the link to some of the 205 nominees:

I couldn't find a list of all the names but 33 out of 205 were organizations and rest individuals. BTW Iranians have not "accomplished" anything, have they?

Do not take me wrong, I am an avid supporter of President Obama, however he was awarded the honor more for what he has said so far rather than what he has done.
He did have the generosity to mention Neda on top of his list, for that I commend him.

He is leader of the free world. Bush was also leader of the free world but compare the 2 and the differences. If you can't, then you're truly unfair. That's about all I can say.
I know for sure many in Iran, Ahmadi and his supporters will laugh at this prize but is it really laughable? Do you want to be in the same camp as Ahmadi on this one? If you do, then by all means be my guest.

I wish there was another blog about the Nobel prize for me to post the speech since I find the use of the word "seyyed" by Mr Mostofi very offensive... why not the ruling mullahs, the IRI or something more specific and less racist? I may never know.

Congratulations.
by Mohammad Ala on Fri Oct 09, 2009 07:26 AM PDTThe U.S.A. image was immensely tarnished during the Bush
administration. President Obama has tried to promote understanding and cooperation among nations, but he was in the office for four months when he was nominated for this Award, hardly enough to gain international community's trust, especially when he ordered to increase the troops in Afghanistan by 40,000j and did not lift the sanctions of basic needs such as medicine to countries such as Iran.
The Award was given to him to seek peaceful solutions rather than war.
If President Obama carries through his initiatives he campaigned for,
he well deserves the prize IMHO. One might say the prize should have been given to him when he accomplishes those goals, that is a fair argument, but maybe the Nobel committee wanted to encourage him in his endeavors.
