As the diamond jubilee weekend is about to commence Britons pay to their monarch, Queen Elizabeth II. a fitting tribute for six decades of public service. The tributes began tonight by Prince Charles paying a rich homage to Her Majesty, or Mama as he refers to her affectionately, by playing some of the family's home movies on the BBC, the first of many tributory programs to be broadcast in this extended weekend:

Dear anglophile: First let me share with you…
by Bavafa on Sat Jun 02, 2012 12:18 PM PDTAs much as I differ from your devotion and admiration of monarchy, I like your sense of debate and civility and contribution. Though I often find myself in the opposing view when it comes to Shah or Monarchy, I follow your debate with others specially when it is kept civil. Keep it up. Now about the celebration and diamond jubilee in UK, I guess this goes back to my opposition to Monarchy, who pays for all of this and why?
I am a firm believer in every one need to stand on his/her own and would support Charles, RP or any other King/Queen to be if they could earn it on their own and not because they were born to it.
Enjoy your celebration in UK.

Amir jaan you are an astute and objective observer
by anglophile on Sat Jun 02, 2012 04:21 AM PDTThank you for your comment. Regardless of what the foreign British policy may or may not have been over the last couple of hundred years, one cannot help admiring the high regards in which they hold their national institutions such as Monarchy. Britain is in my opinion the best example of how a successful and forward looking parliamentary monarchy should be and an example for all monarchies to follow.
Thank you for putting up Charles video Anglophile
by amirparvizforsecularmonarchy on Sat Jun 02, 2012 02:17 AM PDTThe british are doing such great job of the diamond jubilee
Without any encouragement or a word of complaint there are street parties down almost every street around me, our nrighbours are holding a large garden party and it really gives me a sense of hope in humanity, when I see the selfless, civilized atitude of the people towards their own queen, their good traditions and culture. This magical energy is how it is supposed to be. It is simlar to the Persian Nowrooz Celebration in a way, yet with the unity of celebration of the queen on every 7 sin, like it used to be in Iran.
The Brits did a better job with the idea of continuity than anyone else, certainly Iranians and our Shia. Watching Charles video its good to see such a harmonious and happy extended family during the events enjoying participating in the countries pagentry.

by anglophile on Sat Jun 02, 2012 01:15 AM PDTNo one can report about and portray the royalty as best as you can. I just thought to seize the occasion and write a blog or two about the events of this weekend in Britain. The full photograph of the one I used in this blog is featured on the front page of the special issue of the Times newspaper today so you may wish to buy a copy if you wish for souvenier. Her Majesty the Queen indeed emanated natural beauty in her younger days which did not need heavy make up. Indeed the royal protocols forbid her from using heavy cosmetics. Now in her eighties she is cutting a caring and immensely respectful grandmother's figure to a very appreciative nation. I have enormous respect for her.
Thanks for your visit and wished you were here for the celebrations.
Thanks Anglophile Jan
