In celebration of the 2568th anniversary of the Persian New Year I am posting a video which I created comprised of images I shot while visiting Musee du Louvre, Ancient Near East section, Ancient Iran & Mesopotamian Art.
I was born on Iranian soil and left at a young age - in my heart I wish for the day that I can return, as an adult and as a photographer, to capture the magic and mysteries of this rich and ancient land on film and share them with whomever may be interested.
Until that day comes, the section of the Louvre which houses the arts, artifacts, and architectural art history of the Great Persian Empire, is the closest I can get to the magnificent splendor that Iran has to offer.
To all Iranians, in Iran and in the diaspora communities around the world, I send my most sincere wishes for a healthy and Happy New Year. As we say in Farsi: "Eid-e-Shoma Mobarak".

Stop soosool bazi
by Alborzi (not verified) on Thu Mar 19, 2009 11:06 AM PDTFirst of all, all the calendars are based on some known bench mark. Like when, Jesus was born or the Jewish
calendar. The idea of 90210 was to show you an arbitrary calendar is just something soosool. The whole idea of Shah declaring there must have been 2500 years before is just soosool, thats why he and his sons are not in Iran and the guy who understood a coward soosool, is. So just remember to repeat 1388 and don't be too obvious. You may not like those barbarians.
Alborzi, the
by norouzpirouz (not verified) on Thu Mar 19, 2009 06:37 AM PDTAlborzi, the NON-sosool,
According to our erudite resident Islamists, Alborzi, Iran did not exist before Islam and if you god forbid mention the existence of Iranian culture before the arab-Islam conquest, you are automatically labeled as "sosoool". With Iranians like Alborzi, who needs foreign enemies.
Shameful.

NoRooz in 2009 will coincide with the year: 3747 (Zartoshti - Zoroastrian) - 2568 (Shahanshahi - Imperial, since Cyrus the Great) - 1388 (Khorshidi - Solar)
For more information on NoRooz tradition, rituals, the mentioned years, and history, see the series starting with NoRooz Part One (incl. “true time” calculations, in comments & links)

Wow, Alborzi (not verified)
by MiNeum71 on Thu Mar 19, 2009 01:26 AM PDTPrivate lesson at its best: now we know, 90210 is the zip code of Beverly Hills.
Btw: Celebrating the Year 2568 is really embarrassing.
You must be soosool
by Alborzi (not verified) on Wed Mar 18, 2009 06:45 PM PDTYou know its 1388, only the idiot coward (the RP)
thought it was not and he was hallucinating. Even his
son finds the calendar thing too embarrassing to mention,
only soosools would know it. So change the date to 90210
The zip code of Beverly Hills, that would be great.
Let's not forget that
by . (not verified) on Tue Mar 17, 2009 04:44 PM PDTmost of these treasures were stolen from the Iranian nation during the corrupt reins of Pahalavis or the Ghajar pigs before them.
To: meneum71.Did you say fish abuse?
by e rooni 1 (not verified) on Tue Mar 17, 2009 04:26 PM PDTInstead of worrying about fish abuse worry about human abuse.He just had a war in the Gaza strip that caused over 1300 deaths,thousands injured,hundred of houses destroyed,thousand of people became homeless ,millions of dollars in property damage.We also have a continuing war in Iraq that has caused thousands of lives and in Afghanistan also has caused thousands of deaths and casualties .In Africa we have people who are dying of hunger and diseases and you are talking about a fish that you do not like to see living by herself!One more thing that you forgot to say about fish was that if for some reason a fish passes away be sensitive and do not just put the poor fishy in the trash can release that poor soul in the toilet so if the fishy was not quit dead,she could swim to safety of open water:0)) happy norooz
Point Well Taken
by LalehGillani on Wed Mar 18, 2009 08:53 AM PDT"At least they are safe" until the day comes that Iranians reclaim their Persian heritage, the day when we are free of oppression… Only until that day!
At least they are kept away from destruction
by kashanid (not verified) on Tue Mar 17, 2009 01:00 PM PDTAlthough Miss Gillani has a point,but these treasures would have not been kept in good conditions as they are now if they were left in place. I have heard that for years people would go target shooting in "Takhte Jamshid" That is why most faces got destroyed by our own uneducated people. Just be thankful for this type of "illegal" activities in the past.That's all.
Thanks
by MRX1 on Tue Mar 17, 2009 11:41 AM PDTthanks for using correct calander instead of that meaningless omati calander. Thanks for Louvre musume for saving these precious arts from mollah's and mollah khorha's destruction.
The Fruits of Thievery
by LalehGillani on Tue Mar 17, 2009 09:24 AM PDTLouvre houses some of the most precious and priceless Persian artifacts ever unearthed. The majority of the artifacts were obtained illegally either through illicit contracts awarded by corrupt Iranian governments or were simply bought from treasure hunters and looters.
International laws and treaties prohibit the illicit import, export, and transfer of cultural properties. This collection belongs to the rightful heirs of the Persian Empire: the Iranian nation.
Iranian archeologists have painstakingly sought to reclaim these artifacts in the past. However, their efforts have been hindered by corrupt Iranian politicians and administrations. Once our nation is represented by patriots, we will be able to work within the framework of the international law to bring these artifacts back home.
Until then, we are simply spectators to the fruits of thievery…
To all Iranians Who Celebrate Eid
by MiNeum71 on Tue Mar 17, 2009 08:02 AM PDTI know that many Iranians didn´t know or considere this before, but keeping just one goldfish in an ordinary fishbowl is animal abuse.
Please, please, please buy either at least two fishes AND a big aquaria or just let them be.
For further information click irandokht.com.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
If you add a goldfish to your Haft Sin table please follow the steps below which are prepared by The Center for Animal Lovers in
Iran (btw: not having a goldfish will not diminish the importance of
Haft Sin, and it´s important to keep the good traditions and modify or
eliminate the ones that are harmful to people, animals, and to the
environment):
1) purchasing goldfishes from locations with large containers clean water;
2) using large containers (preferably glass) and have also a large opening for good air circulation;
3) laying few stones into the container as a hiding place for the fishes;
4) putting the container away from very cold or very hot locations (and definitely from direct sunlight);
5) never changing more than half of the water at once;
6) buying at least two fishes;
7) having a plan for releasing the fishes safely after Eid.
