Shahrnoush Parsipour as a Master Iranian Writer
by Mash Ghasem on Fri Feb 17, 2012 05:51 PM PSTThank you Ari jaan, for this timely reminder. It's a shame that we Iranians either don't know of our cultural gems and resources while they're alive and celeberate their lives only when they're no longer amongst us.
When I was a kid, her novel "The Dog and the Long Winter" was banned (for the stupidest reasons, as was the MO during Ary Az Mehr's time) hence it became very popular amongst us, so I read it, but due to my age, didn't understood the narrative at all!
Some decades later I read her amazing surreal-historical novel " Toba and the Meaning of the Night," and I still consider it a top ten Iranian novel. Najaf Daraybandary, amongst many other critiques also have highest praises for that novel as well.
Shirin Neshat has turned one of her novels into a movie. Her works has been translated to more than fourteen languages. Below are some more info on her.

Happy Birthday, beloved Shahrnoush
by Azadeh Azad on Mon Feb 20, 2012 01:30 PM PSTI love your works and your undomesticated mind. I also like your stubbornness :-). HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
I have been once at your house in Tehran with a gang of friends in the mid 1990's and conversed with you, but you probably don't remember it.
You were surprised that I had returned to Iran after 25 years abroad, and I suggested to you to start a "creative writing group" and you diplomatically said, "What a good idea!" :-). Do you remember now? :-) You probably later thought, "What a dangerous idea! Doesn't this woman know that Basijis would pour into my house after a while, arresting everyone for endangering "National Security"??
Hugs,
Azadeh
