Hidden country names

Hidden country names

In each of these phrases the name of a country is hidden. Can you find them?

The leaders are full of hot air and bluster

These folks have lunch in a bowl

Secretly they may be busy Rial-counting

Goodbye men of  privilege

A bigger man years ago

Drape rugs over the pack animals

They put a whale ban on the wrong country

His paintings made no sense.

Admin dials for tech support

At times we denied there was something rotten in their neighboring country.

And as a bonus: I would ask her out on a date if I could control my hypersialorria . Look it up!

Ok. It's somethng between what I thought and what I thought Ari thought :-). It's about finding the ending and beginning of two close-by words. That's too easy!

I need diffult stuff.

Cheers,

Azadeh

This looks like fun

Especially since I have the answers too, no pressure :).

The answers are actually quite visual as you can see in the second set of sentences Ari posted, the sentences (in meaning) have practically nothing to do with the country in question.

Ari ... at last :-)

by Azadeh Azad on

When you say that in each phrase a country is hidden, it makes some readers (i.e., me) think visually not semantically. If you had said "each of these phrases alludes to a country," extremely visual people would not have got confused! - Although I know that you, as a Quiz Presenter, are not here to facilitate our understanding of the Quiz :-).

What confused me even more was your "hypersialorria." Again, I looked at it visually, the word Persia hidden within a bunch of made-up letters. Iranian people do not suffer from this unknown malady that is "hypersialorria." So, the Quiz could not have been about a simple concept, but about creating / finding words with letters within sentences that have nothing to do with the name of the country!

Plus, I had found "These folks have lunch in a bowl" and other ones too easy :-)

Cheers,

Azadeh

Would be happy to explain, but Mehrban has dibs.

What did you think of the ambiguity in the image "Mask of Love?"

Mehrban, A+

Here are a few weaker ones (do not necessarily reflect a characteristic of the country) just for fun.

Give that bear cub a hug.

Nazy jan

by Azadeh Azad on

You're too nice to offend anyone. I actually meant "dearest Ari jan" not you. I was not offended by him either (regarding his last comment), just a friendly poke to him in third person. LOL.

Cheers,

Azadeh

Ps. I find the Internet communications quite tricky. We are not there with our body language to accompany our words. I hope one day we can all appear to each other in hologram. That would be a great communication tool.

Azadeh Jan,

I was just being silly. Forgive me if I offended you, my super smart friend.

Now that we're talking About Commenters Not To them...

by Azadeh Azad on

Didn't Ari ask:

"In each of these phrases the name of a country is hidden. Can you find them?"

Cheers,

Azadeh

Nazy, Azadeh

by Ari Siletz on

Azadeh seems to have given us the reverse puzzle; as in given the country name, find a sentence that includes its spelling in a sequential letter series.

"Paraguay" has me totally stumped. But here's one for Bosina: "On the island of Lesbos niacin is in high demand."

Nazy, I hear you about sad times. Even puzzle words protest by mispelling themselves: "Tiranny!"

Nazy Kaviani

Oh No!

by Nazy Kaviani on

Oh no! Here comes a super smart one--Azadeh! I'm so glad I took my shot earlier! And was there more than one country name in some of the lines? I'm so glad I didn't know that!

Ari Jan, I think the correct spelling is hypersialorrhea, but not because I'm smart or because I had heard of this word before tonight, but because Google knew to offer the right spelling!

Thanks for the late night diversion on a sad night.

Goodnight Ari and Azadeh Jans!

Isn't this about countries' names?

Nazy jan: other people are awake as well. LOL. A lot of night people around :-)

Ari Siletz

You've got them Nazy!

by Ari Siletz on

Though I messed up because you can't look up hypersialorria. The added puzzle is to find the correct spelling of the word. Google it!

Nazy Kaviani

Oh good, everyone's sleeping...

by Nazy Kaviani on

and I won't look like an idiot if I took too long to answer, or if I got them all wrong...

But wouldn't I give it away too soon if my answers are correct?

So, instead, I will leave the currency names of each country I found in your puzzle!

Let's see: Soon-to-be-Dinar-but-not-yet; Yuan; Pound; Rial; Euro; Nuevo Sol; Pound; Euro; Rupee; Krona; soon-to-be-Rial-but-not-yet.
