Norman Gershman has become accustomed to the reactions from people who see his photos and read his stories about Muslims sheltering Jews and saving their lives during the Holocaust.
"I had people say 'Muslims save Jews! How is that?'" the American Jewish fine art photographer told IslamOnline.net in a telephone interview--youtube description of video.

by Farah Rusta on Wed Nov 03, 2010 04:57 AM PDTActually I know of a similar case of another brave Iranian diplomat/translator who was locally employed by the Iranian embassy in Rome in 1940's and saved many people (Jewish Iranians and Italians) from under the clutches of the then fascist government of Italy but unfortunately I can't remember his name. All I know is that he might have been a Bahai and was in the employ of the embassy until about the Islamic revolution when one day his lifeless body was discoverd on the railroads of a major station in Rome.
Perhaps one of the readers may know more and be able to shed some light on the life and identity of this humane and heroic life saver Iranian.

They saved
by oktaby on Tue Nov 02, 2010 09:31 PM PDTJews because they were decent humans. The next door neigbor of these saviors will have likely done the opposite (and generally did). One could even argue that many Jews, having suffered what they did, seem oblivious and indifferent to much suffering around the world and do their share of inflicting it.
To attribute these acts of humanity to Islam or other religions is a stretch in my opinion and not supported by historic facts and legacy of religious practice and behavior, minus some exceptions.
Turks also saved thousands during Vichy government between 1940-44 despite wishes of their government //www.eurojewcong.org/ejc/news.php?id_article...
"..Recent findings of many contemporaneous documents
from the NARA, Library of Congress, and the FDR Presidential
library archives attest to the fact that the intervention in behalf of
French Jews with Turkish origins was not the policy of the Government of
Turkey at all. Rather, it was the determined undertaking of members of
the Turkish diplomatic corps who acted on their own against the extant
policy of their own government and that of the US and the UK. These men
of conscience risked their careers and often their lives finding no
support among their diplomatic peers representing western countries
including those in the US legation. With their deeds these diplomats
risked the wrath and ire of their own government as well as Germany and
Vichy France."``

Perfect.
by mahmoudg on Tue Nov 02, 2010 10:24 AM PDTAlthough Islam is incapable of such acts, as seen in Iran. I think the people saved people. Islam, Judaism, Christianity, Zoroastiranism. All are the root cause of these problems. If there were no religions, then we would have no jews or mulims to kill each other. We are all human beings living on this one planet we have.
