I read this poem while ago

I read this poem while ago and I said ... what the hell ? !!!!

Are we even allowed to do that?

Poor Hafez  first Daniel Ladinsky and now Babak : )

Let's not forget ...

The first Beyt is Hafez, of course - with the author then creating his/her own Ghazal thereafter.  I wanted to throw in a pointer - let's not forget that Hafez, almost without fail - when talking of something that he did not like/believe in , would in its place talk of what he did like/believe in. In this very poem - he contrasts the institutional monasteries, with the spiritual circles he finds among the Magi.

Among those Magi  he finds a contrast to the torment he finds himself in, the Magi strengthening his heart with water alone:

می دهند آبی و دلها را توانگر می کنند 

One gathering torments him, the other helps him reach ecstasy. The biggest lesson Hafez offers us, (and remember he had the Moghuls etc. at his door) - is to not drown ourselves in the negative. Feel it, but if it doesn't catapult you to a more positive place, then the negative  has won.
