What is in a name?

I am not a frequent visitor of this site (as much as I would love to), but I came across a hotly debated topic on this site that I couldn’t resist posting this piece no matter how much time it will take. .An Obama lover who will give her life to see him elected posts a blog to discredit McCain and his supporters and deceitfully bringing race into the debate.

“How low can you go?”.

Her point is that those who judge Obama as terrorist sympathizer and anti American, are racists and suffer from Islamophobia. How could any human being with a single functioning brain cell come to that conclusion?.

There is a lot more to a name than just a name. You will never find a Jew named Muhammad, and you will never find a Muslim called Zion and for sure you will hardly ever find a Christian called Hussain. It is irrelevant what Obama’s religion is. What is relevant is his character and trustworthiness (of course, after you close your eyes to his charm). He has no integrity and character. He has no religion other than communism. The only reason he has been going to a Christian church is because that chuch has been anti–american to the core. That, in itself doesn’t make him despicable. It is the fact that he lies and tries to deceive his audience that makes him a snake and opportunist.

You say, so what? Even if he is a Muslim, average American should ignore his religion. If they don’t, they are racists and islamophobics. What a stupid logic…..

In all fairness I want to ask these brainwashed dummies: Would you elect a Jew, if 19 Jews murdered 3000 of your innocent people? Please don’t start the bullshit debate to justify the murders. As an ordinary citizen you will be guarded against the Jews. This is not JEWPHOBIA. And for sure it is not racism. It is a defense mechanism.

If you see, day-in and day-out, members of a religion (when it comes to their distorted ideals) show no respect for life (their own or other innocents), you will be guarded. This is not Islamophobia.

This blog is not about condoning or condemning US policies, it is simply about presentation of truth by individuals and trustworthiness.

I beg Nanaz (Ms. Ghasemian) to go and read Zion’s posts a few more times and have the courage to admit to the flaw in her post.

I agree with samsam111. The coward friend who is 2-faced and speaks from both sides of his mouth is far more dangerous than my enemy. Although it is not the subject of this blog, but, samsam, in my opinion, has presented the only legitimate argument when it comes to Iranian heritage.

The self proclaimed Psychologist of this site (i.e Kleenex But, KB) needs some help himself to figure out who he is and why he is here (other than voting for Obama). Obviously, his parents and grand parents (like many other Obama supporters on this site) are enjoying free benefits, without contributing anything to the society. Obama’s presidency will pave the road for their aunts and uncles as well as their lazy nieces and nephews.

I know my post will be bombarded with racist remarks, but, I couldn’t help myself and had to vent, at least, some of my frustration

When it comes to the type of leadership people represent, their fundamentalist ideas are more important to me than their charm or lack there of.

A charming fundamentalist... hmmm  are we talking about Sarah Palin again?

You must have misunderstood me. Where did I compare fundementalists in Iran with anyone in the US? I didn't!

I only mentioned the "charm" the two men display(ed) and that people should not fall for others' charm.

Jamshid & Bijan .. Obama's talk with Khamenei's man in Detroit

by samsam1111 on

On May 14 Mr. Obama visited Michigan and spoke to a group of 20 local leaders, but decided to give a special private audienc to the head of the Islamic Center of America Imam Hassan Qazwini a Qom educated Mullah . For Obama to be chatting in a one-on-one with Qazwini, is equivalent to meeting with Ayatollah Khameini’s, and Hezbollahs’ representative in America.

American Wife

well, I hope you feel better after venting

by American Wife on

cause you sure did open another Pandora's box.  I wonder what iranian.com is going to focus on after the elections...:-)  For sure it's been the highlight of MY life!

Maybe it's just me but I don't agree with your assessment of Nazanin's article.  I am quite sure that any reasonable, much less educated, person reading it is NOT suggesting that anyone not supporting Obama is a racist or anti-anything.  Well, except anti-liberal...lol.  Surely you're not suggesting that racism IS NOT a major factor?

What I got from it is that the conservative right is playing on that defense mechanism you're talking about by labeling Obama as a Muslim, knowing full well that most American's are going to equate being Muslim as being a terrorist.  That's a fact whether you like it or not.  And surely you'll agree that that's not fair either.

Her point is that those who judge Obama as terrorist sympathizer and anti American, are racists and suffer from Islamophobia. How could any human being with a single functioning brain cell come to that conclusion?.

Do you honestly believe that's not a true statement?????  Did you not hear that redneck woman say she didn't trust Obama because he was an Arab?  Right or wrong... arab = muslim = terrorist.

I hope you realize that it's not a one-sided issue when you speak of a politician not always speaking the truth.  I'm not naive.  I don't believe every single word out of his mouth.  But McCain ain't no paragon of truth either, my friend.

You exaggerate some issues, as do I, when you're frustrated.  I totally understand that.  But specifically on the Wright issue.  He attended his church for 20 years.  This doesn't mean he agrees with every word spoken by the guy!  I haven't heard every single one of his sermons and I doubt the Republican spin masters have either.  Is he anti-American or just plain pissed off at America?  I'm pretty pissed off myself at the US.  I think we've fucked up on many issues.  But I love and will support her to the death.  Obama renounced his radical views... that's all.  And yeah, distanced himself from a volatile relationship.  Isn't McCain doing the same thing... running like a scared rabbit from any connection with Bush???

So.  No, as an educated person, I would never suggest that YOU are a racist because you don't support Obama.  You've made an intelligent and careful choice based on YOUR beliefs, hopes and expectations.  But it's not fair to deny that a major majority of the conservative right IS racist.

Dear Azarin

by Bijan A M on

I have always respected you as an unbiased person without any prejudice, whether I agreed or disagreed with you on any issue. Of course I never meant that a name will automatically determine your belief system, and who you are etc…But, I got really frustrated when I read Ms. Ghasemian’s blog and many of the comments from a group of well educated people, suggesting that anyone who does not support Obama is either a racist or Islamophobic. That would be over 40% of the people in this country (myself included) as racists just on the basis of some racist comments from some stupid bigoted individuals in the camp.

As I have repeatedly stated in every one of my comments on this site, my reason for not supporting Obama as a candidate has nothing to do with his religion or color of skin. What turned me off was his lack of integrity to stand by his principles. I realize it is politics and you can’t speak your true beliefs all the time if you want to win.

But, to praise someone as your mentor and defend him as a decent man in a fiery speech and a week later dump the same guy as someone you never knew in another fiery speech is deceit. I have never denied that he is extremely articulate, intelligent, charismatic, etc…I have listened to him, but for the reason I just mentioned I don’t trust him. Does that make me a racist?. Millions of Americans do not support him for his liberal views, are they all racists? And, yes, millions of Americans probably won’t vote for him because they may think he is muslim. That in itself doesn’t make them racists or Islamophobics for the reason I was trying to point out in my blog.

I have also said repeatedly (on this site) that, as a believer in the system of democracy I will respect and support Obama (in criticism) to respect and support the will of majority if he is elected president.

I realize that I got too passionate out of extreme frustration when I posted my blog and that has reflected in the tone of my post. But, I have also learned that in spite of its motto, there are some things that are sacred on this site. One of those is Obama.

I have always been an admirer of JJ for maintaining a fair and balanced site and trying to stay as true to its motto within the realm of civility. However, something has slipped and it appears that some opinionated moderators are stretching their authority beyond the spirit of this publication.

Azarin, thanks for you comments.

Best regards,

Bijan

I wear those names as a badge of honor coming from their likes. Here it,s even worse , because the protected can throw punches & the reciever has to take it & if challenged, He/She will be deleted...heeh it rhymes too... Yes pathetic but not sad..very entertaining indeed. Cheers pal!!

When you compare fundamentalists in Iran vs in USA, please note that the parallel can be drawn between the likes of "emaam khomeini" as you mentioned with "Sarah Palin" type but not with Obama.

That's a little detail that some people seem to overlook. Muslim fundamentalists and Christian fundamentalists are equally dangerous.

Pretending that someone's name would draw such parallel without any proof or basis, that's what's more in tune with bigotry and prejudice.

By the virtue of your oppposition to emaam Obama, I declare both of you as RACIST, BIGOT and HATEFUL, period.

So you are judged and it is final. If you don't believe me, just read some of the comments in here.

What did we learn from "emaam" Khomeini's charm in our own country 30 years ago? It seems that we learnt NOTHING. Nothing at all.

It is pathetic and sad. And hopeless too.

With all due respect:

1-If you think the others are not fair, don't be one of them!.Why do you generelize poeple on this site?!.

2-Don't agree with your loose logic of name,it doesnot hold Water;

a-Zendeh Yaad,Ostaad Ebrahim Pourdavoud is the best example,he was Zardushti, but:

Ebrahim & Davoud(both with Semetic language root)are used by Jews,Moslems & Christians,it is not a Persian/Avastan/Zardushti..... name. The only part of his name that doesnot have a Semetic language root is Pour( Son). That doesn't make him a non-zardushti,does it?!.

b-Paul Newman?! A Jewish who was named after an Apostle of Jesus?!.

If you check you'll find many more examples.

My 1st comment to thank You for the support was deleted, So here again , thx again and rest assured that the cameleon opportunist such as Obama has no grand plan but empty elequent rethoric borrowed from leftist propaganda booklets & armed with Acorn fraud machine.and his ideological Ommatist & leftist fans strategy of  It,s racist to question Obama , has worked perfectly. Even the liberal media has bought the flawed argument & will not bring up fundamental flaws in his character such as (Terrorist connection, rev wright, Anti american wife & associates, Joe biden connections to IRI). Why ? Because liberal media is afraid of being tagged racist. What a sorry state . .scare tactics always work  for them..even here as seen later pal.

Dear Bijan,

My last name is Sadegh...but does it mean that I am a moslem? Not really...:-) The choice of my first name, or my last name has not been my own choice.

Each of us, we're more than our names, or our religion.

Please listen to what the man says, not how he has been namded by his parents!..and what he's saying (so eloquently and with so much charcater) doesn't have any hint of "communism" as you think.

My father's best friend was jewish and in his family they had a Hossein and a Abbas that I remember.

Since your introductory sentence was false I didn't find a reason to continue reading.

I always found the name issue puzzling, but I learned a lot of Iranian jews also had muslim names. I remember Amoo ... (I won't say his name) used to say "Alhamdollellaah" and "insha-allah"a lot more pronounced than my own dad ever did.

I won't bombard you with racist remarks.  I will say, however, that your post is full of hate--for everyone.  Couldn't you just make your case without making snide references at fellow users and contributors?  I guess not.  You see, when it's interesting and intelligent analysis of an issue, whether or not the reader agrees with you, you will be read and heard.  When it's all about he said this and she said that, you make your case weak and uninteresting, appearing as an individual who has nothing to say other than to pick on what others have said with originality and courage.  Sorry friend, next time your post would be a no-clicker for me!

what about a Muslim named "Barak" ?

You will get a lot of posts NOT being racist, but calling YOU a racist. The truth is hard to conceal Bijan jan.

"He has no integrity and character"

Must be nice dillusional life just pulling garbage out of thin air. You guys are getting more and more desperate and everyone knows it. I guess the whole "kill him" shouts at campaign events isn't working huh?
