You are all missing the point

 to the 11 trolls who have seized on the wrong point about the hikers. Obviously the fact that they were hiking in a war zone in a border area defies logic and is such an obvious mistake it doesn't bare comment and I did not even attempt to ask them why they were there. Whether they were tortured or not is irrelevant although I wonder who of these armchair critics would survive 14 months in solitary confinement. They weren't talking about themselves or celebrating their media celebrity, they were trying to help the Iranian American community on this tour. The points they made were about the bravery of the Iranian political prisoners all around them in Evin who said this was their form of protest and who tried to comfort the hikers by talking and singing to them through the walls. The point was the kindness of the Iranian people and of the Iranian Americans who offered them sympathy after their release.

to figure out that you did not ALWAYS call these hikers as clueless, and it goes to show your knee-jerk response to anything that has to do with NIAC.  If you assume that what you say in the past is in the past we can make an .......

I could not help finding out whether you ALWAYS called the hikers as clueless, as your response to me suggested.  Here is what I found: From accidental tourists gathering information on Evin (Sep 26) to clueless spoiled brats in this thread!  Any other time you called these hikers as clueless, and was it always "always"?

always said the hikers were clueless.  always said niac/casmii are sandis-khors.  no flip-flopping here.  but it seems that the attendance of these "spoiled brats" at a niac/casmii gig is a feather in the niaci caps. :)

esfand, i think the apologists for iri have to tow the line and say what they are paid to say.  you won't get them to engage in an open, honest and critical manner.  if iri had any evidence that these three were spies, they would have presented it.  end of story.

the ironic part is that these accidental tourists ended up gathering more information, by residing in evin, than they set out on their hike.  also, that none of these apologists want to engage in a conversation about the screams the hikers heard in evin.

Yes, we know how you feel otherwise!

This just reinforces what everyone outside of IC already knew...

...that NIAC is the most respectable Iranian-American organization and that they clearly are not with the regime.

A friend at the event told me that one of the hikers said that they showed up to thank NIAC for all the support they had given to them and their families throughout their ordeal.

That is pretty cool - I dont know any other Iranian-American group that was involved in helping them.

One more reason to be proud of NIAC!

This reminds me of the movie Animal House where the guy says

, " Thank You Sir, May I Have Another!"

That's the passive attitude of these hikers who have seen the wrath of evil IRR and yet they want to take it one more time!

I still say these hikers were reckless and probably dumb to go on hiking at the border of Iran-Iraq, and I do not think that VPK said anything different.  It is just that the same ones who were shedding crocodile tears when these kids were in Evin, turned on them when they showed up at a NIAC function.  And, this turn-around was also seen when Shirin Ebadi or Maziar Bahar..... had a NIAC chat.  That is hypocracy. Don't you think so?

After spending some time in Iranian prison, they probably have their career set for them. There is a good chance that for years, they will want to be associated with Iran for fame, fortune, and if they have real concerns for fate of it. Therefore, don't be surprised to see them in all kinds of Iran related functions.
