The Milgram experiment was a series of social psychology experiments conducted by Yale University psychologist Stanley Milgram, which measured the willingness of study participants to obey an authority figure who instructed them to perform acts that conflicted with their personal conscience. Stanley Milgram (August 15, 1933 – December 20, 1984) was an American social psychologist most notable for his controversial study known as the Milgram Experiment. About The Miligram Experiment:
The Milgram experiment was a series of social psychology experiments conducted by Yale University psychologist Stanley Milgram, which measured the willingness of study participants to obey an authority figure who instructed them to perform acts that conflicted with their personal conscience. Milgram first described his research in 1963 in an article published in the Journal of Abnormal and Social Psychology, and later discussed his findings in greater depth in his 1974 book, Obedience to Authority: An Experimental View.
The experiments began in July 1961, three months after the start of the trial of Nazi war criminal Adolf Eichmann in Jerusalem. Milgram devised his psychological study to answer the question: "Was it that Eichmann and his accomplices in the Holocaust had mutual intent, in at least with regard to the goals of the Holocaust?" In other words, "Was there a mutual sense of morality among those involved?"
This is a piece out of a BBC documentary from May 2009 on aggression.

Indeed Orang Jaan ("I Come Icare" -Henri Verneuil )
by Darius Kadivar on Thu Mar 18, 2010 02:28 AM PDTNo I did not watch it last night cause I don't have Tv but listened to an interview of the producer and he spoke about the Milgram experience which triggered me to post this blog.
It is indeed the same concept and you are quite right about the analogy to the bassijees being conditioned.
But what is very frightening about this experience is that statistically the majority of people that is 9 out of 12 actually are ready to commit the irreparable for the sake of science. In addition most are good and normal people in everyday life.
It say's alot of human nature I am afraid ...
As for the film "I Comme Icare" actually it is not Costa Gavras ( Greek) but Henri Verneuil ( who was Armenian) who directed the film with Yves Montand.

It could have been Gavras though cause he treats similar themes and also made movies with Yves Montand.

Did you send this post because of Fance 2 show tonight ?
They re-use this project as a TV game and analyse TV role for making people to obey!
I'm watching it and thinking that Basigi people are also obeing by this kind of mechanisme.
Actually Costa Gavras also use this idea in his movie I come Icard. Amazing movie.
Take care.
