Red

Red

its warmth surrounds me now

in the confines of the dining room

where companionship grows stronger

as we share a meal at the end of every day

Red

burnt like the earth of the mesas,

dry and soft to the skin, in a valley

of pear cactus and rattlers, south

of the twisted short juniper

and water-thieving cedar

Red

wine flavored with nutty sweet enticings

derived from long-houred picking migrants

housed in shanty shelters in sun-beaten,

cool-breezed Napa valley, in want

of the wine and meat at our table

Red

Our glasses raised, rose petal

aroma alluring a kiss, your fleshy

full-bodied lips like rubies in dirt,

feeling you in my veins,

soothing my longing heart
