They came awfully, awfully close to it. There is still an unexplained incident in early March 1945 - just two months before the fall of Berlin and four months before the Manhattan project successfully detonated their prototype at the Trinity site in Alamagordo, New Mexico.

On March 4, 1945, Clare Werner was standing on
a hillside in Thuringian, Germany. Not too far away was the military
training base near the town of Ohrdruf. Unexpectedly there was
a flash of light. "I suddenly saw something," she said, " ...
it was as bright as hundreds of bolts of lightning, red on the
inside and yellow on the outside, so bright you could've read
the newspaper. It all happened so quickly, and then we couldn't
see anything at all. We just noticed there was a powerful wind..."

Why did Hitler wear a square moustache?

What was with the Roman legion marches and Roma salutes disguised as "Heil"?

It's quite interesting that so many Jews continued to carry German names after WWII.

I guess the Zio-Nazi Jews realized the bible verse: "Out of the ashes we rise"

But the Germans have nice songs up their sleeves for the Zio-Nazi Jews:
