If you were born a decade earlier ...
by Farah Rusta on Sat Sep 12, 2009 06:52 AM PDTYou would have known that the revolution was spearheaded by the student movement. They were the foot soldiers of the Islamic revolution. This is precisely why one of the first acts of "cleansing" by the Islamic regime began on the campuses and faculties of the major universities before they began their parallel cleansing job in the mountains of Kurdistan and among other autonomy seeking ethnicities. Universities were the recruitment grounds for all the major opposition movements and organizations in their struggle against the Shah - something the Islamic regime correctly targetted from its early days to insure its safe passage through the troubled years of the post-revolutionary era.
And please Midwesty you are more intelligent than repeating this meaningless platitude that Soroush only reopened the univeristies!! He and his team-mates indeed reopened the universities but only AFTER having cleansed them from the disagreeable academics and students. They did not re-opened the universities under the same consdition and with the same staff that they had claosed them two days earlier.

Farah,
by Midwesty on Fri Sep 11, 2009 10:33 AM PDTI am not that old to remember the cultural revolution, I remember my cousin was admitted to med school but couldn't attend and he was mad as hell and he had to attend millitary service instead, imagine that. One person by him/herself couldn't cause the cultural revoltion. However I believe he was there to reopen them not to close them. A revolution is a crazy thing, it's a flood, it's blind, it's dumb, it's much like an angry response that later you regret. But it was inevitable and blindly invitable by Shah's cronies.
Anyways, that's why we need evolutions not revolutions. Let's assume that the cultural revolution was not in place, you think students alone could've overthrown the IRI? Don't you think MKO tried and failed miserablly? They were even more organized, more intellectual, smarter, more trained and most imprtantly they were ARMED. Do you know why they failed and student movement would had failed similarly? Because 70-80% of ordinary people were on IRI side. Now it's the opposite. But, hey, they are not for revolution either as some of us wish to.
This is the most improtant part of this equation that we people who live in our glass houses in the west have always forgotten, the ordinary people and what they really want.
Ironically you are right!
by Farah Rusta on Fri Sep 11, 2009 09:34 AM PDTMidwesty:"but I think, what we like to call the green movement
nowadays, owes him a lot."
Was it not for Soroush's closing-to-cleans-then-reopening of the universities, the majority of the present generation of students who were killed, beaten, raped and tortured had no cause to take to the streets and call: Death to Dictator. Had the universities not been academically cleansed, the students and their teachers would have brought the regime down to its knees decades ago but thanks to Dr Soroush, the univesities were relatively calm for 2 to 3 decades and only recently did their clean environment become polluted by impure thoughts.
So thanks to Dr Soroush for making the academic tyranny last this long.

Islamists banding together
by Fred on Fri Sep 11, 2009 05:08 AM PDTAin’t it surprising the Islamist “brothers” patting one another on the back and banding together. Instead of all these nonsense Islamist machinations the rabid Islamists would do themselves some good to answer the question posed in the blog.
Q,
by Midwesty on Fri Sep 11, 2009 05:00 AM PDTI agree with you. I always try to give him a benefit of doubt however he repeatedly but unknowlingly has shown very clear signs of his true motivation. Thanks brother!
Bye!

games
LOL! Have you read your own writing lately? It's like a maze of nonsense and vague generalizations sprinkled with a healthy dose of religious bigotry.
Better irrelevent, then a stooge of foreign-devised intervention in one's own country (that's Iran, in my case.)
Waning relevance of Islamists
by Fred on Fri Sep 11, 2009 04:05 AM PDTAs said the aged Islamists in their advanced years have nothing left but playing head games that might fool some gullible and nothing else. Bye bye Islamists.
I love how defensive you get Fred jan!
by Q on Fri Sep 11, 2009 03:54 AM PDTI love how defensive you get about a country you really care about. About Iran, however, you follow the AIPAC line with genocidal sanctions, a call you have repeated almost weekly now.
It's great that you reveal so much about yourself when you think you're being rhetorically clever. The only saddle around here is on your back, dear "Irandoost", and I'm not touching it!

BYe-bye rabid Islamists

Pity the Zionists...
by Q on Fri Sep 11, 2009 01:52 AM PDTfor they shall inherit nothing.
They have never liked it when their game is exposed, so it is natural to see the most venemous personal attacks follow such exposition.
Among all the absurd crap, and character assasination, the point made of course has not even been disputed, and it is crucial: There's no kind of Muslim you can be. Just like other genocidal colonialists used to say "the only good Indian is a dead Indian", so our equally disturbed Zionist activists say about Muslims (and his buddys back home about Palestinians). The point is, it doesn't matter. You can be pro-regime, anti-regime, pro-reform, anti-reform, it doesn't matter. You're guilty of "Islamism" by mis-name, and "terrorism" by purposeful slander, for the crime of "breathing while Muslim." This is now undisputable, and I hope young Iranians everywhere take note.
It is hard being old, rabidly Islamist and realizing that the entire world has found out what Islamists do and hiding behind Islamic religion would not do any more.
In fact it has been strenghthened. That's how it usually ends up and this time is no different.
Our self proclaimed "Pro AIPAC" friend, like the others before him, may now think about getting another fake name soon... if not him, at least his bosses. No one is buying this anymore.
:)
Pity the Islamists
by Fred on Fri Sep 11, 2009 01:27 AM PDTThe Islamists/Anti-Semites and their likeminded lefty allies including aged Islamist wedding photographers deserve all the pity in the world.
The rabid Islamists are exposed for what and who they are, there is nothing left for them to do except disappearing and crawling back into their hate filled holes.
Their Islamist Rapist republic has been exposed for the murdering rapist entity which it has always been.
Time is nearing for the Iranians, the world and most importantly Muslims to pick up the pieces and begin to repair the tremendous damage the rabid Islamists have left behind.
It is hard being old, rabidly Islamist and realizing that the entire world has found out what Islamists do and hiding behind Islamic religion would not do any more.
What is left for the aged rabid Islamists in their waning years is to play head games with the vulnerable and not much more.
typical two-faced hypocrisy,
by Q on Thu Sep 10, 2009 09:15 PM PDTMidwesty jan,
I wouldn't waste my time with this character. Our AIPAC loving "sanctions NOW!" misguided kalimi friend has been crying foul for years asking for well known Muslims to do what Soroosh just did. Now that it happened, he's crying even more. Soroosh is guilty of one thing: being Muslim. Political stance or prudence or humanity is not important. Dont' be fooled by this "Islamist" or "political Islam" made up crap. These are just excuses for hate. These people just hate Islam itself and individual Muslims. So long as you are one, you are guilty.

I hope no need to mention
by Midwesty on Thu Sep 10, 2009 01:18 PM PDTI hope no need to mention that the I in "I let you both speak" is a hypothetical person. That's your opinion, and I respect it but I don't agree with it. Making one own's destiny is not a new concept either. The humanisim in 19th century is the prime example of it. This discussion even dates back much longer than 19th century.
Rock solid
by Fred on Thu Sep 10, 2009 11:21 AM PDT“I don't know. I don't know if you are right either but as a rule of thumb I hear both of you and I let both of you speak.”
No one needs any one's largess and can talk freely only thanks to Democracy which unlike those who subscribing to cyclic theory and surrendering to someone else's mandated destiny is rock solid in its foundation and empowers people to make their own destinies without any back and forth cyclic thing about it.
I get that
by Midwesty on Thu Sep 10, 2009 10:41 AM PDTanother disaster that you mentioned is another religious governance. If so, I believe that is our destiny that neither you or I can change it. This goes back to a very old phylosophical difference that have existed as long as human race been there. There is no solution to it. People are cyclical about it and tend to fluctuate from one to another. They go from religious government to secular and visa versa. This is not because they get tired of one but because they are tuning theses two philosophycal outlook to be united. Soroosh thinks that he is doing just that. I don't know. I don't know if you are right either but as a rule of thumb I hear both of you and I let both of you speak. This is the beauty of democracy that will make us closer in long term. All branches of science are on the verge of convergence so are all school of thoughts in phylosophy (comprising of human sceinces and politics).
Pied piper
by Fred on Thu Sep 10, 2009 10:24 AM PDTOf course Soroosh is the tone deaf Islamists’ pied piper and they happily follow wherever his tune takes them. For others his new tune is warning of yet another disaster in the making.

Hanging Soroosh
by Fred on Thu Sep 10, 2009 09:12 AM PDTThen why ever bother to change the Islamist Rapist Republic, the Islamists and their revolutionary courts are doing just fine and kill people as any other bloodthirsty would want to.
Enough of killing and hating people and their personal religious belief. Let civility and freedom reign. No more Islamist-like savagery.
Sorosh must be hanged as well !

Iranian must unit one with another and create a National Democratic Republic party NOW !
