blind patriotism need constant validation and reinforcement to provide a sense of stability and security.

Astute observation, which usually goes undiscussed  and unnoticed but it's a huge factor. Many support the regime only for that reason alone. As we witnessed here in the US after 9/11. Many democrats  voted for  Bush only because he was a stronger candidate in keeping them safe from external threats of terrorism, and would not stop at anything even war to keep the country secure. It was a trick used by Hitler et al. Hitler's chief propagandist said, " Naturally the common people don't want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, it is the leaders of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship.

Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. We are witnessing a few, seemingly intelligent and educated , individuals be indifferent to crimes committed against their own people by the STATE, which they justify/rationalize, or deny the occurance of them. Some go an step further and cheer the rapists on. Often the rationale is that there are exogenous enemies, therefore, the correct stance would be to support the STATE; after all, it's the STATE that has the responsibility of defending the nation.

Other than mental disorders(putting it mildly), my explanation would be they benefit from the status quo in various ways; it does not need to be financial benefit. Ideaoligical attachment, political affiliation, and blind patriotism need constant validation and reinforcement to provide a sense of stability and security.

In the final analysis, they are insignificant. Dictators fall. If people get their hands on bigger fish who sold them out, they will dish out the "revolutionary" justice in a frenzy. Right or wrong, we have seen this before.

For most Islamists who are

For most Islamists who are naturally and inherently , immoral, unethical, racists and bigotted, and they believe in their Superiority over all others (dar-al-harb vs dar-al-Islam) , the end justifies the means. Pendar Nik is exhibit number one.

On the other hand, no matter what the reward, a leftist would keep true to his/her values which include social justice. Ergo, a "lefty" you are not.
