Earlier today, at 4:20 am est, Fardin MASOUMI of IRAN beat Steve MOCCO of USA in the super heavy weight division (120 kg) of free-style wrestling.
Because he had one loss earlier to the Russian, Bakhtiyar AKHMEDOV , he will be wrestling for the Bronze Medal instead. His Bronze Medal Match will be at 7:10 am est against Marid MUTALIMOV of Kazaghstan.
If he wins the Bronze Medal, I would have a full report later - Hope you enjoy this match:

Dear Friends
by Haj Seyd Mammad on Thu Aug 21, 2008 11:07 PM PDTFirst, let me thank you for all the kind words that you left.
Secondly, unfortunately, Fardin MASOUMI was not able to win his Bronze Medal Match, and was placed fourth.
As someone who loves Wrestling, especially free-style, my hopes are that the authorities in Iran would set aside the necessary resources for our athletes to do better in the future. I can remember our great Wrestling Teams in the 1960's and 70's which won the World Championship. Those older than us also remember our great westling teams of the 1950's with our hero Gholamreza Takhti being part of it.
We finished the Olympics with only one Bronze Medal in the 60 kg category won by Seyed Morad Mohammadi. In my opinion, this is far from the Glory Days of our Wrestling History. This is not really our athletes' fault. Again, the authorities in Iran should see to it that more resources are provided to them.
Let's hope for a better future for our Sports in Iran
the divine hand
by Parthian on Thu Aug 21, 2008 10:29 PM PDTOur greatest president, and hero of the masses has mentioned that Imam Mehdi's little 9 year old divine hand is intervening in every affair of the world. This is no credit to the Iranians, but the medal should be given to a little 9 year old arab boy who is invisible. I am sure his hand had something to do with this match going in favor of the muslims against this kafar.
Iran beats US in one event and loses in 10000 other events
by Amir Nasiri (not verified) on Thu Aug 21, 2008 07:52 PM PDTWho cares? Good for him he probably one the second medal for Iran.
Have you looked at the score board US is leading in the medal collections and Iran with 5000 years of histor only wins 2.
Do you know why? It is because everyone here is given an opportunity despite, of color, race, gender, age or sexual orientation. The US swimmer who was over 40 years old and one a gold medal. They not give people the chance but they also provide the resources and the facilities for everyone to use and take advantage.
In USA if you have the will you will win.
I say that with envy and jealousy but that is the truth.
IRI has done nothing for us and we are moving more backward everyday.
Olympics: IRAN beats USA, If he wins....

good match
by manesh on Thu Aug 21, 2008 10:27 AM PDTThis was a nice match-up. The American was in great shape but Masoumi was a better wrestler overall. This is unusual because typically the Iranian runs out of gas and gets the calls going against him. In this case, he held up and had a crucial call go for him late in 2nd period.
What happened to American wrestling? It has slipped farther than even the Iranian program.
Thanks

It is good to see we have finally found a few heavy weights in Iranian Wrestling. The light weight has always been our strenght and heavy weight the weakness.
Hopefully he will win the next one and get a Medal.
Thanks
