Los Angeles, April 17, 2012 – Iranian Alliances Across Borders (IAAB) is excited to announce Camp Javan, the first leadership camp of its kind for rising sixth through eighth graders. Camp Javan will take place at Palisades Charter High school, Los Angeles, CA, from July 16th – July 20th, 2012.
Camp Javan has the dual mission of empowering campers with a deeper understanding of culture and identity as youth within the Iranian diaspora and equipping campers with the skills to be leaders in their communities. Campers will participate in community building activities, cultural and artistic workshops, and critical discussions aimed to help them respond to issues they see affecting middle school students within the Iranian American community. In collaboration with peers and older mentors, Javan participants will also acquire the tools to navigate the academic, extracurricular, and social aspects of middle school and prepare for the transition to high school and beyond.
“I am eager to see how the themes from IAAB’s educational policy take shape with a new audience, ” said Aida Sadr-Kiani, Camp Director. “Middle school students, with their readiness to ask ‘so what?’ in the face of reasoning, will not take IAAB’s mission of strengthening the Iranian Diaspora for granted; their concern with daily life will inspire the organization to pinpoint the concrete value of our work.”
As a non-political and non-religious camp, Camp Javan is open to all races and creeds. The Iranian diaspora community is diverse and vibrant, a characteristic that Camp Javan represents, embraces, and celebrates.

To "DoNotShootMe" ... I partially agree with you
by kuroshmazandrani on Tue May 08, 2012 06:12 PM PDTHopefully Iranian.com is coming to the realization (maybe "realization" is not the right word) that a lot of people pretending to be Iranians and people that have ill-intentions for Iran are posting on this site. Seriously, there are fewer Iranians here than you would think.
But A BIG BIG BIG BIG BIG THANK YOU for realizing that; I am glad you noticed it.
Want to know how I found my way to this site? I'll tell you. There are Iranian groups on Facebook protesting this site (I swear) and they have tens of thousands of members (some of whom have come from here). They're just normal people, and they are disgusted and ashamed at how the site has been run.

hehe
What assurances can you give parents ...
by kuroshmazandrani on Tue May 08, 2012 05:34 PM PDTWhat assurances can you give parents that the people working there aren't Mujahedeen-e Khalgh followers or recruiters for the Bahai's or some other groups that parents don't want targetting their kids?
It's a serious question given the US government is allowing every type of person hostile to Iran to spill into America and it's now becoming a mish-mash.
Thanks for your response.
