Throughout the Middle East, the highest growth of Internet users took place in Iran. (GFX: The number of Internet users increased 29 times between 2000-'05) But with that growth, came the government's crackdown on cyberspace, especially bloggers.
Farnaz Seify, Popular Iranian blogger: "I tell you blogosphere is not a safe place. There have been cases in which the government had arrested some bloggers."
Despite such heavy control of cyberspace, 7.2 million Iranians remain hooked on the Internet and nearly 400,000 Persian blogs are still active.
To help keep those blogs alive, the new multimedia news website IranVNC monitors and archives them, in cooperation with Stanford University and the Library of Congress. And then posts their URL in this Blog Watch segment.
IranVNC Blog Watch is a unique source capturing the bloggers' pulse on Iranian culture and people. Email your blog posting to: blog@IranVNC.com
