Hi Everyone,
It appears iranian.com has survived Tuesday's crash relatively unscathed. After a good verbal spanking of the company that provides our server, we were told the next day that our data had been recovered.
Kayvan, Foaad and Hamid spent a lot of hours, at odd hours, to take that recovered data and... don't ask! I don't understand these technical things very well and I'm just happy things are back to normal.
I felt a huge loss when I first heard an entire month's worth of content had been wiped out. The memory of so many wonderful features, blogs, comments... were fresh in my mind. I felt terribly sorry for the contributors who had worked hard to produce something special and were then left with a blank page.
But all is ok now. Your babies are back. The only casualties were a few blogs from Wednesday which I was not able to recover.
Thank you for being so patient and understanding.
Love
j

by Natalia Alvarado-Alvarez on Sun Nov 15, 2009 08:30 AM PSTYolanda,
How tragic! Another young soul has been pulled into this iranian.com vortex.
Ah, MPD and I knew her well. When there was still hope for Yolandita. lol
:o)
Maybe we can make some kind of recovery group for us addicted to this web site. Hmmm What would we call it?

by capt_ayhab on Sat Nov 14, 2009 08:12 AM PSTThis morning I experienced a strange issue.
In past 2 days I have started using Google Chrome as my browser. This morning when I tried logging into IC the screen would just refresh with log on screen without any error message.
First I thought my account be compromised, but when I tried to log on using Mozilla, everything was ok. I thought of bring this to your attention.

thanks,
Spell cheker is a must.
by pedro on Sat Nov 14, 2009 07:40 AM PSTLooking at the overwhelming respnse and thank you notes, I'm begining to suspect that you guys (Admin) just tunned off the key on site, to see if vieweres and blogers will panic, and just to see how important is Iranian.com to them!
Just kidding!!
It happened, and yes we all panicked. Thanks again for the opportunity that enables us to click and see, click and read, and to click and write ( with a few misspelings ofcourse! ).

This point #2 brought up by Onlyiran happens to me. Please fix it JJ. I am talking about (as Onlyiran writes):".. some kind of a safeguard to keep the comments in case the "back" or "forward" arrows (on the browser) are clicked. Currently, if that is done accidentally, the entire comment will be lost;.."

by Onlyiran on Fri Nov 13, 2009 07:02 AM PSTI think now is a good time to suggest a few upgrades:
1) spell checker for comments for people like me who can't spell;
2) some kind of a safeguard to keep the comments in case the "back" or "forward" arrows (on the browser) are clicked. Currently, if that is done accidentally, the entire comment will be lost;
3) I am still getting advertising banners over the "edit" tab on blogs and on articles themselves. I emailed you about it a couple of weeks ago.
Thanks again.

by yolanda on Thu Nov 12, 2009 10:39 PM PSTThank you for restoring the system so swiftly. Thank you so much!! Next time, if you announce there is a catastrophic failure, I am not going to believe you and I am not going to stress out either. I feel like I have been immunized this time and I have faith in IC. Thank God for IC, I got my daily education here, :O)! I went to Aspen, Colorado (7700ft elevation) for 4 days in August, I blogged from there 'cause I did not want to miss out any "actions" and I do have an affinity for IC!
Wow! Your guys are amazing you have made the impossible possble. You restored the system in 48 hours! Please accept my salute!

Dear Jahanshah
by Passing Through on Thu Nov 12, 2009 08:25 PM PSTI do appreciate everyone's efforts in first recovering, and then restoring the system
To be honest, when I first heard of the news regarding the loss of data, I had somewhat of a sinking feeling
In the past month, there have been a number of extremely interesting and constructive blogs: From Imal Imani's blog on the International Day Of Cyrus The Great; to the blogs regarding Shamlou and Khayyam; and of course, many more
In several of these blogs, there have been vigorous and very constructive debates regarding the future of our Beloved Iran - I must say that I participated in a number of them, and throughly enjoyed it
Anyway, I am truly glad that All Is Well Now .. Please Say Thanks On Our Behalf To The Rest Of The Team,
Sincerely,
PT
Thank you.

Last night, I felt like I was stood up, by an old lover!
I was willing to pay whatever membership price, it was required, to get the site back up.
Glad to see everything is back to normal.
I suggest you leave the "Donate to Iranian.com" botton up - where it is dameh dast- so those of us who get haalee-beh-haalee - could readily donate to our favorite site.
Thank You
