This is my third week in Chile and every day there's a new delightful experience. A lot of it has to do with being a tourist: you go to the best places a country has to offer and it's rare if you aren't awed, impressed or entertained. But the Chileans themselves are truly some of the nicest, helpful, no non-sense people I have encountered. The mild, sunny weather and constant blue skies this time of the year (it's spring here) helps lift the general mood too. [see photo essay]
Here are some of my clips to give you a little sense and feel for Chile:
1- A group of young musicians walked into a working-class restaurant near Santiago's Estación Central and started to play a cheerful song. Patrons obliged and started to dance:
2- Dance group entertaining a crowd in Plaza de Armas, in the center of the city:
3- Two street comedians doing a funny act. I don't speak Spanish so how do I know they were funny? Just watch the crowd reaction:

So JJJ should we send you a new camera?
by Esfand Aashena on Tue Nov 15, 2011 04:53 AM PSTJJJ I thought we send you to these places to travel the world so that in return you could send us photpgraphic reports with photos and clips!
I don't recall we ever approved BW photography! This is unacceptable! If you have damaged the camera we can send you another one but PLEASE, no more BW!
Everything is sacred
B & W
by Jahanshah Javid on Tue Nov 15, 2011 04:13 AM PSTThanks for your comments. The B & W effect is accidental. I don't know what I've done to the camera that it isn't filming in color :)

BB, Pisco Sour is pretty nice. It's similar to a margarita.
Yes, will go to Peru too at some point.

AO, dude, no worries. I'm never "away". I work on iranian.com every day, no matter where I may be.

Chileans still carry the scars of the Pinochet years. But they are moving on with a conscious respect for human rights and active participation in the democratic process.
Good For You,
by Piyalechi on Mon Nov 14, 2011 07:55 PM PSTJJ Jaan.
I'm glad to see you're having fun.
Tell us a bit about the cost of things as you've experienced so far.
Also, is that a special setting in your camera that takes B&W photography but allows the green to come through? it's cool!
Noush...
Why is this in black and white?
by Esfand Aashena on Mon Nov 14, 2011 04:28 PM PSTI liked the 2nd clip (the group dancing) but your BW effe ruined it! There are some street dancers in Iran too but not as free!
For the love of sholehzard please don't post any BW photo essay if you're going to!
Everything is sacred
Thank you for sharing.
by comments on Mon Nov 14, 2011 02:31 PM PSTDoes videos imply that people in Chile are prosperous, satisfied and in high spirit? Perhaps, it might be the time to immigrate to Chile. Let's see food photos then answer the question:)

what would Chileans do?
by Anahid Hojjati on Mon Nov 14, 2011 01:28 PM PSTJahanshah, Have you had a chance to discuss Iran's situation with Chileans? since they used to be under a dictatorship, I am interested to know their opinions about how Iranian people can achieve democracy.
How did you go back in time?
by bahmani on Mon Nov 14, 2011 01:17 PM PSTWas this shot in the 1960's when YouTube was not in color? :)
Wonderful shots, I knew you would love it.
After you settle a bit, bust over to Peru and hit Machu Picchu!
Do a video of you having a properly made Pisco Sour!

Photos coming soon
by Jahanshah Javid on Mon Nov 14, 2011 05:50 AM PSTThanks Nazy! I'm working on the photo essay. Coming soon.
The food is good, especially if you are a big meat eater. And they love hot dogs, which come with lots of different meats and toppings. I haven't dared to have one, yet. Still careful about my calorie intake :)
Cooool!
by Nazy Kaviani on Mon Nov 14, 2011 05:12 AM PSTI loved watching these clips, Jahanshah! The people seem really warm and spontaneous in simple joys. We don't see much of that in these parts, people breaking into a dance and people gathering in the middle of the day to be entertained and to laugh together. What's the food like? Any photos of their produce market? Thanks for sharing. Enjoy your time!
