The first time I came across "Buddha-Bar" was in a Facebook event invitation a few months ago. It was only a split second before I deleted it, but the name stuck. Then in April I was in Washington and a branch opened right next to my daughter's apartment building. The signature decoration makes you feel like you are inside a temple with a giant statue of Buddha -- just add a bar and dining tables. It's sort of an upscale P.F. Chang, the upscale Chinese restaurant chain in the U.S.
When I was in Nice last week, I got invited to a party at the Buddha-Bar in Monte-Carlo, about half an hour's drive away >>> Photo essay

BTW
We have a very talented DJ / Producer, a young and upcoming fellow by the name of Omid Mahramzadeh he goes by (Promid) he creates wonderful chill out music in the lines of Buddha Bar and his work has also been featured on the BBC Asian network, you may want to dig him up and do an article on him. A sample of one of his mixes called: Leave It All Behind

Press card?
by Jahanshah Javid on Fri Aug 13, 2010 12:35 AM PDTISK, no one stopped me from taking pictures inside or outside. I think the fact that I didn't use a flash helped.
JJ, forged Press card is not ethical
by i_support_khamenie on Thu Aug 12, 2010 10:16 PM PDTI can assure everyone that under no circumstances will the staff nor the manager permit anyone from just walking around and talking pictures because they are "tourists." It would be a jungle if that was allowed.
The only way, is if the cameraman says it is for a "social" website and "we're doing an article on you."
Even then some managers, especially British ones, will not let you in. The only way is something like forged CNN, BBC, Russia Today, Fashion TV Press cards....which is not so difficult to forge and more importantly these managers don;t have the security background to know if they are fake or not.
Ofcourse, JJ might have "found" the Press card of a fellow journalist long time ago and might be using it.
It doesn't hurt especially if you have forged Press card from Zagat Restaurant Survey, you get to eat and dine for FREE.
Buddha Bar Music

NICE share JJ…cheers ;)
by 13th Legion on Thu Aug 12, 2010 06:24 PM PDTI had heard of the famous Buddha Bar Lounge Restaurant in Paris and had always wanted to visit this place, but no such luck yet, I am very much into this Lounge restaurant seen all though one can find similar hang out in NYC and SF they are hard to come by in the U.S., infarct for those who did not know this is where the famous “Buddha Bar Lounge music” CD completions originated from, the compilation CD’s are often made up by the DJ’s that perform at the Buddha Bar and then marketed in the Music industry in CD and now days MP3 format under: Buddha bar I, Buddha Bar II,…..IV, these CD’s normally come in a set of 2, one side is made up of faster electronic music compilations from around the world that is played during the lounge hours and the 2nd CD is softer electronic compilations played during dinning and dinner hours. I am sure you may have also enjoyed the music JJ.
We use to have s few DJ’s in IRAN during the 1970’s that did the something similar, they were called “Aali Ghaphoo” and were located in the “Bazar e Safavieh” mall on Pahlavi St., these guys made up the best mix of the latest western music compilations on cassette tape and sold them as series by numbers like (121), (122), (123) and had a very popular following among the young and cool hipsters of the time, the story was that they had a deal with air line pilots that traveled abroad and would give a list or tell them purchase and bring back the latest music on each trip…..perhaps some will have memories of this.
Thank you for sharing this event JJ, we not only got to see what the inside of the Buddha Bar looks like; it also brought back great memories.
Cheers.
Nah...
by Jahanshah Javid on Thu Aug 12, 2010 05:57 PM PDT... pretty mild.
JJ, still....
by Monda on Thu Aug 12, 2010 05:55 PM PDTthe misuse of Buddha's name feels sacrilegious! (was it spicy enough?)

Coconut
by Jahanshah Javid on Thu Aug 12, 2010 05:48 PM PDTMonda, that coconut had Thai shrimp curry inside it :)
Great concept
by Monda on Thu Aug 12, 2010 05:40 PM PDTHere and Now brings nice business... Monte Carlo caters to chains now?! huh! But Honestly JJ, there is definitely something wrong with using Buddha's name in vain, it really does feel sacrilegious ...
I especially like the presentation of that coconut soup.
یادت نرود ... :)
