This is only a preliminary report on last night's comedy show: "There are no Gays in Iran" in San Francisco's Cafe du Nord Swedish American Hall. See photo essay.
The show exceeded my expectations in every respect. Conclusions:
* Mehran Khaghani is an absolute super star; hilarious, charming, full of energy. Have no doubt he's going to be in big shows and sitcoms and movies in coming years, and you'll love him.
* Amir Malekpour breaks out of his shy self and exposes his personal exploits in the most endearing way. His sweet smile is contagious. You can't help loving him.
* Tissa Hami is amazing. I had not seen her perform after she did stand-up for an iranian.com show in 2004. And boy she has really mastered her craft in recent years. Funny, confident, delivers punch-lines after punch-line. The green scarf was a nice touch :)
* Max Amini... what a pro. Made the audience laugh the loudest. He's a natural entertainer. A comic who never disappoints.
The venue was elegant and cozy. The audience was wonderful and engaging.
Just a fantastic night. See photo essay
A great thanks to Monda for organizing the entire program on her own. You made a lot of people happy.

by Monda on Sun Apr 18, 2010 08:54 AM PDTYou're very welcome JJ jan. I hope the other fans of your site plan some events in their home towns. Very simply done, really.
Thanks
by tissa on Sun Mar 14, 2010 04:51 PM PDTThanks to everyone who came to the show! You were a superb audience, and you made my job a pleasure.
It was superb!
by sima on Sun Mar 14, 2010 10:55 AM PDTWhat amazing talent. Mehran of course is irresistable, fresh and hilarious. Amir has his persona down and he's the type to make you crack up just looking at him standing there on the stage, appearing to stumble over his words. Tissa is totally brilliant, super funny and sharp. And Max is just a ball of fire, spitting out electrifyingly funny sparks. His Esfahani accent is impeccable and an extra bonus that the non-Iranians missed!
Thanks Monda jan, you did a fantastic job. It was just as nice to see your pretty face on that stage!
I love his translations of kooni = assi as in ass heritage!
by Anonymouse on Sun Mar 14, 2010 08:57 AM PDTAnd koondeh = just goes around and gives ass for no good reason or no reason at all! Just gives or distributes ass!
Everything is sacred.

Did Mehran translate what we call gays?!
by Anonymouse on Sat Mar 13, 2010 04:23 PM PSTDid Mehran have his routine about for a country that doesn't have any gays we sure have a lot of names for them?! I love that part and think the way he translates the names in proper English is hilarious!
Everything is sacred.
