While working on the new version of iranian.com, which should be up and running by the end of this summer, I thought of trying something new.
The film strip on top of the front page gets fresh content every 24 hours or so. The seven boxes are usually linked to pages with youtube videos about subjects ranging from politics to culture to plain goofiness.
But many new and interesting videos show up almost every hour and it would be wrong to wait 24 hours to show them to you.
From today the far-right box on the film strip will be reserved for the latest video clips we can find, but they will be featured on the front page only for an hour or two. The best of these clips will be re-featured in one of the other boxes for the usual 24-hour period so more people can see them.
I for one can't wait 24 hours to see something fresh. I don't think you can either. So keep your eyes open for that corner box on the right for the freshest, hottest clips.
Let's see how it works out.
Enjoy!

Red for "Hot"
by Hafez for Beginners on Sun May 01, 2011 09:54 PM PDT"Fresh and Hot" takes me to bread... "Fresh, hot bread."
"Box 7": On a serious note, I went to the front page to see what constructive comment would come to me - and I did want to throw in a suggestion of a graphic ploy from those of us who are more visual: The other boxes all have a blue surrounding margin - you might want to give box 7 a Red one? or another color? Just something that will at first glance, let folks know that box 7 is a different category to the rest. I hope that helps.
"New" version of Iranian.com: A side-bar regarding the "new" version of Iranian.com: There are "Bloggers" who are only "commentators" - who leave comments all over the site - but very, very rarely post a Blog of their own. Some have only one or two Blogs in total. Maybe a new Blogger needs to have posted at least 5 Blogs before being given the "commentator only" privilege? Our community lends itself very well to saying stuff, forming judgements, etc. without actually standing for/doing anything. This might also help in maintaining a more constructive level of discourse. With respect,
Afsaneh
I lke the Idea, Call it Fresh Clips from living in the Past...
by amirparvizforsecularmonarchy on Sun May 01, 2011 03:48 PM PDTI'm looking for the clip that shows Nader Shah, defeating Napoleon in 1933. Man were we a great country!
If only is wasn't for those sneeky Japanese that took Afghanistan from us and the wealth of the Kurdish Lands there.

by comments on Sun May 01, 2011 02:27 PM PDTIt was so funny. Please wake me up then. Time goes fast:)
After now I am only the fan of right box. The disadvantage is that I am not able to keep track of everything in Iranian.com any more.
Very amusing!

PFFFTTTIDI!
by ComraidsConcubine on Sun May 01, 2011 08:41 AM PDTThat's just great. Now I have an excuse for hanging around here 24/7 with my addiction being fed. PFFFT! (What time is it in Iran?)
Btw, about funds. This certainly isn't an original idea, but a lot of papers and mags charge a minimal fee for reading articles, listening to an entire song etc.. Can't you pay something like an honorary flat fee for all to avoid squabbles( I dunno, something like $50) to SOME of your contributors for (temporary) exclusives, I mean the few good, professional ones, obviously not the daily trash, and charge let's say $1.00 per article, song, art album etc. following a teazer?
It would kill several birdies with one stone: improve the quality of content (by George, that really is needed), readership, comments, better advertising (none for paid for special features) and more money in the kitty.
I'd charge those bloggers who do nothing but constantly advertise their own products as well.
Thanks but..
by Bunyip on Sun May 01, 2011 04:15 AM PDTThanks JJ, but I live at the bottom of the world with a massive time difference, and I'd be pi..ed off if I miss an interesting film strip. So, will these "temporarily honoured" film strips be accessible in an archived file somewhere in your vault within Iranian.com?
Nevertheless, love Iranian.com anyway.
PS- I agree with Samsam III, is there anyway to censor/ cleanse "all non-related comments to get the bikaars off the subjects".
Yeah Just Make Sure to Call it "The kuleshov expirimental" blog
by Darius Kadivar on Sun May 01, 2011 02:00 AM PDTThe Kuleshov Effect is a film editing (montage) effect demonstrated by Russian filmmaker Lev Kuleshov in the 1910s and 1920s
Kuleshov Effect - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
KULECHOV MADE THREE SHORT FILMS FEATURING A NEUTRAL FACIAL EXPRESSION ON AN ACTOR AFTER SHOWING A DEAD WOMAN, A DISH OF SOUP OR A SEXY CLUB DANCER. THE AUDIENCE THOUGHT THE ACTOR WAS SAD IN THE FIRST, THOUGHTFUL IN THE SECOND, AND HAPPY IN THE THIRD. IT'S ALL ABOUT CONTEXT.
