I was driving through Nevada and Oregon towards Weiser, Idaho, yesterday [phot essay: "Lad of the free"]. In a tiny "town" called Rome (I mean really tiny... there were only a few shacks), I stopped by a farm where there were a couple of horses. I walked towards one of them which was closer to the fence. I tried to lure him with a shrub and this is what happened :)))

Well, you kind of deserved it
by Anonymous Observer on Mon Jul 04, 2011 06:20 PM PDTafter annoying the poor animal by shoving that piece of grass up its nose. Next time try fruit to lure horses. They love it as a treat. Also, was that a mchine gun burst in the background as you were trying to pet the horse?!!!!
BTW JJ, the last few seconds of the video reminded me of some of the users on your site. :-)))

I was thinking of getting another tattoo last month. I chickened out!
I Get Them
by Piyalechi on Mon Jul 04, 2011 01:28 PM PDTEmail alerts from your site all the time, JJ, and have been getting them I guess since you started sending them!
I don't know how I missed the 2008 photo essay of your Blue Whale Tattoo. Then again, so much goes by me all the time without me noticing.
Life is just so wonderfully full of things, events, and emails that there is no way and not enough time to attend to them all.
Thanks for the link. It’s a cool tattoo. I have a feeling that just like me you are also a single tattoo owner. When I got mine, it hurt so &%@# much that I was certain that was going to be my “daf’eye aval o akhar!”
On another note JJ, as you know very well, I and you are soul brothers.
Adjust your Tom Tom to bring you through Augusta, Georgia
way. You can stay at our house and save the hotel money, and we can hang out and chat a little bit.
There is plenty here to take pictures of too. Or you can just give the camera a rest and have some Southern Sweet Iced Tea with us.

Are you
by Veiled Prophet of Khorasan on Mon Jul 04, 2011 06:50 AM PDTsure it was Rome and not Qum?
We need more blogs like this
by Anahid Hojjati on Mon Jul 04, 2011 05:41 AM PDTWe needed that after all discussion about "mossadegh kee bood?". 133 comments about someone who died more than 40 years ago and almost all people agree that he was a good guy. Now this horse thing is a new subject which we need to explore with help of Faramarz.
The Horse Whisperer!
by Faramarz on Mon Jul 04, 2011 05:37 AM PDTI think that the horse was not quite sure what JJ’s intentions were and was trying to understand his true feelings.
Was he just a Big City guy, a world traveler who is passing through town and wanted to have some fun for the night, or was there something more noble and permanent there? After all, she already has Billy Bob who brings her carrots and sugar cubes on Saturday nights!
But at the end when she turned the other way and wiggled her tail she gave a signal that she was willing to risk it all and follow his every wish! But is he going to love and respect her in the morning?
Please promise to write to her and send her postcards!

by Anahid Hojjati on Mon Jul 04, 2011 12:01 AM PDTLet's hope PETA does not see this blog :).
JJ, I apologize in advance, but this remark:
by Reality-Bites on Sun Jul 03, 2011 11:56 PM PDT"....I stopped by a farm where there were a couple of horses. I walked towards one of them which was closer to the fence. I tried to lure him with a shrub and this is what happened :)))...."
makes you sound like a horse molester! :)
horses are like some women
by Anahid Hojjati on Sun Jul 03, 2011 11:50 PM PDTthey don't show any attention to a guy until they see other females show him attention, then suddenly the guy becomes hot. what you needed was to first show attention to another horse and then you would have seen this horse to be much more friendly.
You Are Right JJ
by Faramarz on Sun Jul 03, 2011 08:14 PM PDTYou went through the south-east corner of Oregon for a few minutes to get to Idaho, where horses are not friendly and goats are nervous!
Highway 95
by Jahanshah Javid on Sun Jul 03, 2011 08:00 PM PDTFaramarz... where are you looking? I went from Reno to Weiser on Highway 95. My TomTom GPS knows best :)
........
by yolanda on Sun Jul 03, 2011 07:59 PM PDTA beautiful horse with glowing skin (fur?)! The horse was just a little apathetic......not too bad.......I thought the horse bit you, kicked you, or dropped a load on you......none of those things happened!
I noticed that your hand still has some baby fat! LOL!
why was I expecting this to be something like this
by Mash Ghasem on Sun Jul 03, 2011 08:41 PM PDT//www.youtube.com/watch?v=_MjPtem6ZbE
And all I see is a horse's ass!
I like Faramrz' scenario though. Can you recite some Kerouac while being attacked by an agitated bull?
Going East through Oregon!
by Faramarz on Sun Jul 03, 2011 07:31 PM PDTSo I looked at the map and drew a line from the Bay Area to the East Coast and it did not go anywhere near Oregon! Also there are no roads that connect Oregon to Nevada, unless you go to Idaho and then track back to Nevada!
Which reminds of the train ride that JJ took from Rome to Budapest that went through Croatia or Bulgaria!
Anyway, I believe that this cross-country trip by JJ deserves the same attention as Ari’s “free” trip to Israel!
Day 2 – JJ in Amarillo Texas showing off his red T-shirt to a Texan bull!

by AMIR1973 on Sun Jul 03, 2011 07:15 PM PDTI will choose to take that as a compliment towards Iranians rather than as an insult. It's the sort of optimism that I have learned while living in the US :-)

that's a real talent....
Not long ago...
by AMIR1973 on Sun Jul 03, 2011 06:48 PM PDTA Black man could be elected President of the U.S. But perhaps our resident Stalinist prefers the likes of Lenin, Brezhnev, Ceausescu, Enver Hoxha, Erich Honecker, the Castro Bros (Fidel and His heir to the throne, Raul), the Kim Dynasty (grandpa, His son, and grandson), etc, etc....
