I'm so thrilled I don't know what to say!
I received confirmation today that one of my favorite musicians of all time, the great Faramarz Aslani, has agreed to be our main guest at the iranian.com fundraising event on April 25 in San Francisco's Palace of Fine Arts.
Can you believe it? I can't!
The first time I heard Aslani's wonderful ballads was a decade and half after he became a phenomenon in Iran. When he came out with songs like "Ageh Yeh Rooz", "Yaaram Koo", "Del Aseereh" and... I was in high school in the U.S. and out of touch with Iranian music.
It was only when I moved to the San Francisco Bay Area that I noticed what I had missed. I would go to parties at the home of my Iranian friends and at some point people would start singing his ballads word for word by heart. Just a few months ago my good friend Shahrokh had his little music festival in Seattle and guess whose music was the most popular? Aslani! It just goes to show you the timeless quality of his large body of work.
And now he's going to perform for iranian.com?! You have no idea how I feel inside... I'm all mushy and teary-eyed.
There's more!
The wonderful and super talented composer/pianist Sahba Aminikia has graciously agreed to be the opening act of the evening. Have you heard his amazing "Pro Patria" based on "Ey Iran!" by Ruhollah Khaleqi? This man has a great future ahead of him.
So come on down on April 25 and enjoy a magnificent and memorable show. You will be greatly entertained and giving support to your favorite website. We will soon have ads and links where you can purchase your tickets.
But I'm not done! We have another wonderful surprise in store for you. I just can't talk about it right now. Stay tuned :o)

by Ali P. on Thu Mar 05, 2009 08:50 PM PSTI don't know why you'd call my comment "snarky" comment.
I did not put any "LOL" or ":-)" anywhere, hinting it to be a joke, so as far as any reader is concerned, this should be taken as an honest, serious comment.
When it comes to arts and music, we all do not need to have the same taste, do we?
Mr. Aslani and Mr. Shamaaeezadeh are both Iranian artists. Now some of us like one- considering him a greater performer- and some of us do the other. I am going to respect all those whose favorite artist is different than mine; I just hope they do likewise, with me.
Live, and let live (as Shamaaeezadeh, I think, in one of his songs sang).
My apologies, if my comment offended you for any reason.
Respectfully Yours,
Ali P.

by Jahanshah Javid on Thu Mar 05, 2009 07:18 PM PSTAnonymous Observer, if we do a show in DC, I'll give you 2 front row tickets on the house. Bandeh mokhless shomaam!

by Anonymous Observer on Thu Mar 05, 2009 07:17 PM PSTThanks for clarification....forget about the email that I sent you earlier asking for a loan then...:-).
Seriously, you should have a fundraising party on the East Coast, too. If you do, I promise I'll attend. I just can't afford (time and money-wise) to fly to the West Coast for this one. An event on the East Coast may not be a bad idea. I'm sure that you have many readers around here who will be glad to help out.
Expedia, here I come!
by News Goffer on Thu Mar 05, 2009 07:14 PM PSTCount me in! Searching fares as I type...
I'm coming for Iranian.com and any of the leftover dough. Faramarz Aslani and Sahba Aminikia are the icing on the "dough cake" (which is you, JJ!). Save me a piece, I'm on my way!
Dough boy
by Jahanshah Javid on Thu Mar 05, 2009 07:04 PM PSTAnonymous Observer, yes I am rolling in dough. Actual dough.
Just for fun, count the number of ads in iranian.com. How many are there? Seven? Ten? How much do you think people pay for these ads? There's a button below this page that says "Advertise With Us". Do the math.
Between me and you, I earn $4,000 per month.
You Need Fundraising?
by Anonymous Observer on Thu Mar 05, 2009 06:45 PM PSTwith all these ads on the site, I thought you'd be rolling in dough......
Aslani is a great artist though...

by Souri on Thu Mar 05, 2009 06:42 PM PSTPlease don't take it bad, that was only a joke. Ali agha was teasing JJ. In fact I am old enough to remember Mr Aslani and I love those songs, Age ye rouzi noome to and also Divaar....I must add that my husband is a fan of Mr Aslaani, without my help. My husband doesn't understand Persian, but some 20 years ago, he had heard Mr Alani's music during an Iranian party and he instantly became a fan and he run to buy Mr Aslani's CD.....
I'm very sorry that you (and maybe other friends) took it this way and if I offended you, please accept my apologies.
Sincere apologies to Mr Aslani too....although I like Mr Shamaee-zadeh and esteem him as a very great artist/composer/singer. Both, are the very grand artists of our country that I am very proud of.

Ali P. You Can't compare Aslani to Shamaeezadeh...
by bahmani on Thu Mar 05, 2009 06:19 PM PSTBased on your pic, and obvious youth, I'll have to call you out on your rather insensitive comment comparing Shamaeezadeh to Aslani. Your "Margeh Man" comment is also Loos and obviously sarcastic. Do some "Homework" and "Learn" the difference between S and A, then come back and see if you would still make your snarky comments. Or at least read the positive feedback before opining on something you clearly don't get. Here's the deal. You can make a snarky comment if the subject deserves it. If it is something that is obviously near and dear to many, you ought to consider that before being sarcastic. It's called manners. Check it out. Margeh Man.
Aslani is a true original
by eroonman on Thu Mar 05, 2009 05:22 PM PSTI can't wait to see him perfomr. His songs are modern and timeless.
Excellent
by Zahra m (not verified) on Thu Mar 05, 2009 05:06 PM PSTVery exciting news Jahanshah. I love F.Aslani and can't wait to see him at your event.
Lucky you...
by ThePope on Thu Mar 05, 2009 05:03 PM PSTDamn! :o)
I've been to 'loads' of concerts, but I've never seen a Persian
band (singer!) live, but if there's one Persian artist I would love to see perform live is Faramarz.
He's music is to die for!
Aslani rules!
by AnonymousX (not verified) on Thu Mar 05, 2009 04:57 PM PSTUndoubtedly, Aslani will be remembered as one of the legends of the Iranian music. His talent, warm voice, his ways with words and his mesmerizing performance is truley unique and rare.
50 years from now, future generations won't be remembering most of today's untalented singers and their work, but they would still whisper Aslani's ahooye vahshi or agar beris safar.
I listened to his last album, and it is as timeless and his first one. I played it in my car, and one day I noticed that I have been listening to the same CD over and over again, for months! Strongly recommended.
JJ, you have every right to be exited for this. It looks like you have a good appreciation for good art.
I'll defintiely try to put aside some time and come over to the Bay Area in April for this event.
Thanks for putting this together.
Says who?!
by Party Girl on Thu Mar 05, 2009 03:56 PM PSTI love embedding videos! I hope JJ doesn't get mad at me, but I couldn't resist this! Here's something I found last year on Faramarz Aslani's concert with Babak Amini. If you want to see the other part go here.

by Javad Yassari on Thu Mar 05, 2009 03:45 PM PSTAn excellent choice, Mr. Javid! Now I might just show up!
I know you don't like embedded videos (wink, wink) but I thought this Bebin TV interview with Mr. Aslani which Parham posted last July was pretty good!

I love Aslani!
by IRANdokht on Thu Mar 05, 2009 03:39 PM PSTNow I know I am going to be there!
Thanks JJ, I am trying to get some of my friends the info about this event so we can all hop in a car and drive up.
Aslani would actually be a great selling point for me :0)
IRANdokht
A very good start!
by Nazy Kaviani on Thu Mar 05, 2009 03:34 PM PSTWhat great choices and how fabulous that both artists will come!
I remember last year when you posted a Darvish Joe clip in which he was performing an original Aslani song, Faramarz Aslani showed up on the thread to talk about his music and to compliment Darvish Joe's performance. He is a timeless, ageless, and charming musician whose music has run through thousands of my memories. I love this man's velveteen voice and music. I can't wait to see him in April.
I would also like to congratulate you on engaging Sahba Aminikia for the event. What a treat, and how I look forward to seeing this talented composer on stage!
Good job so far! Now just get yourself over here ASAP!
