Our tech guru Foaad has created a special page for online polls. He has twice reminded me to use it for selecting the Iranian of the year for 2008. So before it gets too late, I want to share some names with you.
I think the 2008 Iranian of the year should include the following. Note that these are SIGNIFICANT Iranians, NOT necessarily the BEST. I'm sure I've missed some important names, so help me out:
-- Shirin Ebadi
-- Students who've demanded freedom and democracy in public rallies at numerous universities.
-- The One Million Signatures Campaign (women's rights activists in Iran)
-- Marjane Satrapi
-- Mohsen Namjoo
-- Hossein Derakhshan
-- Six detained leaders of the Bahai faith.
-- Mahmoud Ahmadinejad
Who did I miss? Let me know and I will set up the poll. HERE IT IS.

Dear JJ
by Tara on Mon Jan 19, 2009 08:37 PM PSTI second your nomination of Dr. Shirin Ebadi, who has done so much for Iranian women and children during the past 30 years.
I would like to request that you not consider Nazanin Afshin Jam for this honor, as she did not take a stand on the issue of loss of human life, particularly that of children and babies murdered in Gaza.
Furthermore, several of SCE's supposed supporters on this site have obviously taken stands in support of Israel's actions, creating serious doubt in my mind about Ms. Afshin Jam's interest in human rights worldwide. If SCE is keeping silent on this human travesty in favor of politics and loyalty to Israel, I doubt its leader would make a good Iranian of the year on humanitarian grounds. Thank you.

by Parthian on Mon Jan 19, 2009 08:37 PM PSTPlease don't waste your energy, and intellect on degenerate Iranians like Jahel (anti-iranian), and false seekers. You see how jahel is ready to take up the arab cause, but puts down Koroush as an imitator, as if every culture in the world is completely original. Jahel's arab(ommatist) culture is the ultimate copy cat of all time with little originality contributed or added. These are the degenerate iranians who have lost their identity, and are ruining the country. It is ok, sooner or later, their agenda will leave no country left, and than they have to run to some western country, and kiss some western ass, as so many of them have done so far.

by samsam1111 on Mon Jan 19, 2009 07:28 PM PSTWell , 1st off , it was our Median cousins who sided with Babylonians with tiny elements of Persians . And yes offcourse Assyria & Babylonia had much to offer as did China , Aryan occupied India , Egypt and so on . And offcourse the world,s & ME first true Indo-European empire the Medeo-Persians preserved & copied from the ways of the talented Babs & ashures as they did from Egypt , Greece , Sardicia & even their wild cousins the Scytians but unlike my buddies the looting burning khallifs & crazy Huns & Magyars of the east , they had a 2 milenium preserved culture of migration, settlement & Aryeh vajoe lineage behind them and Avestan doctorine for spirituality . Yes we conquered, we copied , we learned, we taught , we won and we lost & yes we killed too but beyond all this we had a unique message for the world not outdone by any other empire and that messgae was the legacy of our psyche & exceptional breed that left it,s mark on almost every corner of Europe, Africa & Asia & the many nations that even in todays europe & Asia seek their lineage with glory to that all encompassing name Oyr, Aryanum, Ayr & Iran . btw I,ve seen quite a bit of it in Louvre. and migrating , caucuses Aryan hitties & Mittani tribes effects on Babylonian greatness is way underestimated . btw * I,m not a academic historian . I,m just a part time lunetic bugging Ommaties ::))
Cheers!!!

by Souri on Mon Jan 19, 2009 06:25 PM PSTNow that I see some irrelevant posts here, may I say two things not related to the subject (too) ??
1) I love the Stuff music of yesterday and Sat. That Googoosh song is one of my favorite, but no where I find a place to thank you for that, then I thank you so much now !
2) Is there any rules as to not posting irrelevent comments ? I mean, what if the same someone does post what we say "n'importe quoi" (means nothing related) to the subject of the conversation and this, too many times ? Doesn't matter ? Should I say, this bugs me a lot ?

Samsam, you were in my mind!
by Jaleho on Mon Jan 19, 2009 05:42 PM PSTSamsam, Museum of Fine Arts in Boston is holding a monumental exhibition on Assyria. I have seen a good chunk of impressive collection of Assyrian cuniforms and monuments, in particular from Khorsabad, in the Louvre and British Museum before. But, for some reason, this collection was amazingly thorough, although it was mostly brought from the British Museum. I guess the complete collecions are not always put for view there.
Anyway, there was this HUGE relief of the war describing how Assyrians where killing and humiliating Babylonians and Elamites. Cutting the head of Teumman (I guess) and forcing Babylonians to make a fine powder out of the bones of all of their ancestors because they took side with the Persians! The tactic was to make the Persian never forget the humiliation! As this relief was one of the most beautifully depicted piece of ancient art, there were many people around it. I said to myself, "where is Samsam when you need him to defend ancient Persia from these hooligans?!"
Seriously, I was thinking that it is good that Samsam is not watching all the glory, science, the arts, and bravery of these people from whom his Cyrus copied so much, or else he'd get a heart attack :-)
GREAT EXHIBITION for anyone in the area!

Brave women
