I'm not very coordinated so unfortunately I didn't learn much from my first salsa lesson last week for my birthday. But I did have a lot of fun at La Santanera in the heart of Chihuahua here in northern Mexico with my sister and our friends >>> photos

Just a communication.
by comments on Thu Mar 17, 2011 01:44 PM PDTI just wanted to let you know that your comment about human rights really made me think. It made me think if it is a better approach to concentrate on human rights than a streighforward politics. I was questioning myself why I try to read news in politics rather than human rights, which is one of my interests.
p.s. I can't believe that you don't know how to dance salsa. Is it too hard that all south amaricans do that?
thanks Faramarz for your answer
by Anahid Hojjati on Fri Mar 11, 2011 12:07 PM PSTnow, I know some Spanish :).
JJ, Jota Jota, Jim Jim!
by Faramarz on Fri Mar 11, 2011 10:55 AM PSTJota (pronounced Khota in Spanish) is how you say J in Spanish. It is like Jim in Farsi.
So JJ is Jota Jota.
I like the sound of that Gigo!

Hidden talents
by Jahanshah Javid on Fri Mar 11, 2011 08:43 AM PSTThanks Shahireh... my hidden talents will only surface with the reappearance of Agha Emam Zaman :)))

Anahid, not only I can't dance, I can't speak Spanish either. Everyone understands English here!

Esfand jaan, excellent question about the silent J
by Anahid Hojjati on Fri Mar 11, 2011 08:27 AM PSTI had the same quetion. Since some people pronounce my last name with silent J but they never get KH sound out of it, so I was wondering how JJ became Khota khota too.
By the way, it is great that JJ even trie to do Salsa. Spanish music is so pleasing to ear. A coworker of mine; originally from Mexico, burned me a CD of spanish music years ago. Not knowing the words, I assume it is romantic songs. For all I know, it could be all about how mean women are :) and many are just music with no lyrics but it is beautiful music. I wish I knew Spanish so I could write poetry in Spanish. I am sure then some people would complain that in three languages, my poetry is not good. Just like another Iranian woman whom a friend of mine admired since she wrote poetry in multiple languages but in couple of them ; English and Persian that I know, it sucked to Canada as you say. so if I know Spanish, mine can be like that too.
How about Juan Valjean?!
by Esfand Aashena on Fri Mar 11, 2011 07:54 AM PSTAs in Jean Valjean! A literature icon!
Everything is sacred
I’m Don Julio, but Call me Gigo!
by Faramarz on Fri Mar 11, 2011 05:39 AM PSTJJ,
Gigo (Spanish for Gigolo) is the perfect name for you.
Don Julio projects power and authority, if that's your angle. Although I like Don Juan and Jesus too!
U cant go through a bottle of Tequila & not do something stupid!
by Esfand Aashena on Fri Mar 11, 2011 05:09 AM PSTJJJ don't be modest! Tell us something stupid you did after having that full bottle of Tequila with the beer chasers! Except of course if you were not the one having most of that bottle!
BTW isn't J silent in Spanish? Like hesus is Jesus or huanita for Juanita?! So wouldn't JJ be hey hey?! What's khota khota? Is that Jewish Spanish?!
Everything is sacred
So GROSS and cheesy
by ComraidsConcubine on Fri Mar 11, 2011 02:32 AM PSTDancing on your grave might be fun though. Are you getting cremated?
Because that would sort of stall the dancing bit on a grave, which might be a good idea; I hate Salsa.
Yet I'm sure you dance better than me ;-)
by Souri on Fri Mar 11, 2011 12:47 AM PSTI'm member at a Salsa club since two years and half.........I just went there twice !
And never practiced since then. Maybe it's time to re-start those lesson again. Next time we meet, we can dance together....something like a Persian-Salsa ?!!!
Juan Jesu?
by Monda on Thu Mar 10, 2011 11:32 PM PSTthis is not bad: //www.youtube.com/watch?v=ykoT2IoETIY
in the same series, you'll pick up easy turns too. incorporating the rhythm will follow after having the steps down. Have fun with it. If it's not fun, always blame it on the teacher. Get your money back from that tall one with the vest... akheh who dresses like that for salsa?! let the other teacher know that she can only hold your hands if she wears a nice skirt with a moderate (not too distracting) tank top and definitely high heels.
I'm suggesting Jesus...
by bahmani on Thu Mar 10, 2011 11:03 PM PSTFor obvious reasons.
Mainly you need another name that begins with J, to make it jJj.
Or you could go with JaJuanshah.
But if you went with Jesus, then when you come here to visit, we could get 11 friends and all go out with you, and when our table was ready and the Maitre'D called us to seat us, he would call out,
"Jesus, Party of 12?"
Juan?
by Monda on Thu Mar 10, 2011 10:26 PM PSTLearning salsa for the first time in a club full of people, being distracted by all the pretty girls, and on a tequila buzz?! What were you expecting?! : )
Try learning it in front of a mirror. You and your teacher/partner side by side, then following her steps would be sooo much easier. You'll see. After a few times, then you would start hearing the music which would help you with keeping the beat and adding your own attitude and mood to the whole thing. It's so much fun... Please don't quit and report back. Shazdeh is right, you do look good.
khota khota
by Jahanshah Javid on Thu Mar 10, 2011 08:45 PM PSTFarmarz, great tips! I need a new name too. JJ does not fly here. It's Khota Khota and I don't like the sound of it :D

And isn't it ironic that when they become ruthless that is when you want to tie them to the chair... and grrrrrr .....serve them wine!
Looking good!
by Shazde Asdola Mirza on Thu Mar 10, 2011 08:27 PM PSTIt is good to see you having lost weight and being active JJ.
All the best!
Bad Stories for Bad Kids
JJ, JJ, JJ!
by Faramarz on Thu Mar 10, 2011 08:09 PM PSTJJ,
Ok, so here is how it goes!
You take a couple of shots of Tequila and then you ask the best looking girl in the club to dance with you (not he one in the picture!)
You try to look serious like you know what you are doing and once in a while you tell her how to do the Salsa! If she looks confused, just tell her that you learned to dance Salsa in Dominican Republic, or Madrid!
She'll be impressed!
Women are the biggest suckers when they like you and they are ruthless when they don't! After dancing with the best looking girl in the club, you can pick anybody else for the next dance!
