Dear friends,
Thank you for your patience, sense of humor, understanding, tolerance, maturity and fairness. You heard me. I believe you deserve all those attributes, in different quantities.
Compared to when we first started, the tone of the comments has improved a lot. I think we're beginning to understand that telling our critics to shut up and hurling abuse at them will not make them shut up and they'll curse right back at you. So I see big improvement in discussions even though we still have a few years to go :)
In the past six months I did block two dozen people or more. Probably more if you include commercial spammers. Most others were blocked for a few days, few weeks and unblocked. It's the least pleasant part of my work. I hate interfering and playing the role of school master. Every time I block someone or delete an offensive comment I do think about the site's motto "nothing is sacred" and I wonder. Was I right? Was I wrong? I never feel completely justified in whatever action I decide take, and it wears you down.
If I judged your comments to harshly and deleted too many of them, I hope you don't take it to heart. If you got booted out of the site for too long, bebakhsheed. You're always welcome here.

My outlook on Iran is positive. The road ahead is long and treacherous, but democracy as an idea has taken root and growing fast. It's an idea whose time has come. Political Islam on the other hand has lost its intellectual vigor and ideological dynamism. It's become the protector of a dictatorship of a few in the name of god. The Green Movement is the future.
***
It's the Year of the Tiger, my Chinese sign. Soon I'm going to London for a few months with the option to travel all over Europe. So many places I want to see... Italy (especially Verona), Greece (never visited, dying to go), Prague (old wish), Amsterdam (makes me smile)...

kahr-e-magas "jaan"
by Onlyiran on Thu Mar 25, 2010 08:13 AM PDTunfortunately I do not have the money to buy the site. I donated all my money to Reza Pahalavi, who apparently used it to buy himself a brand new S-300 Mercedes. :-)))
Love you still, though. Stick around my friend. The more the merrier. :-)))
Staying with the topic! (to Onlyi****l)
by marhoum Kharmagas on Thu Mar 25, 2010 06:50 AM PDTOnly "jaan" (NOTE it is "jaan" not jaan), although I Have no respect for you or your ideas, for the sake of staying with the topic and resolving the deadlock I have another suggestion: you and your Shahi buddies buy the site from JJ for $50 million. That way you guys can get rid of creatures like me, additionally I think it is a good deal, despite all my disagreements with the man, I must admit he has created a web site with very nice GUI (Graphical User Interface). Let me know when you have the account setup for this, I'll send you a check for a $.01 (my Esfahani contribution)...... get to work start a blog for this cause!
engaging in debate, was it?!
by Fouzul Bashi on Wed Mar 24, 2010 08:40 AM PDTIt seems you have not understood that for many who mention other countries such as Palestine and Israel and the US, it is because they understand the strategic links, and which is the country that is sacrificing millions, including Iranians, to its hegemonic and racist ambitions. "Only Iran" therefore is a sign of ignorance. Off you go and good luck with your petty witchy protectors ;)
As for civility, you have latched on to MKM and myself with no civility at all.
So now we're picking on usernames
by Onlyiran on Wed Mar 24, 2010 08:04 AM PDTWhat kind of an absurd logic is that? Is it out of desperation to personally attack me that you came up with this gem of thought? So, by your literal interpretation of usernames, I guess you go around and "Fozuli" all the time? My username is in response to those who look out of interests of other nations as opposed to Iran. Mocking my username just shows how petty and silly you are that instead of engaging in a debate you resort to mockery, insults and personal attacks.
PS/ this will be my last comment to you. You're not worth a debate.
Only 'Iran' ;)
by Fouzul Bashi on Tue Mar 23, 2010 12:05 PM PDTThis is not rudeness :) This is my objective opinion. You are not 'only Iran'! You are for taking up vendettas against individuals, this has nothing to do with Iran!!! Particularly for someone who makes the totally absurd claim that they are ONLY Iran!! Does that by any chance exclude humanity or any other interests and concerns and thoughts ? :0)
speaking of rudeness Fozul Bashi
by Onlyiran on Tue Mar 23, 2010 12:00 PM PDTcan you explain why the Iran in my username is placed in quotations with a smiley face next to it? Where have I ever said anything that is against my homeland? Where have I ever advocated war or sanctions, or have defended anyone who has done so? Does disagreeing with you and your ilk automatically classify one as being an "Israeli" agent? Does being a vehement opponent of the IRI make one non-Iranian? The IRI is one of the most anti-Iranian regime in the history of our country.
The bigger question is why do you have to lower a debate to that level at every chance you get? The behavior of your type is what causes hostility on this site, with your endless, silly and desperate name calling. If anything, I think that JJ should not allow this sort of behavior of this site. No other site does. I can say a million things about how the likes of you are the worst thing that has happened to Iran for centuries, but I'm not going to stoop to your level, which is what you want.
Souri, is absolutely right. You are so transparent that you make people want to vomit.
Only 'Iran' ;)
by Fouzul Bashi on Tue Mar 23, 2010 11:51 AM PDTYou seem not to get the point. Many people, at various times, have been blocked and they have mostly come back and continued their contributions. This is what JJ WANTS. What he objects to is not individuals, per say, but an attitude of intolerance and rudeness. He puts up with a lot of that too, as the comment below amply demonstrates ;) perhaps to show the variety of characters and manners in our diverse community, and also to add an educational dimension to the website :) They say
;) ادب از که آموختی از بی ادبان
عید شما مبارک .... ;)
Dear Onlyiran
by Souri on Tue Mar 23, 2010 09:34 AM PDTGive it up, please.
You are wasting your time with this bankrupt group which has no more any place here and are trying hard to keep their miserable existence by K.... mali for JJ. They will do anything from licking JJ's shoes to do anything that it takes for getting a little room here just to be able to mess up with the site, insulting and accusing and ridiculing others.
Let them go please. They are so transparent that it make me vomit.
Don't give them more room, this is all they want.
Pretty clever Fozul Bashi
by Onlyiran on Tue Mar 23, 2010 09:23 AM PDTI know that I said that I won't comment anymore on the subject, but I think that your lawyering on behalf of Kharmagas and your clever effort to turn the issue around and make it about JJ deserves a response.
This is not about JJ. And no, hosts don't have to be "dumb" to keep an abuser from entering their party. They can be tolerant, or better yet, believe in second chances, which what I believe JJ is doing here. The question is how the "invitee" would react in response to the host's generosity and tolerance. Is he going to reflect on the reasons why he was kicked out and better him/herself, or is he / he going to engage in the type of grandstanding that I pointed out here.
Nice try, though. Better luck next time!
Well, some hosts may be so dumb!
by Fouzul Bashi on Tue Mar 23, 2010 09:13 AM PDTOnly Iran - Some hosts, according to your logic, may be so dumb and helplessly masochistic, to let someone who has 'spoilt their party' and that they have 'kicked out', to sneak back in to continue spoiling and they feel incapable to do anything about it!!! JJ is a very capable, fair and experienced journalist who has not shown any indication that he is suffering the above maladies :)
Thank you JJ Jan and Nouroozet Pirouz va safaret khosh Aziz-e Baraadar ;)

by Souri on Tue Mar 23, 2010 08:55 AM PDTFrom the bottom of my heart I congratulate you for having done what it takes, to improve the climate and the concept of this site. It is really amazing how far the comment's pages have gone in the way of logic and civility.
Thank you!
Truly yours:
The leftover Toudehy Stalinist
Kharmagas
by Onlyiran on Tue Mar 23, 2010 08:10 AM PDTI'll give you an example and will leave it at that. Let's say that you're a guest at a party, and the host kicks you out of the house for bothering other guests, or for general bad behavior. And let's say that you then force your way back in, and the host, this time around, tolerates your presence and doesn't kick you out again. Now, it will take a HUGE set of brass ones for you to then stand in the middle of the room and declare to everyone that "if the host really doesn't want me, I will leave the party." Well, aziz jaan, he already told you that he doesn't want you at the party!!! The least that you can do to respect him, and other guests (us, the other readers) is to, this time around, behave and not bother others (i.e., no name calling of anyone who disagrees with you). Grandstanding is a slap in everyone's face, including the host.
This will be my last comment on the subject. I have better things to do with my life. Good luck.

by Cost-of-Progress on Tue Mar 23, 2010 08:01 AM PDTpost their crap? Islamic Supremacy.com?.......... PAAHLEEZ....
All you defenders of the arab faith should thank your rapist higher ups that you're able to post your anti Iranian rantings (disguised as Iran-loving intellectual brian excrements) here freely....as in Freedom of friggin' Speech!
You make no bones about supporting an islamist agenda claiming Iran is now stronger than ever - BULLSHIT! If your definition of strong is 31 years of inflation, misery, opression, repression, assbackwardness and sharia law, then you're more delusional than ever. In fact that makes you phonier than a $3 bill.
For the record, I only care about the demise of Islam in Iran, do not give a rats ass about Israel and believe that Iranians will finally wake up from this nightmarish hell called Islamic regime....and when they do, you jokers will be out of a job!...

I look forward to your next blog...take care!

by marhoum Kharmagas on Tue Mar 23, 2010 07:13 AM PDTOnly "jaan", since you are kind of slow, let me elaborate, my offer of leaving has been there for a long time, "grandstanding" has nothing to do with it, my "important contributions" has nothing to do with it, as I rarely write a comment more then a few lines and even then most of it is lichaar ghouee(*)! ...... anyway, JJ is hayyo haazer (soromoro zendeh) here, convince him to tell me 'marhoum get out of my site!', and I will get out of his site, and his site. I will not come back mordeh or zendeh.
Q- It's not about re-registering, it's about grandstanding
by Onlyiran on Tue Mar 23, 2010 06:10 AM PDTyou missed the point of my comment (again). The issue is not him re-registering. It's about Kharmagas's grandstanding. "I'll leave if JJ tells me to leave", as if JJ hadn't done so before. Anyone who brags about himself as if he is some important contributer deserve to be reminded of reality. I hope I clarified it for you. You can thank me later.
And as far as your accusations of multiple ID's, you accuses everyone of having multiple ID's. So, I'm not even going to dignify it with a response. Suffice it to say that I don't need multiple ID's. One is enough, trust me. The name calling on thi site has become unbearable to the point that I hardly even comment and post things these days.
Haha JJ, now you are having second thoughts?
by Anahid Hojjati on Mon Mar 22, 2010 11:38 PM PDTI think we all have to realize that as the editor, JJ might have information that we don't have so in his decisions, he considers those information. As far as Faramarz' suggestions to limit the number of comments on a blog to three, this may prevent excessive comments by people like Persian ding dong but it will also prevent some worthy contributions. I have written blogs that on the comment thread, some people made more than three comments and the fourth or fifth comment was the most valuable. Granted that was when the number of comments was more than 60 so 4/5 by one person was not that bad. LikeJJ suggested, we don't have to read everything by everyone. It is true about blogs and it is true about comments. After I read first 3/4 comments by Persian Ding Dong, Now when I come to this thread, I ignore his/her comments and instead focus on people whom I find worthy of my time to read their comments.
JJ, what about Farhad chaakhaan?
by marhoum Kharmagas on Mon Mar 22, 2010 10:24 PM PDTJJ, are you going to unblock him one of these days? I find his case the most puzzling one, majority of my Abaadaani friends are fascinated with chaakhaan ghoftan!

by Niloufar Parsi on Mon Mar 22, 2010 09:30 PM PDTthank you for this great website and all the wonderful work you do for this community. it is a shame that some have been blocked, but luckily most tend to return anyhow.
it would be a shame if this site became the exclusive domain of a chosen few. what makes this place special is its diversity, and the manner in which we engage in debate reflects our own level of tolerance and political maturity.
wishing you and all other IC contributors a wonderful New Year.

by marhoum Kharmagas on Mon Mar 22, 2010 09:10 PM PDTI don't understand why this guy assumes that I should give him the same level of respect that I give JJ. In fact I have no respect for him/her or his/her ideas. I made JJ the same offer several months ago, and am making the same offer to him now because despite my disagreements with him, I respect him for keeping this site a fairly free (albeit biased) site despite all the manipulations (mainly by the Monarchists).

heh! nice try
by Q on Mon Mar 22, 2010 07:47 PM PDTOnlyiran, actually, DK was also blocked, as were many other people. So I assume you are asking DK to leave this site too?
Of course not! It's called hypocrisy. You can thank me later for pointing this out for you.
On top of DK's departure, had Javid truly implemented a policy of no sock-puppets (multiple accounts), which I'm betting you are a beneficiary of, you and all your buddies would have been long gone ages ago.
So just because MK s honest enough to use his previous name in his current one (unlike everybody else who does this), doesn't mean you have any moral authority whatsoever to demand anything.
Jahanshah Javid: It's your site and you can have whatever policy you wish, but I just wanted to point out that you are wrong that "every other website" does this policy. In fact, many political forums have a no sock-puppet policy (I can send you the pages). Having a rational discussion and gauging the stance of the community depends on this principle. Anybody caught having two accounts is instantly banned. It can be done and it has been done.
These fights have to stop. They're pointless.
by I Have a Crush on Alex Trebek on Mon Mar 22, 2010 07:25 PM PDTI love these fights, but they're sad. Project this anger on other things - the things that are causing the fights. Darius and David are duking it out too.

by marhoum Kharmagas on Mon Mar 22, 2010 07:35 PM PDTAs I said I could care less about your opinion in this matter, or any other matter, for that matter! My original comment was specifically addressed to Ayhab and indirectly to JJ. BTW, OnlyIsrael is addressed to OnlyIsrael. As JJ said if you don't like my comments ignore them, specially when they are not addressed to you directly or indirectly.
JJ - I hope you are reading this
by Onlyiran on Mon Mar 22, 2010 07:25 PM PDTAt least I assume that you are, since this is your blog. See, the type of name calling and accusatory language that is displayed by this "kharmagas" character is precisely what discourages people from commenting on this site. I respond to what is an obvious attempt at fake grandstanding, and he calls me an "Israeli" in response. And if you haven't noticed, this is his M.O. I have yet to see him engage in a debate with ANY user on this site (and I mean a debate--an argument about differences in opinion and not a gap feast someone who agrees with him) without calling the person an Israeli. Users like this lower the quality of debate on the site and discourage serious users from commenting on threads. I think that if you want to elevate the nature of debates on the site, you need to get rid of them--which you had rightfully done before with this particular repeat offender.
I think your username is an insult to both khars and magas
by Onlyiran on Mon Mar 22, 2010 07:18 PM PDTSo, you're delusional too? The guy BLOCKED you for God's sake. What else does he have to do to tell you he doesn't want you on his site?!!! Por-roii ham haddi dareh!!!
And what's with the name calling, AGAIN?!!!!! So, your standard for being an Israeli is anyone who doesn't like you?!!!!
