Khomeini was sitting under that Tree, When Ian Dury sang...

As Khomeini arrived in Paris in Autumn of 1978, sitting under that Tree in Paris, with all the world's press..

It was September 1978; time to go back to College. This time, my parents did not go back to Iran after the summer. One evening on BBC1 News, after seeing Khomeini sitting under a tree in Paris, we watched Top of the Pops.

Ian Dury was Number 1 in the  English Charts, singing "What a Waste".

At one point He said: " i could be a catalyst that sparks the revolution...."

Thanks Nilufar..

Bitter Sweet memories, as TV images showed Mobs in the streets and Tehran Burning; every other day the news of arrests s and executions..

But we were kids, and could hardly fathom the deep worry and look in our parents eyes..as they watched the old man pretend to be some kind of a Returning Messiah..

Still the college and student union concerts were necessary distractions;

I had the extended 12" LP that was worn out at College buddy Zussman's parties.

but then we had other reasons to be cheerful :)

One can see the Looming 80's in sound and style ...

At the time I was in Iran and my Father and Brother would break my ears listening to the BBC to understand what was going on ...

Well Now I know where the Beard Style of the Revolutionaries was inspired from. Too bad they didn't also copy the music and booz too ! ;0)

Interesting memories ... Thanks for sharing !
