Chaee Shirin--The Good Old Things

Chaee Shirin--The Good Old Things

This one is going to be a short one, not like Twitter short, but still short—Short and Sweet.

I haven’t been writing much lately because I thought I had to find something new and exotic to write about each time in my blog. But nothing too exotic was coming about. Until this morning when, after a very long time, I had a regular black tea sweetened with sugar for breakfast—Chaee Shirin as it is called in Persian. And then it hit me that sometimes, perhaps more often than we think, we find joy and comfort in the old and the familiar. Perhaps it is the triggering of a lost memory that brings back the comfort. For example for me having ‘Sweetened Tea’ brings back childhood memories from Iran when my mom would make me Asrooneh or ‘an afternoon snack’ after I would wake up from a nap. I would drink my tea and eat a piece of Sokhari Naan— a kind of sweet biscuit/cookie topped with pure delicious butter, while I watched cartoons starting at 5p.m.—a series of dubbed Japanese cartoons which were shown in Iran in the 80’s. (Thank you Japan for contributing to my happy childhood by the way!)

Perhaps the joy in the old memory makes my Sweet Tea even sweeter.

Today’s Healthy Living Tip: Every once in a while, try something old, something familiar, something that brings back a smile from a distant past. The Good Old Things bring sanity and comfort into our lives.

And for all my fellow Iranian friends who grew up watching those lovely dubbed Japanese cartoons in the 80’s in Iran, here is something memorable:
