WHY HAMED NEEDS OUR HELP NOW:

Hamed Rouhinejad's case is one of the saddest I have read since post-election Iran. He is a poor student who suffers from multiple sclerosis. Hamed's only crime was illegally exiting his country, Iran, hoping to reach Europe or the USA for a better life. Instead, he got stuck in Iraq, and due to his medical condition, he felt no other choice but to return back. He turned himself in and the Intelligence agents told him he was cleared and that he could return to his studies in university. This was a lie. Hamed Rouinejad was arrested in May 2009, before the Iranian Presidential election results were announced. It was not known then that Hamed was being used as a pawn in the newly twisted and grossly inhumane political games launched by the Iranian regime against the Iranian people and the world.

But after the election and the subsequent uprising of the Iranian people. the regime made their first public move against Hamed and all humans. They used him as part of their mock show trials set up and aired on state television in summer 2009. Hamed confessed to charges that he never committed. He was told that if he made the false confessions, he would not be condemned to death.  Even though Hamed particpated, he was sentenced to death anyway. After much torture and anguish, the sentence was reduced to ten years in the Appeals Court. Hamed's main charge is membership in a Monarchist group. Hamed Rouhinejad, since the false confession, and after realizing the lies of the regime, began to speak out truthfully about his case. He has repeatedly denied membership or affiliation with any political group. Hamed was just a student looking for a better life.

According to the laws in Iran, a person who cannot survive a penalty must be freed; this applies to Hamed Rouhinejad. In a letter he wrote in October 2009 from Evin prison, Hamed stated, "The only thing that prevented the spread of my MS was reading the Qur’an and the *Nahjolbalaghe and praying to God."

Instead of investigating the corruption in the case for this poor young man, the Iranian regime added further torture by sending him to prison exile, far away from his family, so he may be more alone than he was before...so he may suffer more. Juristic points of view indicate that the exile penalty, even according to Iranian law, is entirely illegal and punished the families of prisoners.

Hamed Rouhinejad is slowly dying in prison. He is almost completely blind in one eye and he experiences paralysis in his body. Despite all this, for some reason the world is still silent on his condition. Hamed needs our help so much, but instead, the international world has ignored him. Amnesty International has yet to show support, the UN has stayed silent (as usual), and MS organizations have not answered the pleas by some activists to support Hamed Rouhinejad.

*Nahjolbalaghe - A book of wisdom and advice written by Ali, the fourth Khalifa to succeed Prophet Muhammad. Ali is also the first Imam, the successor to Prophet Muhammad, according to Shiite Islam. He is regarded very highly by his followers.
