A few days ago, Roya Irani, an editor for Persian2English, came up with the idea to launch an emergency hunger strike for political prisoners on hunger strike in Iran and also the Iranians on hunger strike in Greece.
At first I was hesitant to promote the hunger strike, thinking that many people would not participate. To my surprise, in two days, over 200 people joined the FB event. And so today it begins, the first day of hunger strike. It also continues tomorrow (my picture and support is seen in this blog).
The times to be on hunger strike are: 10:00am-7:00pm
The Iranians in prison and in Greece launched hunger strikes because no one is caring for their human rights. These Iranians are abused, tortured, and neglected. When they go on hunger strike, we need to support them or their efforts will not reach a wide enough audience...Our hunger strike is only for 9 hours a day. Their hunger strike goes on and does not end until they are either near death or reach some compromise on their demands.
Show your solidarity, they need you more than you know. Take a picture of yourself holding a sign that states you are on hunger strike, or, if you don't feel comfortable showing your face, just hold onto a sign and give the V sign. You can also create a banner on the computer; announce your hunger strike any way you think will work.
Then post your pic on the FB events page for the hunger strike: //www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=168113686539470

Courageous of you, BUT...
by Aryana-Vaeja on Sun Oct 24, 2010 03:58 AM PDTA woman as beautiful as you should not have to emaciate themselves or deprive themselves of sustenance for any reason and for any person, human rights or no human rights. Hunger strikes don't make any sense to me because they hurt the striker than accomplish the purpose the strike is being held. I support the principle behind it, don't get me wrong, but surely if one is not in a state of forced deprivation one should not have to go to such extremes.
Anyway, that said, I for one am rooting for your cause!

by Simorgh5555 on Sun Oct 24, 2010 01:34 AM PDTVery noble of you. Very courageous of you, Maryam jan. However, inflicting harm on yourself is not moral nor will it achieve recognition of the suffering of the politcal refugees in Greece.
As we say in Farsi, "Bayad Yek Fekre Asas Bokonim".
I am afraid the only way the suffering will come to an end is to tackle the root problem which is the Islamic Republic itself. By 'tackling' my point is clear and I will say it again:
Please support military action.
Thank you for your courageous Stance Maryam Jaan
