As a fellow Iranian.com user, I like you all (well, most of you) and am constantly informed and entertained by your diverse contributions to the site’s content and dialogue through the comments section. Much of what I learn on the site happens in the comments section where different and opposing or supporting thoughts are expressed by so many intelligent and articulate users.
I am a little annoyed this morning, so I'm writing to share something with you. I would like to ask some of you to take it easy with video uploads in the comments section. When scrolling through to read comments, it becomes really annoying to have to jump over “video comments” which take up five times the space of ordinary comments (that’s if there’s just one video posted!), skipping the video clips which sit in the middle of a discussion thread. Couldn’t you just kindly leave the YouTube link and allow interested users to click on it, as opposed to uploading it?
I also believe that with a few exceptions, nothing takes the place of thoughtful words typed in the comments field. It is a lot more helpful to me as a reader to see what someone is really thinking and saying, even in a short sentence, than to have to click on his/her uploaded video in order to deduce and surmise his/her meaning and contribution to the discussion. Imagine my disappointment when I have clicked on the video link and have watched it for 2-5 minutes, sadly not really catching the meaning of the contributor.
Please help keep the site clean and dialogues focused and meaningful. Please blog about video clips as much as you want, but leave them out of the comments section to the extent possible. Thank you.

by News Goffer on Wed Sep 17, 2008 11:35 PM PDTI would not readily admit having listened to that program on Iranian radio, because it would give away my specs and I'm trying hard to hang with the younger crowd over here.
Did you know that the program was actually an American radio program on CBS, translated into Farsi? His famous line in English was: "Yours Truly, Johnny Dollar!" Read about it here:
//en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yours_Truly,_Johnny_Dollar
And here, our own Parviz Forghani, in his weblog NeghNeghoo, talks about those memories.

And here, Abbas Maroofi talks about that program on Radio Zamaneh:

Dear Ebi:
by News Goffer on Wed Sep 17, 2008 05:17 PM PDTThank you very much for your nice comment. No, I wasn't talking about your nostalgic blog which was all about music! I was talking about when in a blog, a serious dialogue is in progress and everyone is writing their opinions and all of a sudden someone posts one, two, or three videos in lieu of a comment, distracting those who are following the discussion both visually and mentally.
Thank you so much for giving me a chance to clarify, bro.

by ebi amirhosseini on Wed Sep 17, 2008 04:32 PM PDTRoger ! message received, loud & clear!!.If you by any chance are referring to the blog celeberating Irandokht's Bday, that one to me was an exception, since all of us wanted to tell her how we feel & sometimes a song is worth of million words!.But,if you are making a point in general,I'll welcome it as a very constructive comment & in future try to be more careful.

since you said please :0)
by IRANdokht on Wed Sep 17, 2008 02:24 PM PDTI always enjoy your comments that are well written and very proper. I wish more people would try to treat others in such civilized and classy manner.
Sometimes it makes sense to have the clip available instead of the link, making it easier for viewing, but using multiple clips just to interrupt the flow of the comments especially if it's not informative or even related and mostly applied as a deterrence from the subject, can get very annoying.
I also hope that everyone takes this as a constructive criticism, I know I will be more careful now that I have seen how distracting those clips can get.
Thank you NG!

I agree
by American Wife on Wed Sep 17, 2008 02:05 PM PDTand thank you for your reasonable request. I've imported videos myself but have always done it via a link. Giving, as you say, the viewer the option to open or not. It can be very distracting trying to navigate through so many videos.
I hope viewers take this as the constructive criticism it's meant to be. :-)
