Have Iranians reached the critical mass in their collective wisdom, courage, and maturity to once and for all reconcile their differences with the West in order to become a partner of the world communities and a respectable member on the international stage?
32 years ago yesterday on 4 Nov 1979, fifty two (52) Americans were taken hostage in the US embassy in Tehran where they stayed captive for 444 days. This was the beginning of hell for Iranians in Iran and in America as well.
This illegal and barbaric act was one of the major root causes (along with Khomeini's desire to export his revolution) for the Iraq invasion of Iran and IRR's grip to power, its terrorism around the world and the rest is history...!
What have Iranian communities in America and around the world done to internalize and assess the adverse effects of this monumentally stupid and shameful act both in Iran and abroad, estimate its consequences, and try reconcile with themselves, and more importantly with the victims and their respective country, America!?
Shouldn't Iranians send an apology* to Americans?
And shouldn't they ask to be forgiven by Americans?
* Didn't Madlen Albright Sec of State of Clinton apologize for 1953?

Dear Rea: This might sound like, "Post hoc ergo propter hoc!"
by Oon Yaroo on Sat Nov 05, 2011 05:17 PM PDTLatin for "Since that event followed this one, that event must have been caused by this one."
1) See section 4.1 in link below:
//en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iran_hostage_crisis#I...
2) Circa 83/84 right in one of the ABC's Night Line program hosted by Ted Koppel both the Iraqi and IRI UN ambassador's (Said Rajaie-Khorasani & Kizam Hamdoon)were going at each other. The next guest, a US State Department rep stated something to this effect and I am paraphrasing it, " ...one day those in IRR who took American hostages will review the roster list of their compatriots who were killed in Iran-Iraq war and they will ask themselves, if [It] was worth it...!" [It] was referred to taking over the US embassy in Tehran!
Here is my reasoning:
US was frustrated with the Khomeini's regime regarding the prolongation of the American hostages in Iran coupled with the emboldening of the Islamists in exporting their revolution to the neighboring countries was the most likely root causes for the Sad'dam's invasion of Iran.
Now, am I going to claim that this is based on declassified information and an absolute truth!? No!
I am sure one day hopefully before we are all gone we will find out the real reason(s) behind the Iran-Iraq war!
good grief, (an oxymoron)

One or two informative links will do, thx. If not, one informed opinion.
Agreed with your blog 99.99%, with one minor change:
by Roozbeh_Gilani on Sat Nov 05, 2011 04:16 PM PDTAll references to "Iran" and "Iranians" in your blog should be changed to "Islamist Regime" and "Mother F***ing Islamist regime leadership and their mozdoors" respectively..
These SOBS owe not only Americans, but the entire humanity a lot more than a simple apology.........

by Veiled Prophet of Khorasan on Sat Nov 05, 2011 04:07 PM PDTThe American president secretary of state Madeleine Albright apologized to Iranians. Why: for the 1953 coup which she had no hand in. Sometimes it makes sense to apologize even when it is not directly our fault.
It is more an expression of regret than "apology".
As for AO I accept your reasoning.
A collective apology
by Veiled Prophet of Khorasan on Sat Nov 05, 2011 03:39 PM PDTThe taking of American hostages was a criminal act. The act was illegal; stupid and a violation of international norms. This heralded the beginning of a disastrous period in Iranian American relations.
It was condoned by the supreme leader Ayatollah Khomeini. The Iranian people did nothing to prevent or stop it. The results of it have soured relations between the two nations since that time.
I do not speak for all Iranian people just myself. In that capacity I express my profound regrets and a heart felt apology to all American people. In particular to the hostages and their families. I would like to assure them that not all people of Iran or Iranian origin approved that. The post revolution government does not speak for many of us including me. Many of us were shocked and dismayed by it. Maybe in time both nations will come to terms. America is now home to many people of Iranian origin. We love America for giving us a home and hope to see peace between both nations. One day it will be all over and we will look back glad that is it history. Meanwhile my best wishes to all American people and thank you for offering so many of us a home.
We will never apologize to anybody!
by Anonymous Observer on Sat Nov 05, 2011 03:42 PM PDTdon't you know it? We have Hafez and Rumi and thousands of years of history. What do these rednecks have, pickups and chewing tobacco? Come on, I mean,VE are suprior--definitely.
Ve are Iranians. Ve are never wrong. The Americans deserved to be taken hostage. It Vas their own fault. Remember Vat dey did in 1953 veet the coup? They deserved it. In fact, every American deserves to be punished for it. But not us Iranians. We had nothing to do veet anything. Not responsible for anything at all. Ve did not demonstrate by the millions to bring Khomeini to power. And even now, Vee don't travel to Iran every summer and help sustain the IR by bringing hard foreign currency to Iroon. Vee just go there for the one meter long kabab.
Vee apolgize? NEVER. Sorry, I have to go ride my B M V to the Shab-shaer session where we recite Hafez. We are so superior, it's not even funny.
Khodafez!
It was IR and not "Iranians" that took over the embassy,
by Hooshang Tarreh-Gol on Sat Nov 05, 2011 03:26 PM PDTany apologies, and IR should apologize for all its crimes and stupidities towards American and Iranian people, is the responsibility of the state, mullahs not us.
Iranian people as a whole were as much victims of that stupidity as anyones else.
Feelings of guilt and blaming an entire nation for works of a few (comparatively spaeking) is not necessarily the path to maturity.
