by Parham on Sun Sep 25, 2011 04:35 PM PDTI think I see what you're getting at. I guess you are right to a very substantial degree. But then the dynamics of development haven't been the same in our music industry compared to the western one. You won't exactly see "bands" in France or Japan either (except fr a few exceptions), and they do have a pop music industry.
Parham Jan,
by aynak on Sun Sep 25, 2011 03:09 PM PDTSorry I missed that (did not look close enough) for Daniel Merriweather. :)
As for the bands, I did say a few exception, Aryan would be one, I can't imagine Kiosk without Arash, but at least (I think this one is due to Arash's own modesty) he is going with the band, where as he is the band. There are a few in the traditional music scene as well. But let's not kid ourselvs, if you have to look so hard to come up with exceptions, that's what it means. Concept of band is actually a very interesting one. It is really a group activity, and the interaction usually helps the sum of individual members to be greater thnn each, creatively and otherwise. Since the creativity part is not really part of our music cultur, you see the limited role for the band.
Dear aynak
by Parham on Sun Sep 25, 2011 01:18 PM PDTOkay, the voice you hear after one minute is that of Daniel Merriweather produced by none other than Mark Ronson, Amy Winehouse's producer. But then I did have that down on the set list, I'm surprised you didn't see it.
As for bands, then I presume Kiosk wouldn't exactly be a band to you as they have rotating members during tours? So 127 would be though, wouldn't it? How about Dang Show, would you consider them a band?

by aynak on Sun Sep 25, 2011 12:12 PM PDTFirs batch of vocals start at minute 1:00 and I could not figure out who that was.
As far as Iranian bands, I just said, may be with one or two exceptions, I don't really know of any Iranian bands. If you know tell me. A band, in my view is a group that shares in producing all the followings, for given period of time.
-writing lyrics
-writing music
-performing
So by this definition, for instance if a group recites Hafez poetry, because they have not really created their own lyrics, that would not be a band. Same, when a collection of people are only aware of singing aspect, but individual members do not play instrument, but more importantly don't help in any way with creating the score, then that is also not a band. Effectively, if a group has a rotating set of muscians that go unnoticed on tour and can be replaced by locals, regardless of if it is lead in the music group or not then that would also not be a band. Perhaps this is somewhat arbitrary on my side, but that's how I define it/view it.

by Parham on Sun Sep 25, 2011 05:21 AM PDTWhat do you mean, the first portion? Actually, the name of the acts are all there, if you look.
So there are are no real bands? Please explain!
Re: Oh wow
by aynak on Sat Sep 24, 2011 11:20 PM PDTSo who is singing the first portion? you did not answer that Parham? We should make a band or something. BTW, ever wondered why there are no real Iranian bands?
Oh wow
