MARZIEH, iconic Persian singer passes away in Paris due to cancer... she was 85.
Marzieh who was one of most famous singers in pre-revolutionary Persia, in 1990s moved to France and joined one of most controversial Iran's opposition groups in Paris (MKO). She was banned from singing after 1979 Islamic Revolution because of being woman.
Most famous songs of Marzieh were composed before 1979 Revolutoin but they are still popular among Persians; among them are "Barg-e Khazan" (music: Parviz Yahaghi, Lyrics: Bijan Taraghi) and "Sang-e Khara" (music: Ali Tajvidi, lyrics: Moeini Kermanshahi).
Many of these songs in recent years arranged for large orchestre which were performed in a more emotional and epical style. It was a reflection of Marzieh's new political activities. Marzieh's concert at Royal Albert Hall in 1993 has been released on VHS.

CoP , she really wasn't into thier (MKO's) politics,
by Hoshang Targol on Wed Oct 13, 2010 07:58 AM PDTit was more a matter of the material support she needed with her health and finances, than anything else.
A true golden voice. May her soul rest in peace.

by Pejman7 on Wed Oct 13, 2010 07:55 AM PDTDear Hooshang, Raftamo Bare Safar Bastam is a song of Hayedeh, not Marzieh. Hayedeh passed away in 1990! LOL :)
COP Jaan - Mark's entire existence is an oxymoronic tragedy
by Anonymous Observer on Wed Oct 13, 2010 07:48 AM PDTHe claims to be Iranian, but he's not. On the other hand, the only land he really belongs to, the U.S., has rejected him. Otherwise, why would a person who knows nothing about a country or its culture, and cannot read or write its language, troll the community's cyber sites looking for a home?
Haji Firooz, as usual, you're a thorough "A type, A-Hole,"
by Hoshang Targol on Wed Oct 13, 2010 07:47 AM PDTdon't you know at least one of her song, with all your "Persian" credentials.
How forget full of me, you wouldn't understand a word of it even if it was playing right in front of you. Can you?
Marzieh has begun her transition to the other side, her voice and memories of all the great songs she has sung will always be with us.
Raftaom o bar safar bastam, ba to hastam har koja masatm,

But then again, look at the Islamic Regime apologists here, what's their excuse, being dumb?
