Gaza Attack News and Open Thread
by Q
01-Jun-2010

Since the usual mob of so-called Persian "patriots" is clearly uncomfortable talking about Israeli war crimes (or anything other than their own agenda), I propose we have an open thread where the latest from the Gaza crisis can be discussed.

First, let me say, that those people who constantly moan about "I don't care about X, this is IRANIAN.COM, not X.COM", are clearly wrong. Many of them are disingenuous. This has been proven several times. Most recently it was proven again when I put up news stories of Iranians getting killed in Iraq, and the inhuman and hostile reaction some of these "patriots" exhibited was telling.

A smaller group is clearly just protecting Israel against criticism. We have all met these people, some of them right-of-center thinkers who admire Israel's modernity, power and authority and don't care about much else. Some of them are Iranian Jews who have found a sense of pride and belonging in the dominant Israeli narrative in the West, and this is their way of protecting that feeling. Some are brought up to equate Islam with Arabs and evil and since Israel is "against" Arabs, they think Israel must be a friend, so they are just protecting friends from "enemies" by trying to silence criticism of Israel.

One way this hypocrisy becomes obvious is with their own conduct. They claim they support freedom of speech and also that we should not waste energy on Palestine when there are human rights violations in Iran. Both are valid points of view. But why would a person who has these views waste time actually criticizing others who do write about Palestine? Does that sound like someone who wants to just concern themselves with Iranian human rights? Why would someone like that care, for example, that Iran has requested Intropol investigations of Israeli officials?

Not everyone is a hypocrite of course, far from it, even here. Some people genuinely just think the Palestinian issue has nothing to do with us, and they do not want to lose focus on Iran. While I can respect their honesty, I think they are misguided. The world is incredibly interconnected. Crisis in the Middle East as well as anything having to do with Israel, Turkey, US is very relevant to Iran, relevant to the future of our country, and to the future of the people in it, including those who are seeking democratic changes.

However, I didn't really mean to get off on a rant here. I did not make this blog to talk about why the Gaza massacre is relevant to us, I will write an article about that part soon. Here, I just want to give a central location to those who do care about what is going on to comment, share links and ideas. I humbly ask those who do not care to stay out of this as to not cause themselves any unnecessary headaches.

The Picture is of the Nobel Elders Group, founded by Nelson Mandela and comprised of Nobel Peace prize winners who are active in human rights issues. It just released the statement on the Gaza crisis, which in part reads:

“The Elders have condemned the reported killing by Israeli forces of more than a dozen people who were attempting to deliver relief supplies to the Gaza Strip by sea,” the 12—member group said in a statement issued in Johannesburg, where it met over the weekend.

The group, which was launched by Mr. Mandela on his birthday in 2007 to try to solve some of the world’s most intractable conflicts, called for a “full investigation” of the incident and urged the UN Security Council “to debate the situation with a view to mandating action to end the closure of the Gaza Strip.” “This tragic incident should draw the world’s attention to the terrible suffering of Gaza’s 1.5 million people, half of whom are children under the age of 18,” the group said.

This comes in the wake of the UN Security Council action after a 12 hour emergency meeting. It was predictably watered down by Israel's main supporter, the United States. But it was passed anyway. See: UN Security Council Condemns Israel for Violence in Gaza Raid, Seeks Probe.

Lastly, I want to leave you with this short interview by Dr. Norman Finkelstein, himself an American Jew and son of two holocaust survivors who has dedicated his life to battling the inhuman Israeli policies and their corrupt cheerleaders in American media and society. Here he talks about why Israeli is officially a "Lunatic State":

So please share your feelings and links.

One of the nine people killed in the Israeli raid

by Mola Nasredeen on

was an American man, 19 years old. One department official identified the victim as Furkan Dogan. The other American victim was shot in the eye while demonstrating in the West Bank against the Israeli soldiers her name is Emily and she is from New York. This is how the criminal regime of Israel is killing the Americans while the Zionist controlled media and congress stays quite about it. The racist regime of Israel kills American citizens while receiving more than 3 billion dollars a year from us and they expect us to say nothing.

There are more injured Americans whose name will be available soon.

Thank you NP jan,

by Bavafa on

This is a great news and I sincerely hope they make it there safely and successfully. The pressure on the Apartheid regime needs to be kept on and I have no doubt in my mind as this criminal regime in Israel will fall just like the criminal regime in Tehran will fall. The hope and wish is that the sooner the betterr and without any more casualty and loss of innocent lives.

Irani Irani

Favorite distraction of IRI groupies: Falasteen, ya Falasteen!

by Irani Irani on

Falasteen, ya Falasteen! The comment thread by IRI groupies is identical to the scroll that runs at the bottom of Press TV and other IRI official propaganda outlets. Where are the tears for the Muslims killed by other Muslims in Sudan, Pakistan, and Iraq--not to mention Iranians killed by the Rapist Regime? "Free" Palestine would like just like "free" Algeria, Syria, Sudan, and Egypt--i.e. another Arab hellhole that the IRI groupies on this website would flee in a second for the evil, decadent West. I care as much for Palestine as I do for Darfur, Chechnya, etc, etc. I am still looking for the tears spilt by Palestinians and other Arabs on behalf of the hundreds of thousands of Iranians killed by Saddam and Khomeini. Where are those tears hiding?

more ships heading for gaza

by Niloufar Parsi on

"Two more aid ships are reportedly heading for the Gaza coast in the coming days. The MV Rachel Corrie, an Irish-flagged cargo ship (until recently of Cambodian registry), was last spotted off the coast of Malta on May 31 and is reportedly expected to reach Gazan waters by June 4-5. Another ship, reportedly carrying three dozen passengers, is also
supposed to be on its way to the Gaza coast."

Hope Allah starts listening to Imam Khoemini for His own Good

by i_support_khamenie on

I strongly suggest that Allah starts listening to Imam Khomeini and let the Persian/Shiite Safavis take over the Middle East soon, otherwise we will be looking for a different God!

SO far Allah has had a spotty record as far as reliabilty is concerned. Its a bit worrisome.

We hope Allah can focus more on making it easy for Safavis to take control of Middle East instead of talking about the details of taking multiple wifes and having Houris in Heavan!

Please Allah get serious soon, just like Imam Khoemini was. Not everything is about sex, drinking milk and eating honey by the river

"The human right issue in Iran is not their scope of discussion but derailing any conversation against Israel is their purpose...

That is just dishonest.

The pressure group has achieved at least theoratically their goal but the actual results will remain to be seen as there are many silent and independent readers who have witnessed this."

You are making excuses to save face in front of IC audience. . All the points raised on this thread are relevent, and if they are not to your liking because they reflect hypocrisy then tough.

PS. Israeli government actions are ugly and the world knows that, Thank you... but Islamic Republic's aka S.R.O.I actions and crimes against humanity and un-armed, peaceful Iranian people is far far worse and criminal... As an Iranian, I have a very simple question for all of you:

Have we truly fixed anything about our own problems and have we already liberated ourselves from all the crimes and injustices that have been inflicted upon us by IRI so far that now we find it absolutely necessary to have to concentrate on other nations and countries problems???  For God sake, LAST TIME I CHECKED, I WAS AN IRANIAN AND APPARENTLY YOU ARE CLAIMING THE SAME HERE!!!! (IS THAT TRUE OR NOT?) HERE ON "iranian.com" !!! Note: Not Palestinian.com, Not Israeli.com, not any other nation's.com ... This is iranian.com !!! Get real and be honest with yourselves at least!!! You might think, you can fool the world, but the real danger is when you fool yourself and worse, you later believe it!!!!

Disenchanted

Why Israel?!

by Disenchanted on

We got bunch of folks here making noise as such:

"Why don't we ever hear about China violating rights of Tibetans? Or Turkey violating Kurdish rights; Iran and Bahai's or even Russia and Chechens.  Noop just silence."

First of all as many have mentioned before me this thread is about recent atrocities by Israel if you have other issues start your own thread. It's like going to a conference about CANCER and bitching why there is no talk of AIDS?!

Second, I admit that there is more sensitivity about Israel than other criminal regimes. There is a simple explanation for that in case you missed it. Just read the news of this recent crime by Tel Aviv. How many nationalities have been killed, beaten, abused, prisoned and robbed by Israel?! Let me save you the trouble. It's 30 countries: Ireland, Turkish, US, Australia, Sweden, England....

Israel is an "equal opportunity" killer machine! Is that so hard to fathom?! IT IS NOT if you don't have an ulterior motives.

and more: I believe and many share that with me. If/when the problem of Israel is solved in the region, democratic movements can evolve much faster. If you deny the adverse effects of Israel bullying and threats on Iran's civil rights movement you are just ignorant or biased.

There can be no valid claims of self-defense on the part of Israeli commandos who attacked a ship of protesters in international waters, killing nine civilians and kidnapping more than 600 others -- including 15 international reporters who were prevented from filing their stories by a nation that claims to be the beacon of democracy in the Mideast. hooshie, that's just sad!

by Q on

Yes, my friend, you totally misunderstand the English.

"Does that sound like someone who wants to just concern themselves with Iranian human rights?"

So you are not just concerend with Iranian human rights? Really?

First of all, yes, I'm not concerned with just Iranian human rights. But this also affects Iranian human rights, and the distinction is increasingly a moot one anyway in today's world. Second, the sentence you quoted wasn't about me. I criticized those so-called "patriots" who claim to be only concerned about Iran, but get upset when Israeli leaders are pursued by Intropol. Why bother with that, if you keep saying "Only Iran"? It was not about me which is a basic failure of understanding the language, exactly as I said. I pray to the almighty Allah you at least understood this explanation!

I do care about the Bahai plight and do not approve of HR violations against Bahais or anyone else. I have basically said that I support bahai rights and even their right to openly preach in Iran or other Muslim countries. The evidence is available. I have signed plenty of petitions too. Now, do I need to prove this to you? Who are you again? What is your name and your history? Why should anybody care what you think? No I don't, neither does Mammad or anybody else who is questioned by any fascist minded coward and self-appointed IRI "agent-hunter". The only reason I am responding now is because I see an opportunity to set an example for others who may be subject of online character assassins popping up with fake names and selective STASI interrogations at politically opportune times.

I may however do it voluntarily in the future, if you make a bigger fool of yourself, so keep that in mind!

Obviously, you and some others (like Kadivar) are not interested in this subject and furthermore show your absolute hypocrisy by wasting time on this blog attacking people who do care, spamming it with Monarchist BS or writing childish counter-blogs when you could be doing real work for whatever it is you supposedly do "care" about.

We can easily conclude that childish games are more important to this group than "Iranian" human rights, hence the hypocrisy.

Now, if you don't mind, there is more work to be done on this issue.

If I may

Can I suggest to those who still care to talk and share about the topic of this blog keep their response limited to the topic and let those who just can not stay away and have to have an opinion, have it. It seems there is no way you or I or any one else can make this point clear enough for them that if you are not interested in this subject move on. If you think I am obsess with Israel, you made your point ignore me and move on. If you think I am IRI supporter, well petition JJ to ban me . If you are Israeli supporter, have guts and make your position clear.

Anyway, to those who are still interested to talk about the topic, lets not feed the frenzy here and fan their flames. Ignore them and they will move on.

But you and your friends are trying to stop us from expressing our outrage. People like you are enabling criminal regimes such as Israel.

We are not trying to stop discussion of Israel. By God there has been no shortage of it. However there are those who seem to be *only* interested in one thing: Israel. No other issue gets them as excited or angry. No matter what happens to Iran they are fine.

However one says "Israel" and they jump up and down with endless postings.

Why don't we ever hear about China violating rights of Tibetans? Or Turkey violating Kurdish rights; Iran and Bahai's or even Russia and Chechens.  Noop just silence.

Will you tell me why? Please.

"Stop trying to intimidate through name calling and accusations."

Quiet the contrary, the pattern that we see here on IC in general and this thread in specific shows that there are always a certain group of people can not tolerate any thing to be said against Israel. The human right issue in Iran is not their scope of discussion but derailing any conversation against Israel is their purpose. The very reason of my claim lies on this very thread that the author, knowing the named trend, very politely asked those groups to let the ones who are concerned about this specific topic to discuss their point of views. As you might be able to see, the pressure group has achieved at least theoratically their goal but the actual results will remain to be seen as there are many silent and independent readers who have witnessed this.

It's not just about Palestine, it's also about Israel

by Mola Nasredeen on

It's about a racist regime that starts wars in the Middle East, bombs and maims the natives, takes their lands, infuences the Western powers to start new wars, destroys the environment, uses enriched uranium in his bombs to make it more deadly, who is threatening Iran and Iranians with war and bombardment, who kidnaps and assassinates others, who receives 3 billion dollars (my tax dollars included) to make new enemie for me.

Are you telling me you are blind and don't see these atrocities committed by a regime that is declared racist by the United Nations?

Or you know all these but defend it anyway by trying to shut up the voices who are exposing this evil entity. You are the enabler of Israel and Zionists. That's who you are. You are resposible in Israelis crimes and you know it.
