A trailer for the famous documentary by Khosrow Sinai "The Lost Requiem", telling the story of the Polish wartime exodus from the Soviet labour camps of Siberia to Iran. For many of the arriving refugees, Iran seemed like "paradise".

want to show this film

by aleksmonk on

hello Ryszard.  a group of people in polish community where i live (seattle)  would like to see 'the lost requiem', but we wouldn't want to break any rules...  do you know who has the rights to this film, or contact to Mr. Sinai, so i could ask him for permission to show it?  thank you very much.

Tehran Children

by Ryszard Antolak on

You are probably referring to the "Tehran Children", a group of about 1000 orphaned Jewish children among the Polish refugees. This group returned to Israel in 1943.

The total number of Polish refugees who were evacuated to Iran in 1942 was between 150,000 - 200,000. The rest, well over a million, were compelled to remain behind in the Soviet Union against their will.

Polish Jews

I vaguely remember of my childhood about Polish Jews coming to Iran, most likely with the same group in the documentary, who then moved to Israel and back to Poland later on. Many of them died from diseases while in Iran. Anybody knows anything about it?

I enjoyed it. I also was very glad to see these polish people thought of Iran & Iranians with warmth.

I just saw this quite by accident. Will you please let me know where I can get a copy? How wonderful that it exists.

Obtaining the DVD

by Ryszard Antolak on

The documentary hasn't been released for a variety of reasons. It has been shown mainly at film festivals over the years. The sound quality has deteriorated a little over time.

Recently. however, it has been circulating privately. If interested, please e-mail me and I'll direct you to where you can obtain a copy.
