Stop Child Executions Campaign was informed today that three more Iranian children are facing imminent executions. The execution verdict of all three were approved by superior court of Islamic regime in Iran and their files were sent to the head of judiciary, Ayatollah Shahrudi for final approval.
AMIR AMROLAHI who is now 18 years old is sentenced to death for the murder of another boy during a fight at the age of 16. Other two boys RAHIM AHMADI and MOHAMMADREZA HADDADI are also sentenced to death for other alleged crimes at the age of 16. (More details and urgent action reports to follow.)
Iran has broken the world records in 2007 with at least 297 recorded executions comparing to 177 in 2006. One man was stonned to death in Iran in 2007. Nobel peace prize winner Shirin Ebadi's human rights group on Wednesday protesting against the amputation of hands and feet of 5 men as a punishment last week, warned: "Unfortunately, the violation of human rights in Iran has not only been expanded in some fields, it has also found new dimensions," Last week two men were also sentenced to death by being dropped from height.
As of January 12, 2008 Stop Child Executions Campaign has recorded 91 children facing executions worldwide: 86 in Iran, 2 in Saudi Arabia, 2 in Sudan and 1 in Yemen.
In 2007 at least 7 were reported to have been executed : 6 in Iran and 1 in Saudi Arabia. Three are known to have been saved from execution: 2 in Iran and 1 in Yemen.

To "sinister"
by molaloghati (not verified) on Sun Jan 13, 2008 12:42 PM PSTThey alraady answered you, both cases a and b are called child executions by article 37. It is not the age of execution , it is when the verdict was "imposed"
Like they said Everyone calls it child executions. It is not only their "terminology". For example here is amnesty international:
//www.amnesty.org.uk/content.asp?CategoryID=2...
child execution
by 2 cents (not verified) on Sun Jan 13, 2008 10:09 AM PSTThe UN defines a "child" as a person under the age of 18. It then follows that "child execution" is the execution of someone under the age of 18. If Iran is executing persons under the age of 18, then "child execution" is the correct term to be used. If Iran is not executing persons under the age of 18 then I have to agree with AAA. It appears from another post that Iran waits until the condemned reaches the age of 18 before execution because legal age for execution is 18. If true, then this campaign is inappropriately termed and it would be naive to think this is an oversight by the campaigners.
Re: SCE response
by AAA (not verified) on Sun Jan 13, 2008 08:55 AM PSTThanks for your reply. I don't doubt that your cause is just but I have an issue with your name. The Articles you site are concise but in no way supports your use of "child execution" in referring to adults being executed for juvenile offenses.
.
Here are two situations. Keep in mind that legal age of execution in Iran is 18.
.
a) A child commits a crime and gets sentenced to death at the age of 16 and is executed at the age of 20.
.
b) A child commits a crime and gets sentenced to death at the age of 16 and is executed at the age of 17.
.
What is happening in Iran is (a) and you call it child execution.
.
What do you call situation (b)?
.
In my opinion, and as language dictates, situation (b) is child execution without a doubt while (a) can not be classified as such. If you call both child execution, then how do you distinguish the two?
.
Secondly, why do you use terms like "ruling Islamic regime" when referring to Iran yet no such descriptors are used in referring to other countries like Saudi Arabia. Why not "despotic regime" in Saudi Arabia or something similar? If your aim is purely humanitarian why do you use such politically loaded terms and so selectively?
.
I would love to sign your petition but I would like to have some convincing answers to the above questions first.
.
Thank you
In response to an email referring to this blog:
by SCE Campaign on Sun Jan 13, 2008 02:24 AM PSTArticle 37(a) of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child states:
"No child shall be subjected to torture or other cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment. Neither capital punishment nor life imprisonment without possibility of release shall be imposed for offences committed by persons below 18 years of age;"
Therefore the United Nations has categorized the rights of those with "offences committed by persons below 18 years of age " under article 37 of the Convention on the Rights of the "Child".
Additionally article 6.5 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights states:
"Sentence of death shall not be imposed for crimes committed by persons below eighteen years of age and shall not be carried out on pregnant women. "
Such terminologies were not created by SCE and are commonly used by UN, EU, other governments, Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch and many others worldwide.
The practice of imposing death sentence before the age of 18 is in violation of international UN conventions, regardless of what age the person gets executed later The rights of that "person" still gets defined as the "Rights of the Child" . Government of Iran is a signatory to these conventions.
SCE campaign consists of volunteers worldwide dedicated to permanently Stop Child Executions in Iran and worldwide.
Everyone who opposes child executions is encouraged to help our humanitarian cause (e.g. by helping write or edit articles). For more information please visit ://www.stopchildexecutions.com/joinus.aspx
Thank you for caring

by AAA (not verified) on Sun Jan 13, 2008 12:57 AM PSTThe sentence you are referring to does not give the age of those executed. The article does however give this sentence which you conveniently ignore.
.
این نوجوانان تا زمانى در زندانهای ایران نگهدارى می شوند که سن هجده سال – سن قانونی اعدام در ایران- را تکمیل کنند و بعد حکم اعدام آنان اجرا شود.
.
So the legal age for execution in Iran is 18. No one under the age of 18 (ie a child) gets executed.
dobareh yekhatdarmiyoon khoondi ?
by molaloghati (not verified) on Sun Jan 13, 2008 12:44 AM PSTAAA it is now clear that you are intentionally trying to smear their campaign with your nonesense
The BBC report link on 3rd paragraph from the bottom says two afghan boys WERE recently executed
به گفته این کمیسیون، تعداد این نوجوانان نوزده نفر است که اخیراً دو تن از آنان در ایران اعدام شده اند و هفده تن دیگر هنوز در بازداشت بسر می برند
Stop taking sentences out of contexts of articles and skipping the rest to deceive readers

More misleading information
by AAA (not verified) on Sat Jan 12, 2008 08:48 PM PSTFrom the article:
.
"2 Afghan Boys executed in Iran (reported by BBC and Afghanistan Independent human rights commission)"
.
Here is that BBC report:
//www.bbc.co.uk/persian/afghanistan/story/200...
.
BBC report does not say that the boy WAS EXECUTED but that only he was sentenced to death.
.
Now what kind of self respecting human rights organization would lie like this if they didn't have a sinister agenda?

by A.nonymous (not verified) on Sat Jan 12, 2008 08:33 PM PSTAAA, your concern is probably justified. I sent an email to the above address with a link to this paqe. Let's see whether the issue emanates from the campaigners' lack of experience or a deliberate exaggeration.

by AAA (not verified) on Sat Jan 12, 2008 08:14 PM PST"AMIR AMROLAHI who is now 18 years old is sentenced to death for the murder of another boy during a fight at the age of 16"
.
You have a point on this one. This is the only sentence that is correct out of the whole article and gives the correct message.
.
"since 1990, the ruling Islamic regime in Iran has executed at least 30 juvenile offenders"
.
Misleading in that it leaves the reader with the impression that juvenile offenders were executed. Where in fact adults were executed for juvenile offenses. Not at all the same thing.
.
"86 youth are now recorded by SCE to be on death row in Iran for alleged crimes before the age of 18."
.
You have a point on this one too but overall correct sentences like these are few and far in between in the article and more importantly their website.
.
Furthermore, when an organization with a precise and noble mission uses terms like "ruling Islamic regime" when referring to Iran but uses no such phrases for Saudi Arabia or Yemen then it starts to smell somewhat fishy.
.
Please tell me if you think "child execution" is an appropriate phrase to describe such a situation. If so, how would you label a situation when someone under the age of 18 is executed?
AAA yekhatdarmiyoon nakhoon. ina ram bekhoon!
by molaloghati (not verified) on Sat Jan 12, 2008 07:43 PM PSTCONTEXT BABA JAN!
"AMIR AMROLAHI who is now 18 years old is sentenced to death for the murder of another boy during a fight at the age of 16."
"since 1990, the ruling Islamic regime in Iran has executed at least 30 juvenile offenders"
"86 youth are now recorded by SCE to be on death row in Iran for alleged crimes before the age of 18."
to: A.nonymous
by AAA (not verified) on Sat Jan 12, 2008 06:43 PM PSTWith all due respect, it is not at all obvious. I would have agreed with you if they also tabulated the age of the person being executed and not just the age at which the crime occurred. They list the age at which the crime was committed but don't mention the age of the person at the time of execution. This omission is very misleading. Couple this with the following sentences in the article:
.
"According to the recent statistics provided by an Iranian police official about 170 children can be facing execution in Iran".
.
"three more Iranian children are facing imminent executions."
.
What impression do you get from the above sentences? Do you not agree that the phrase "child execution" does not apply here? Please be honest with yourself and me. Wouldn't "execution for juvenile offenses" or something similar be more appropriate?
.
I am totally against capital or corporal punishment of any kind. In fact I would normally sign petitions like this. However, in this case I refuse. This systematic abuse of language by this organization is very strange and appears to be more like propaganda.
To: AAA
by A.nonymous (not verified) on Sat Jan 12, 2008 06:10 PM PSTIt is obvious that the campaigners mean the execution of people for childhood alleged crimes. AAA, be sensitive to children of Iran and try to understand the spirit of the article. Ok?
enough of this distortion
by AAA (not verified) on Sat Jan 12, 2008 02:50 PM PST"more Iranian children are facing imminent executions".
.
No they are not. The person being executed is an adult and not a child. Child execution is execution of someone who is less than 18 years old. This is not what is happening here. Adults are being executed for crimes committed when they were children, an entirely different situation which can not be called "child execution."
.
To term this as "child execution" is demagoguery at best and down right lies at worst. Please stop this. You are alienating people who would be otherwise sympathetic to this cause.
